Overview

The Lemosho route is one of the newer routes on Mount kilimanjaro. The route begins in the west and rather than simply intersecting Shira Plateau (like Machame), Lemosho crosses it from Shira Ridge to Shira Camp. Climbers encounter low traffic until the route joins the Machame route. Afterwards, Lemosho follows the same route through Lava Tower, Barranco and Barafu, known as the southern circuit.
The 8 day Lemosho route is highly recommended and used by most prominent Kilimanjaro operators

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

It is more remote and arguably more beautiful, but a bit longer. It starts on the Western side of the mountain at the Londorossi Gate, which is a further drive from town, and was introduced as an alternative to the Shira route.
After beautiful forests and moorlands it crosses the Shira Plateau on day 3 to connect with the Machame Route at Lava Tower and down towards Barranco Valley via the Southern Circuit. You may be lucky enough to see buffalo, elephant and other game. Because this route can be done over a longer period of time for acclimatization, it has a higher success rate of summit.
ITINERARY
Upon arrival to Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met and transferred for overnight accommodation at Kilimanjaro Wonders Hotel 4 starsB&B. Your head guide will meet you for your briefing, gear check and arrange for you to hire any equipment you may need.
DAY 1: LONDROSSI GATE MTI MKUBWA CAMP: 4.8KM /3MI | 3-4 HRS | RAINFOREST
Elevation: 2389m/7838ft to 2785m/9137ft
Altitude gained: 396m
Departing from Moshi a 45-minute drive will take you through welcoming mountainside villages to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. We will patiently wait for our permits to be issued while watching the hustle and bustle of operations as many crews prepare for the journey ahead Enjoy the beautiful rainforest scenery and windy trails while your guide tells you about the local flora and fauna and natural wildlife. At these lower elevations the trail can be muddy and quite slippery. We highly recommend gaiters and trekking poles here.
DAY 2: MTI MKUBWA CAMP SHIRA I CAMP: 7.9KM/5MI | 4-6HRS | MOORLAND
Elevation: 2785m/9137ft to 3504m/11,496ft
Altitude gained: 719m
After a good nights sleep and a hearty breakfast we emerge from the rain forest and continue on an ascending path, we leave the forest behind now, the trail climbs steadily with wide views to reach the rim of the Shira Plateau. Temperatures begin to drop.
DAY 3: SHIRA I CAMP SHIRA HUT : 6.9KM/4.3MI | 5-7HRS | MOORLAND
Elevation: 3504m/11,496ft to 3895m/12,779ft
Altitude gained: 391m
We explore the Shira plateau for a full day. It is a gentle walk east toward Kibos glaciered peak, across the plateau which leads to Shira 2 camp on moorland meadows by a stream. Then we continue to Moir Hut, a little used site on the base of Lent Hills. A variety of walks are available on Lent Hills making this an excellent acclimatization opportunity. Shira is one of the highest plateaus on earth.
DAY 4: SHIRA HUT LAVA TOWER BARRANCO CAMP: 10.1KM/6.3MI | 4-6HRS | SEMI DESER
Elevation: 3895m/12,779ft to 3986m/13,077ft
Altitude gained: 91m
Although you end the day around the same elevation as when you began, this day is very important for acclimatization. From Shira Plateau we continue east up a ridge, passing the junction towards the Kibo peak before we then continue, South East towards the Lava Tower, called the Sharks Tooth (elev. 4650m/15,250ft). Shortly after the tower we come to a second junction, which leads to the Arrow Glacier. We then continue to descend to overnight at Barranco Camp.
DAY 5: BARRANCO CAMP KARANGA CAMP: 5.2KM/3MI | 4-5HRS | ALPINE DESERT
Elevation: 3986m/13,077ft to 4034m/13,235ft
Altitude gained: 48m
After breakfast, we continue on a steep ridge up the adventurous Barranco Wall to the Karanga Valley and the junction, which connects, with the Mweka Trail. This is one of the most impressive days to see the power, agility, and strength of your crew zip over this wall with what appears such ease. Overnight at Karanga Camp.
DAY 6: HIKE KARANGA CAMP BARAFU CAMP: 3.3KM /2 MI | 4-5HRS | ALPINE DESERT
Elevation: 4034m/13,235ft to 4662m/15,295ft
Altitude gained: 628m
We continue up toward Barafu Camp, and once reached you have now completed the South Circuit, which offers a variety of breathtaking views of the summit from many different angles. An early dinner and rest as we prepare for summit night. Overnight at Barafu Camp.
DAY 7: BARAFU CAMP SUMMIT: 4.86KM /3MI UP | 5-7HRS | MWEKA CAMP: 13KM /8MI DOWN | 5-6HRS | GLACIERS, SNOW CAPPED SUMMIT
Elevation: 4662m/15,295ft to 5895m/19,341ft
Altitude gained: 1233m
Descent to 3106m/10,190ft
Altitude lost: 2789m
Excitement is building as morning comes with an early start between midnight and 2 a.m. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek.
We continue our way to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers trying to stay warm and focused of the amazing sense of accomplishment that lies ahead. With a switchback motion in a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. You will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise during your short rest here. Faster hikers may view the sunrise from the summit. From here on your remaining 1 hour ascent to Uhuru Peak, you are likely to encounter snow all the way.
Congratulations, one step at a time you have now reached Uhuru Peak the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the entire continent of Africa!
After photos, celebrations and maybe a few tears of joy we take a few moments to enjoy this incredible accomplishment. We begin our steep descent down to Mweka Camp, stopping at Barafu for lunch and a very brief rest. We strongly recommend gaiters and trekking poles for uncooperative loose gravel and volcano ash terrain. Well-deserved rest awaits you to enjoy your last evening on the mountain. Overnight Mweka Camp.
DAY 8: MWEKA CAMP MWEKA GATE Moshi: 9.1KM/6MI |3-4HRS | RAINFOREST
Elevation: 3106m/10,190ft to 1633m/5358ft
Altitude lost: 1473m
After breakfast and a heartfelt ceremony of appreciation and team bonding with your crew its time to say goodbye. We continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. As the weather is drastically warmer, the terrain is wet, muddy and steep and we highly recommend Gaiters and trekking poles.
From the gate, a vehicle will meet you at Mweka village to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi (about 30 minutes). Enjoy a long over due hot shower, dinner and celebrations!!
Overnight Kilimanjaro Wonders Hotel 4 stars B&B. before being transferred to your journey home, safari or relaxing trip to Zanzibar.

