Stop At: Nagarkot View point tower, Nagarkot, Bagmati Zone, Central Region
The day begins when it is still dark (about 4am 5am depends on season) as a private vehicle leaves the hotel in Kathmandu and makes its way toward Nagarkot Hill about 42Km drive to watch one of the finest sunrises over the mighty Himalayas. On a clear day, you can see the ranges of Gosainkunda, Ganesh Himal, Mt. Manaslu and the Annapurna Mountains. The sun's rays first begin to light up the sky, turning the snowcapped peaks from grey to pink before the rising sun turns the snow a most brilliant white. The scene is absolutely breathtaking.
Enjoy then a hearty breakfast about 7am at one of the many fine restaurants at Nagarkot (breakfast not included in price of tour). About 8am the guide will lead you after breakfast on the trail toward Changu narayan. This trail passes through Brahmin and Tamang villages. Watch the people as they farm the terraced farms that hang on the sides of the hill overlooking the Kathmandu Valley. On clear days, there are great views of the Himalayas along this trail.
The trek is about 3 to 4 hours to the smallest and least visited of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Changu narayan. Here discover a wonderful little Newari village where they still do wood and stone carvings like they have done over the centuries.
Changu narayan, because of its location receives the least amount of visitors of the World Heritage Sites, yet is a real gem. The oldest temple in the valley is atop the hill in the village.
There is an opportunity to experience Newari food for lunch in Changu Narayan (not included in price of tour). The people of the village are very friendly and accommodating, demonstrating true Newari hospitality.
The return trip to Kathmandu about 1pm is by private vehicle that goes straight back to the hotel. The day trip concludes here and enjoys your hiking trip with us!

The view of the sunrise and mountain is stunning. We are lucky to have a day with good weather and visibility. There is a few photo taking spots. After the sunrise, we had a breakfast buffet in a nearby hotel that offer good view. So no need to worry about breakfast. After that, we walk down hill into the local village where we can see how their lives is like. Lastly, we visited an ancient temple which is currently under renovation.
Once I booked the tour, the Himalayan Planet contacted me and confirmed the pick up arrangement. The day before the tour, they advised me the temperature difference between morning and daytime, asked me to prepare my hiking clothes accordingly. My tour guide, Mr.Shishir Thapa showed up on time. He and the deiver were very polite and friendly. During the Hiking, Mr.Thapa never rushed me anyrhing, he always gave me extra time to take pictures and enjoy the beautiful view. He was also very knowledgeable. Whatever question I asked, he had an answer. He explained what's crops local farmer were growing winter season, name of the flowers and fruits by roadside, local customs, history and religion of Nepal, all were very interesting. Since he was a very experienced mountain guide, he shared some story of trekking trips. If you have not enough time to go for a long trekking but want see mountain, I highly recommend this tour with Mr.Shishir Thapa.
I had a wonderful time on this day. Woke up super early and my guide Madan and the driver arrived at 5.30am. The journey to Nagarkot took a little more than an hour and we arrived to a beautiful sunrise and breathtaking view of the mountains. We then made our way for buffet breakfast at a nearby hotel with a great view. We then continued to walk around the nearby village which was mostly downhill and fairly easy, absorbing the morning freshness and witnessing the every day lives of the people. We also visited a few temples before making our journey back. I highly recommend this trip especially if you are short on time like me.
Take a break from busy Kathmandu and enjoy breathtaking sunrise, peaceful trek, Nepali village life and the best guide in the galaxy going by the name of Shishir!
It was a fantastic time if you can wake up for it. Both the driver and my guide, Madan, were super knowledgeable and professional, and the views everywhere were astonishing. It was also very cool to see so many small villages up in the hills, felt very authentic.
“Every sunrise gives us the opportunity to begin again with the morning lights of love, with the power of persistence and with the magic of gratitude. “ Debasish Mridha What a wonderful way to begin my solo trip to Nepal! I was very fortunate to have a beautiful clear sky to view the sun rising up over the valley. The hike was made even more enjoyable thanks to the kindness of the locals, beauty of the surroundings and encounters with baby goats, puppies, wandering geese, turkeys and buffalo. Thank you to my wonderful guide, Shishir for his wonderful company, great conversations and good humor and to our very good driver Deepak for this magical day outside of Katmandu.
Madan was an excellent guide and was informative, helpful and wonderful. He took care to give you details and show you things you may have missed. All around a really positive experience and a great hike.
We had a great trip for day hiking! It was unfortunately pretty foggy in the morning so we didn’t get a great view, but we had a wonderful day hike through a local village. Our guide even took us to get a lassi near Durbar square because we mentioned it to him! He was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. We ended up booking our guide for a quick day trip and tour of the local markets and thamel and he took us to some shops. He made us (two females) feel safe. Overall great experience and if we ever come back to Nepal we will definitely be reaching out to Shishir Thapa!
The Nargakot sunrise and day hike tour was a truly memorable experience for us. We got the best view of the sunrise over the Himalayan ranges from the Nargakot tower, which is a small tower in the middle of the viewpoint area. Following the sunrise was a breakfast paid by ourselves (not included in the tour) at a hotel recommended by our tour guide. After breakfast, we started the 13-km hike from Nargakot to Changu Narayan temple. The hike was easy and mostly downhills, taking us through the villages where we could see the daily life of Nepali people. We did the tour in late December so it was freezing during the sunrise, but afterwards the hike warmed us up and it got hot later in the sun. So one pro tip is layer up for the morning and get ready to leave your jackets in the car when the hike began. Communication with the tour organizer was fast and responsive. Our guide Som was also very helpful and knowledgeable. Would highly recommend this tour!
We had a great day with Nirmal we loved the sunrise and walk through villages. Definitely recommend for a relaxing easy walk and information on Kathmandu.
