Overview

Explore the Mighty Murray River with a drive out through the Adelaide Hills towards the renown Langhorne Creek wine region with a stop in at the iconic Bleasdale Winery. Next cross by the old style cable ferry at Wellington and discover the old courthouse museum. Then on to Tailem Bend where we will indulge in gourmet produce at the Big Olive Co. Next we head to Murray Bridge via another ferry and enjoy the most stunning river front setting while you indulge in a delicious lunch. After we have time to check out the local river monster before we continue the journey to the old township of Mannum, home to Australia's first steam car, and we explore the wonderful display of riverboat history and hop on board the PS Marion for a look into the past. After a great day riverside it's time to head back toward Adelaide through the stunning hills but not before a well deserved stop at the Cheese Wrights cellar door and the iconic old Melbas Chocolates is right nest door for chocolate lovers too.

Come with us as we take in the stunning panoramic views atop the Mount Lofty Summit. Enjoy which stretch from the city skyline, to the coast and beyond. The Mt lofty summit is the highest point in the city area and is a popular lookout for locals and tourists alike. Our first stop for the day, this is a great opportunity to pick up a gift or grab a hot coffee.

Come and explore the Bleasdale family winery and uncover 6 generations of family secrets. Langhorne Creek is an historic agricultural area where a handful of families make some of Australias most generous red and white wines. Know as the founders of the region, the Potts family have been making wine for 6 generations and will welcome you to share in their passion and history as we explore the old winery to see old hand-hewn red gum vats and their famous 1892 3.5 tonne lever basket press.

This historic little town of Wellington on the banks of the Murray River was the first ferry crossing point in SA. Here will will visit the old courthouse and police station museum. This very historical site was believed to have been settled back in 1841 with the first police station set up to add security to the gold that was being shipped in to Adelaide from Victoria. After exploring the old courtroom and prison cells we will load onto the ferry and head across the river.

Visit one of the largest olive processing plants in the Southern Hemisphere at Tailem Bend on the Murray River. Here you will have the chance to see the processing of the olives into oil fist hand and discover why the region produces such unbelievably tasty olives. With a lovely welcoming feel the Big Olive Company will have you smiling while tasting the wonderful oils and olives all produced onsite from their family farm.

Bask in the glory of the mighty River Murray while we stop for lunch* at the lovely Riverscape Restaurant. With stunning panoramic views along the river and an extensive menu with something for everyone you will love our lunch stop right on the river banks in the heart of Murray Bridge. Enjoyable in all seasons with beautiful views of the river outside, you will feel completely relaxed and ready to enjoy a hearty meal with a glass of local wine. After lunch why not pop outside and take a look and see if you can spot the local Bunyip.

Step back in time and discover Mannum, the home of Australia's first automobile. A place along the Murray not to be missed, the lovely historical town of Mannum awaits us. With a short ferry ride across the river we will arrive at the Mannum Dock Museum of River History. Here we will go on-board and explore the old paddle steamer Marion and explore the wonderful Museum center full of the history of the region including the infamous Shearer Brothers and there steam powered machinery.