Me, my beloved wife Jessica and our son James decide climb Mt Kilimanjaro via Lemosho route and 4 days safari with Boker Adventures Company this month August and manage to make it to the Uhuru Summit. This has been possible without the best time organized by Boker Adventures Company. The guides were very friendly and cooperative all time since we started climbing. They checked our health every morning and evening before we slept to make sure me and my families are healthy well. They pushed us to the limit and courage us especially on the night before summit. We were almost about to given up at Stella point but Juma, Rashid and Mudi (Guides) inspired us to kept trying. Uhuru peak it’s was the best and beautiful place to be as the zone was covered with ice with amazing view, so we took photos with my family for best memories. The cook was so nice and knows to cook varieties of healthy food and on time, we never climbed empty stomach, he make sure we get warm and fresh food everyday though I was so surprised how faster he is to make food at every point. Thank you for the Abbas the cook. Also porters were really strong and powerful, they were walking very fast as all the time we reached at the camp we found them already there waiting for us with all big duffle bags. They were doing a great job. After descending back we overnight in moshi and next day travel to tarangire national park, Ngorongoro and Serengeti National park. We were so happy to see animals close on their natural nature. We managed to see all big fives and birds. The guide English was brilliant and had a big knowledge about animals and birds. After safari we went straight to the airport with our guide. Thanks you so much Erasto ( tour Guide) On behalf of my family I wish to acknowledge the effort and hospitality Peter the director and your team for endless updates you shared with us from booking our flight, hotels and all tour until the last day. Your hard working team is the result of your success. I will always recommend you as a trusted company for tourism in Tanzania. Thanks Charlse Donald.

