Know More about this tour

After pickup from your hotel or the Naples train station, take a 30-minute drive to Pompeii, an ancient Roman city that was entirely destroyed by the sudden eruption of Mt Vesuvius in 79 AD. The largest archaeological site in Europe, today Pompeii is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
When you arrive, your guide will pick up your group’s pre-ordered tickets and lead you on a 2-hour walking tour of the fascinating grounds. Witness the destruction first-hand as you visit Pompeii’s most famous sites, including the Forum, the Thermal Baths, Vetti's House and the Lupanare brothel, giving you a glimpse into daily life during the Pax Romana. Today you can see shapes of objects — even bodies — that were buried beneath the volcanic ash and pumice.
After your tour, enjoy a pizza lunch with your group followed by some free time to browse the shops. Then board the coach and drive 40 minutes to legendary Mt Vesuvius.
Embark on a moderate hike up the volcano with your guide. When you reach the summit at 3,900 feet (1,200 meters), you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the picturesque Bay of Naples from east to west. Peer down into the crater and see plumes of steam issuing from the sleeping, but still active, volcano!
There is a rest point where you can choose to wait for your group if you do not wish to climb all the way to the top, but the hike is worth the effort.
After your Mt Vesuvius hike, relax on the drive back to Naples in the early evening.

  • We only had 3 whole days in naples, so if you only have a short time, this trip will ensure you do not miss the most important and most famous landmark around the naples area. We had a fantastic time and we learnt so much more than we expected. Would recommend to anyone.

  • Friendly tour guides, very knowledgeable. Worth the money.

  • I felt this tour was definitely worth the price. I was picked up and returned to my hotel, the guides and drivers were polite and friendly, and lunch was included decent pizza, not the best in Naples with wine/soda/water.

Our tour guide at Pompeii, Elissa, spoke perfect English and was passionate about the tour. I learned so much in only 2 hours and can't wait to visit again to explore more.

At Mt. Vesuvius, the driver drops you off for you to climb up and back on your own within the specified timeframe. You can stop along the way there are three spots and you climb the path for souvenirs, drinks, etc. It was an amazing experience! I definitely recommend this tour to first-timers, as I was.

  • Pompeii is a big city, didn't have enough time to see much, went to mt Vesuvius but it was closed because of bad weather. The guides were good.

  • Although my husband and I are not fans of 40-people bus tours, this tour was a convenient way to see Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius from Naples in one day. Our tour included entrance costs to Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius some tours do not, a personally-guided tour of Pompeii, a lunch at a restaurant in Pompeii, and then an afternoon trip to climb Mt. Vesuvius. The tour was actually a combination of three tours...everyone started out going to Pompeii in the morning, but the tour split up after we finished visiting Pompeii. Some of us went on to Mt. Vesuvius, some people went to Sorrento, and some people went back to Naples. Some people had lunch included we did, and others did not. Please do NOT bring any backpacks with you go to Pompeii, as no packs were allowed that day at all. Only small purses were allowed. Those people carrying backpacks had to check them in to a baggage-hold area, and this service was very overcrowded and slow. Our tour guide in Pompeii, Gino, was very good, but the audio controllers for the earphones were older, and didn't work the best. My husband and I found it necessary to get as close to the guide as possible to really hear and understand him. Be sure to wear a hat, use sunscreen, and take water with you, as there is little shade in Pompeii. It was very hot when we were there in mid-September.

The lunch at the restaurant was good, and included pizza or pasta, and a soft drink or water. We ordered a glass of wine with lunch, which was extra. Service was s-l-o-w. After the tour, there was very little time at all to pick up souvenirs...you need to be fast. And pay attention to the tour leaders to figure out where you'll end up going when you need to leave Pompeii.

The trip to Mt. Vesuvius was wonderful. We drove from Pompeii, up the mountain, and stopped at a large parking lot. From there, it was a steep climb to the top over a gravelly path. You can rent walking sticks when you start out. We did not, as we're avid hikers. There is a small building part way up, and also one at the top, where you can buy souvenirs...you can even enjoy a glass of red or white wine or take a shot of Limoncello at each of these spots. Bottles of wine made on the slopes of Mt. Vesuvius are also sold. We really enjoyed this tour, but felt a bit rushed at times.

  • I have booked many trips with Viator. this was the worst. it was very disorganized. the guides were just Ok. lunch was very long. we waited over an hour for pizza! If this was our first experience with Viator, we would never return.

  • The tour guide was very nice, however, I could have easily done this tour on my own. I really didn't learn anything from the experience. Some additional history would have been nice. Also, we almost got left behind mid way through the trip during lunch---they were very disorganized with the way they had the group together way too big!!

  • Unfortunately, I was sick that day and did not get to go but my husband did and this was one of his favorite tours.

  • Tour was run efficiently and on time. Tour leader had excellent language skills and made all instructions clear. The tour guide was also excellent with plenty of information and interesting facts to impart. The lunch was adequate and the afternoon tour to Vesuvio a great finish to the day. I would recommend this tour and would certainly use Viator again as a result.

  • This tour is definitely worth booking. Having a guide around Pompeii is great as you get the history of where you are and what the buildings once were. The site is very large and cannot all be visited on one day so if you wish to see the whole thing you will need to have several days in the area. Our guide Maria was very good, made the experience very enjoyable and interesting. She was also good at crowd control, there are certain buildings where you have to queue to get inside, some tourists do not seem to think this includes them if they are not part of an organised tour but Maria ensured we were not pushed out of the way.
The walk up Vesuvius is excellent, not as much of a climb as we thought as the bus does most of the work for yo, however time here is a little limited. At the third and final station there is a little bar where the purchase of the local wine is a must it's only 1.50 euro for a small view with fantastic views.
