Itinerary

This is a typical itinerary for your Murano & Burano Islands Half-Day Guided Tour

Stop At: Isola di Murano, Murano, Veneto

The enchanting islands of Murano and Burano are the perfect change of pace from Venice's crowded streets and waterways. And the perfect way to reach them is by private water taxi. Faster and sturdier than a gondola, nimbler and less crowded than a waterbus, water taxis are the premier way to travel in Venice. Few visitors get to experience them, but yours is included, along with an expert local guide who will explain Venice's history as a titan of trade along the way.

Your first port of call is a specially chosen glassblowing workshop on Murano. In the Middle Ages, only Muranos artisans possessed the secrets of this craft, and sharing them was punishable by execution. You will get to witness modern glassblowers wield those once-secret techniques, shaping delicate and dazzling works of art from molten glass. Then admire the workshops finest work in its gallery, and perhaps take home a piece of your own with a tour discount. Or explore more of Murano, including its peaceful canals and a stunning Byzantine church.

Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes

Stop At: Piazza Baldassarre Galuppi, Burano, Veneto

The locals of nearby Burano still maintain the islands tradition of handmade lace, some of the finest anywhere in the world. Youll get to observe lace being hand-stitched the way it has been for generations.

Then visit the Lace museum to see the islands greatest work, or simply enjoy the photo opportunity provided by the colorful houses, brightly painted so sailors could see home as they returned from the sea. When you cross the lagoon back to Venice, you will have a renewed appreciation of the crafts that put the city on the map so long ago.

Great tour, beautiful islands and glass in Morano. Great guide, Serena very knowledgeable and super friendly Thanks!

The tour guide was fine but the tour was inherently flawed. The boat we took for the tour was extremely cramped and very uncomfortable. The Public Address system on the boat was hard to understand. When we got to Murano the 15 demonstration of glass blowing was good but the second we went into the store we were accosted by an aggressive sales person. At the Burano stop there was so much to see but we only could stay for about an hour before we faced returning on that crammed boat again. My wife and I decided to stay on our own (in Burano) and took public transportation back. (which was far more comfortable)

We had a wonderful time with Francesca B. She was extremely knowledgeable about Venice and was kind.

Wonderful tour! Our tour guide Chiara was knowledgable, funny and enthusiastic. The glass blowing demonstration in Murano was interesting and enlightening while the colorful houses along the canals of Burano were absolutely beautiful. Excellent experience, highly recommended.

This was a very good tour of both islands. The guide, Francesca B, provided a lot of very interesting information and the locations visited were beautiful. Good value considering the cost of vaporetto tickets to try to do it on your own, plus lots of information, questions answered, and you are shown where to go so you know what you are doing. Quite a bit of free time to explore both islands.

Guide was on time, great trip to the islands, enough time to shop. very informative on Murano at the glass works.

Thank you to our guide Lara, for showing us around the islands of Murano and Burano. My husband and I visited Venice on our honeymoon and had a great day doing this tour! Both islands are unique with their murano glass and handmade lace trades, we definitely learned a lot. Lara was awesome, highly recommended!

A private wood speedboat takes you to both islands and a guide tells you many interesting details. Glass blowing on Murano is really interesting but buying anything there is over priced when you can buy it on Burano. Lace making is a homey delight with a demonstration and many sales. Lots of time to shop. Loved this tour. The open boat on the water going full speed ahead might now be the best tour on a rainy cold day.

This half-day tour is very worthwhile....seeing the islands of Murano and Burano is a must during a visit to Venice! Our guide was Cristina and she gave an excellent commentary throughout, even during the sailing time between islands. In addition to information regarding the islands, she also gave a very interesting insight into Venetian life in general and was very willing to suggest reasonably priced places to eat or drink.
Both islands were worth visiting for different reasons....however, the free time element was a bit rushed in both cases after obligatory visits to a glass manufacturer in Murano and a lace maker in Burano. In the latter case, make sure you find the older part of town by the harbour as this is where the most picturesque, colourful houses are......the guide should point out the alley way to use as a matter of course. All in all, an excellent tour which makes you feel that you have seen another side to the hustle and bustle of central Venice.

This tour was excellent but made particularly interesting by the passion and knowledge of our tour guide, Alessandro. Sometimes these types of tours can be a bit 'dry' but Alessandro's passion for Venice and detailed knowledge made the afternoon very engaging. Murano was always going to be a highlight but we found Burano equally as impressive and an unexpected bonus.