My husband and I decided to break the fear and decide to travel to Tanzania during this pandemic period. We booked since last year but our government stopped people from traveling and the lockdown was in all counties. Soon after the government allows people to travel at their own risk we decided to rebook our trip. Boker Adventures were okay with us to reschedule the trip for us. We did mt Kilimanjaro climbing and 3 days safari which was unbelievable. During Trek, everything was super okay from the guides who were taking all precautions against COVID like make sure we have sanitizer every time, wash our hand in every camp. Social distance was not a big deal as we wanted to get close to the crew most of the time and to kill the fear. I was so surprised as when I saw people happy, free-minded about this pandemic up there. The preparation and food were very okay with us and the porters were very helpful. There where very few people than I was expecting, we understand that was due to COVID but hopeful things will be okay soon. After the climb, We slept in Arusha so as we can catch up early in the morning to start our three days safari. The jeep was awesome. In fact, we have never been in a big jeep like the one we use for safari. Same to the trek, in the parks, we visit Ngorongoro and Serengeti people where very few, I guess animals were so relaxing this time as it was not crowded. The guide knowledge about fauna and flora was brilliant hence we were interested much in the fauna and flora found in the park. The animals were close enough and we got good pictures as well. We inspire those who have fear about COVID to kill it and travel, in Tanzania it's different, very different with other countries, well done Mr president for your courage of daring to kill fear among your people. Thanks to all Boker Adventures team who make this possible for us to travel and do a safari and Kilimanjaro climbing. We highly recommend Boker Adventures Company for Tourism in Tanzania

I took the 8-day Lemosho route with Boker Adventures for my climbing, which was a wonderful experience. Crew: I prefer small group, which gives you more flexibility and control. We had three people in the group, so there were two guides, one cook and eleven porters. Our guides, Muhammad and Innocent are very experienced and encouraging. They are knowledgeable and welcome any kind of questions. Before the summit day, they checked all my gears/clothes to make sure I had everything essential for that particular moment, which was quite helpful, so I was not freezing and didn't carry too much. They and other crew members taught us simple Swahili and kept us practicing throughout the climbing, which was fun and somewhat exotic. Food: We were offered three meals in the tent plus tea. The variety of food is average, but they are freshly prepared and HOT. I have seen some other climbers having a sandwich from a lunch box. This for sure can benefit your pocket, however, when you arrive at the camp and stretch your legs, a hot meal is all you need to be prepared for the next 1000m elevation. Climb: Kilimanjaro is not a technical climbing. All you need to do is to follow the instructions from your guides. Drink more, eat more, and walk slowly (pole, pole). We were all in good condition, so our guides pushed us a little by skipping one camp (Shirai I), which proved to be a smart decision. You have no mini sand storm at Shirai II, and more importantly, an unbeatable sunset. We ended up completing the trekking in 7 days instead of the original 8. Owner: Peter (or Boker) is a smart and ambitious business owner. It appears that he is always available because you may receive emails from him 24/7, so don't hesitate to throw him with any questions you may have. My duffel bag (containing all my winter gears) was delayed by the airlines, so before the climbing, Peter and Muhammad took me to local rental and made sure I have everything necessary. And the bag was delivered to me on the mountain by another porter sent by Peter when it finally arrived after three days. Price: there are so many local operators on the market, price ranges from 1100 to over 4000 USD. The cost with Boker is somewhere above the average, but definitely much cheaper than some other larger operators. Given the overall experience, I would say Boker Adventures is very competitive. And, I would suggest taking shorter route, e.g., 5 to 6 days, if you don't need extra time for acclimatization. Spend those extra for some local tours or contribute to safari. One more thing: Boker Adventures will additionally stamp your climbing certificate with their own seal, which makes perfect sense from a business point of view. However, I would prefer stamping on the back instead of the front, which somehow affects the formality of the certificate. Overall: despite of some tiny incidents, it's quite pleasant to climb with Boker Adventures. I would recommend them based on my personal experience.
