Read the other one star reviews before booking this experience. It was a total sham! I booked our day for Dec 15 and I foolishly imagined that would mean I could have access for any time slot. I was contacted by the coordinator the day before at 1400 stating that I needed to pick up the tickets between 830-930 the next day or lose my 1030 time slot. This would have been less of an issue had our first train not been late making us miss our connecting train. This happens frequently in Germany! We asked the coordinator for a later slot and we were denied saying he could only accommodate 1030 and that if we miss out slot then the tickets aren’t valid. He really refused to work with us at all and was unpleasant to us. We traveled all the way there and never made it to the castle. Unless you are staying in the town I would avoid this at all costs! We usually have good experiences through TripAdvisor. I’m super bummed they partner with this coordinator.

It's good to read more reviews because we were prepared we'll see limited parts of the castle. It's pity they don't make more of it to be available to visitors. Anyway, taking this tour has the big convenience of not having to be standing in line and having tickets ready when needed. The guide was kind and generous, giving us the one-hour of extra time for narration and to wander around. It was a very pleasant visit and tour.

The overall experience with this was ok. The reason why we went with this is because we waited too long to buy our tickets through the castle so there were no tickets left online through the official site. Rather than wait in a really long line or risk not getting tickets we booked this “tour” the day before to make sure we could get in. We got an email telling us where to go in Fussen to pick up the tickets the day of. For us it was between 9:00-9:30. We didn’t get to pick what time our castle entrance was but it was 11:00 so it worked out nicely. The ticket itself is no different from the one you could get through the castle ticket office or website. No matter how you buy your ticket the tour is the same. Groups start every 5 min (don’t be late) and you have an audio guide you listen to. Bottom line, if there is availability to book directly through the castle, do that. If you can’t, this is a good option. A few important notes, during the winter the busses don’t run to the top of the hill so you either have to walk up or wait in a really long line and pay 8 Euro up and 4 Euro down to take a carriage. Not sure exactly when this starts and stops. Also, the overlook bridge was closed for maintenance so we didn’t get to see that view. Surgical masks are required to enter the castle. Not sure when they will drop this requirement.

Not worth the hike or the price! More than 3/4 of the castle is inaccessible!!! So sad. If we had known we would have to RUN the 40 min truck to get there we would not have done it.

Tour operator canceled the tour last minute. It’s unacceptable in my opinion. We rely on the operators and we don’t get other tickets and they have the freedom to cancel it. And now there are not tickets available. Very bad practice.

We were surprised that we were asked to pick up our tickets 2-3 hours before our admission time, but this was a smart move. We had coffee in Füßen, then made our way to the castle complex where there are tons of things to do and see both before and after the castle tour. The instructions given to us in Füßen were extremely helpful.

Misleading advertising giving the impression the tickets included transport from Munich. Also having to show up at a particular time early in the morning to pick up tickets is very inconvenient when most people will have to travel from Munich. Can't believe Tripadvisor allows this type of advertising on their site.

Last minute tickets found via Tripadvisor…easy to find but best by car. Ticket redemtion is in a hostel in Füssen. Bit unclear about timeslot but if you call them it becomes more clear. Very friendly and detailed explanation about everything going to happen at castle. VISIT WAS AMAZING; light situation inside is suboptimal. Best was hike up to Marienbrücke to see castle from back in full beauty. AMAZING! In general one should be at ok fitness level as you will have to climb up to castle & stairs in the castle. WORTH THE EFFORT!

I had never picked up tickets for a tour from a hostel before so was a little concerned but the process was great! We got our tickets early, found a super cute cafe in town and then made our way to the castle. The lady who worked at the hostel was great on giving us the details of how to get to the castle. We went for the horse drawn carriage ride up and walked down. Honestly don’t think my 75+ year old parents could walk it. Castle tour itself was quicker than I expected. Make the extra trip to go to the bridge for the best view of the castle!!

Very interesting and educational with the tour guide. I would recommend the personal tour guide and not the audio tour. It is a very steep climb to the castle and lots of stairs to climb
