Nagarkot-Changunarayan hiking is a short and stamina enhancing hike near Kathmandu. It is also popular to enjoy wilderness and serenity via lush rhododendron and witnessing alluring mountain summits to the north. We drive to Nagarkot to begin this hiking. Nagarkot( 2100m). Nagarkot is 32 km drive from Kathmandu which is a popular vantage point for stunning sunrise and mountain views. If the weather is clear, we even can see Mt. Everest, the top of the world. This beautiful hiking ends at Changunarayan, a temple from the 7th Century. The first part of the hike involves an amazing cultural encounter of ethnic villages, unaffected by the nearby capital city. While the second part is witnessing beautiful nature along the ridge rich in deciduous forests and scenery of Majestic Himalayas.

We had a great morning/ day with a nice sunset and a relaxed hike through beautiful nature and tiny villages.. plus a very kind guide and driver :) so all in all a great escape from Kathmandus‘ hustle! Thanks to Ray!

The hike itself was easy and suitable for all ages but unfortunately, on our hike day it was cloudy and foggy so we didn’t get to see the actual sunrise along with the view of Himalayan mountain range in the background. However, this will be a reason to come back again and hopefully be able to see it with our own eyes next time. As we hiked downhill, we passed the local villagers and some even greeted us with the smiles on their face. Our guide, Ram was friendly and informative. He’s a very experienced guide and shared what he knows about Nepal with us. Together with him, our driver (Birin, not sure if I got it right), they both made sure our trip went smoothly and safe until we reached back to our hotel. Thanks again, Ram and Birin and also Luxury Holidays for arranging the tour.

We had a great time doing this sunrise view and hike, we got a great view of the sun rising over the Himalayas! The hike itself was pretty easy, you have the option to stop after about an hour or 2 or push on all the way to the temple (more like 4 hours) which we did and very much enjoyed. Our only negative was it felt like our guide was surprised we wanted to do the whole hike and we felt a little awkward saying we did (even though that was advertised on the tour). Otherwise Ram was a great guide, we really enjoyed talking with him and learning more about life in Nepal! This tour is definitely worth it, it feels like the same quality as others offered but for a much lower price.

Rupak was an amazing tour guide! Love chatting about his adventures around Nepal (especially Everest base camp). This sunrise tour was perfect! Look like we were driving into a cloud and then at the top the cloud moved as the sun came out and we saw such a majestical view! The trek down the mountain was unique to see the lives of local people. Ended at an ancient temple that was being restored from the earthquake. The color and details were phenomenal!

Sunrise view was awesome but a little chilly. Our guide Rupak is experienced and knowledgeable with the terrain and the trekking is flexible to our fitness level. We are truly blessed to have such a friendly, fun and positive guide like Rupak. Many thanks.

Arrived early in Kathmandu for the Everest Base Camp/Gokyo Lakes trek with Luxury Holidays and decided to add in this hike as a warmup. Went solo with just me and Rupak, the Luxury Holidays Guide. Tough part was getting up early (while still jet-lagged) to get there in time for the sunrise, but it was worth it ! The hike was exactly what I was looking for before heading to Kukla; some elevation, nice foliage, some good mountain views. We got lucky in that there was a religious festival going on so there were lots of people in colourful garb gathering in town to celebrate. Rupak was an excellent companion throughout the hike, adding bits of local colour and chatting away with me throughout. I would unconditionally recommend this hike for anyone interested in a day-hike while in Kathmandu, and would certainly recommend that you ask for Rupak !!

I booked this experience for the day of my 46th birthday, and it is easily on my top 5 birthdays list! Ray was a fantastic guide, teaching us about everything from culture to geography to botany to zoology, and os much more! Nagarkot is a beautiful place to see the sun rise over the Himalayas, but don't expect to easily see Everest, because Nagarkot is a protected place, and trees grow. Ray was able to point it out for us, though. One thing the booking description doesn't make fully clear is that there is a hike after sunrise. You head down the mountain, and through valleys and villages, and it's fairly wonderful! The full hike is around 15-16 miles, all the way to Changunarayan, but we only did about 8 miles. Ray was very clear that there were multiple stopping options, and told us that most people don't do the full hike, and many don't even do any of it. There are opportunities for a few stops along the way, but there are very few western toilets on the route. Overall, a phenomenal experience, made even better by Ray.

Had the sunrise tour hike of Nagarkot with Rupak as my guide, had an amazing day of hiking through the hills and down the Kathmandu valley! Rupak is extremely knowledgable about the area and it’s history and it was a pleasure to have him as my guide! Would highly recommend this activity and Rupak aswell!

Ram was my tour guide to Nagarkot sunrise + Changunarayan. The weather was really bad, it was foggy. But we still manage to go to the Nagarkot Tower, luckily we saw the sun rising + THE HIMALAYAS!!! We hiked a littled bit and then we went to Changunarayan temple and village which happeneds to be celebrating a festival so I had extra exposure to their culture and religion. I definitely recommend Ram as tour guide!
