This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Nagarkot View point tower, Nagarkot, Bagmati Zone, Central Region

The day begins when it is still dark (about 4am 5am depends on season) as a private vehicle leaves the hotel in Kathmandu and makes its way toward Nagarkot Hill about 42Km drive to watch one of the finest sunrises over the mighty Himalayas. On a clear day, you can see the ranges of Gosainkunda, Ganesh Himal, Mt. Manaslu and the Annapurna Mountains. The sun's rays first begin to light up the sky, turning the snowcapped peaks from grey to pink before the rising sun turns the snow a most brilliant white. The scene is absolutely breathtaking.
Enjoy then a hearty breakfast about 7am at one of the many fine restaurants at Nagarkot (breakfast not included in price of tour). About 8am the guide will lead you after breakfast on the trail toward Changu narayan. This trail passes through Brahmin and Tamang villages. Watch the people as they farm the terraced farms that hang on the sides of the hill overlooking the Kathmandu Valley. On clear days, there are great views of the Himalayas along this trail.
The trek is about 3 to 4 hours to the smallest and least visited of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Changu narayan. Here discover a wonderful little Newari village where they still do wood and stone carvings like they have done over the centuries.
Changu narayan, because of its location receives the least amount of visitors of the World Heritage Sites, yet is a real gem. The oldest temple in the valley is atop the hill in the village.
There is an opportunity to experience Newari food for lunch in Changu Narayan (not included in price of tour). The people of the village are very friendly and accommodating, demonstrating true Newari hospitality.
The return trip to Kathmandu about 1pm is by private vehicle that goes straight back to the hotel. The day trip concludes here and enjoys your hiking trip with us!

First and foremost if you book this tour expect a high chance of not seeing the sunrise or even the mountain range. My guide told me that (mid-October) out of the 4 days he did the sunrise tour only 1 of those days was clear enough for a view. I did not set all of my expectations on the sunrise and view so I was not too disappointed. The trip started with the driver and my guide (Madan) picked me up at my hotel at 4:20am. We took a very bumpy ride to Nagarkot (don't expect to nap on the way there!) and arrived about 20-30 minutes before sunrise. As it was foggy, we went into the village and had breakfast (not included in the booking). Madan was nice enough to lend me cash since I didn't have any on me at the time. I paid him back at the end of the day. After breakfast and Madan and the driver took a smoke break, we started the walk. If you're a fast walker, it could take 1.5 hours but if you top and take your time like me to take photos and chat with Madan it could take 2.5-3 hours. I was expecting a hike through a small trail but actually we just walked through the villages the whole time. You get to see how people like in the hills, children going to school, and lots of farm animals! We also stopped at a recently build Buddhist monument with a great view of the hills and valley and afterwards a Hindu temple before meeting up with the driver. Madan and I had some great discussion and he answered all of my questions and was easy to understand. The driver then took us a few kilometers to a more touristic town (Madan paid for the entrance) with Hindu temples. The drive was beautiful and the driver was kind enough to stop when I was taking my photos! If we had more time, you could stop and buy some things but we were all a bit tired at the end so we did not stay long there before heading back to a lot of traffic jams in Kathmandu. They were also kind enough to drop me off near Thamel instead of my hotel when I asked. Overall I would recommend this tour or the tour without the sunrise (if you want a bit more sleep) if you are looking for experience to see how people in the hills live and want to get out of the busy capital for a day. The hike is also very easy!

Nice Hiking and easy one :), we have enjoy amzing views and the traditional life on the village while heading down from Nagarkot. Guider has explained us about Nepal's life, culture and religions, it was quite interesting.

The only thing i didnt like, it was that the guider was like pushing us too much to go or stop only in specific store for people he knew; even when we understand you guys are supporting each other; sometime the tourists/people just need to make a quick stop for water, regarless is we are close or far from your preferred place. Also we really apprettiated all the religions explanations but for us it was sometimes too much, kind of fanatic and on top not respectfull at all with other belivings, even when we are open minded and not attached to any religion, for any other tourist or people could be offensive and not nice at all. The people working in this touristic field need to understand that we should be open and respectful about other cultures, religions, etc. I like to trave a lot to lear about other culture, reigions etc.; but when the conversation turns into fanatism or lack of respect about others, I completely loose my attention to the guider, as for me is not interesting anymore, specially when you want to demostrate that a culture/reigion is better than another; i will respect your opinion but my interest for your explanation or conversation is gone, as i will not keep same motivation to listen, it's a shame.

Appart from that, the experience it was really good.

I came to Nepal on business, which unfortunately did not leave a lot of time for trekking and being outdoors. This day trip was a really convenient, easy, and straightforward way to experience some of the reasons people come to Nepal. Watching the sun rise over the Himalayas was a magnificent way to start the day, and the day hike was a great opportunity to see country life up-close. Shishir, our guide, was knowledgeable, accommodating, and willing to go above and beyond to ensure we had a positive experience. I highly recommend both him and this day trip.

Our guide, Shishir, was wonderfully kind and knowledgeable on the sites of Nagarkot. He made sure our group was comfortable the entire trip. The hike itself was mostly downhill and not difficult, but we opted out of the 2nd half of the hike due to the heat. The hotel pick up and drop off were also very good. Overall the trip was good and would recommend to any traveler.

Amazing trip amongst local villages, beautiful views with a superb guide and staff, I would highly recommend it

  • 03-Apr-2019

The guide, Cecil, was very nice and knows a lot! Unfortunately the weather was cloudy, so we could not see the sunrise. The trek afterwards however did compensate this completely. We had the chance to see some of the real life in Nepal, after our 4 day Global Health Conference. I recommend all people who have only one day to book this trip! Maybe you never come back to Nepal! Probably you want to see more after this trip ;-)

We had an excellent time with our tourguide Phangaj. He ensured he knew were to pick us up from the day before our trip and he had great communication via mobile. This is a highly recommended day trip.
