Know More about this tour

This glorious folly was built in the 19th century by the famed "mad" King Ludwig II, a man intoxicated by myth and who himself became a legend. The shimmering white towers of the castle among the clouds are instantly recognizable to many and is the inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle, and is also famous as the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Castle. To visit it is to step inside a fairy tale.

Your guide will tell the engaging story of King Ludwig's renowned and tragic reign, of his turbulent times, and of the obsession that drove him to build his fantasy castle in the mountains and ultimately destroyed him. Take an exclusive internal tour of the king's private chambers with a specialist castle guide.

Entrance fees to the Neuschwanstein Castle are not included. A supplement of 14 euros (per adult ) is payable direct in the tour office where you check in for the tour. This guided tour includes advance booking so you can skip long lines and gain quick access to the Neuschwanstein Castle. Don't waste time waiting in lines on vacation!

The journey to Neuschwanstein takes approximately 2 hours by bus or train. Germany's rail system is world renown and this journey to the Alps is no exception. Offering spectacular views, trains are clean, comfortable and equipped with washrooms. Feel free to walk around and chat to your fellow travellers as well as your guide, who can answer any questions about Munich and Bavaria.

Was a fantastic way to see Neuschwanstein Castle and the surrounds. Our guide Stephanie was very good. Would highly recommend even to the seasoned traveller.

I recently went on this tour to Neuschwanstein castle and it was the highlight of my trip to Munich! I snowed in the morning before our arrival, so when we got there it was covered in snow, and so beautiful. Our guides, Anna and Veronica, kept us interested on the bus ride with history and facts about the castle and the villages we passed through on the drive. Anna led my half of the group up the path to the castle; even with the cold and snow she was good natured and knew so much about the history of the castle and the area. It was really interesting to hear the whole backstory of King Ludwig and then connect that story to all of the details on the inside of the castle. The actual tour inside the castle is pretty short, so I was really pleased with the in depth history and details we got from Anna on our walk up to the castle. On our return ride to Munich Anna walked up and down the bus asking people if they needed any suggestions for the evening or the rest of their trip. She recommended us to a great restaurant for dinner. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a great day trip out of Munich, and I can't say enough how great Anna and Veronica were as our guides!

While we enjoyed the castle and the spectacular views and scenery it would be possible to do this area without a guide especially during low season. Due to our local guide not arriving to lead the tour meant that there was a lot of disorganisation from the company and confusion on our part as to what what happening. We ended up having to run for a train and they sent a member of management staff with us and another guide on the next train. We missed out on over a third of the tour without a guide and all the information and stories that he could had imparted during that time. Could be very easily done by oneself on public transport especially as castle entry and some of the buses where not included in this price! What you are paying for is a tour guide we felt this fell far short of our expectations and where very dissatisfied with the experience. For four and a half hours without a guide the only compensation offered from the company was a cold drink from their fridge.

I don't think I have been to a more scenic place, the hills, lake, castles and snow are insanely picturesque. Our tour guide was Dan "the bearded man", a friendly fella, who made a lot of effort to get to know the guests on his tour. Really into his history he gave a lot of good information about the location and German culture. Visit this place.

The one downside was that the tour was a 1hr 45 minute journey by bus, with no toilet. Which I thought was a bit short sighted considering there were kids on the tour. Something the tour operators should try to improve on. Nevertheless, a thoroughly enjoyable day, a highlight of our entire holiday.

Tour was well organised, but maybe more time should be given for taking photos or looking around. We took the horse carriage ride which left us just enough time but with the castle tour inside as well, everything was a bit rush.

Enjoyed the full day trip. The walk up to the castle was ok - if you are with kids better take the bus. The castle interior was exceptional - I haven't seen such a well preserved rooms - I have been to Paris and St. Petersburng! Our guide Sarah was great and answered all our questions :)

The castle itself was alright but the tour guide (Thomas) made it splendid. Would have liked a little more tome on top/ ear the castle.

Charlie, our English tour guide, made the trip easy and enjoyable. He was very engaging and knowledgable about King Ludwig and the surrounding area. That being said, what you are really paying for is the easy and comfort of a self contained round trip from Munich to the Castle. For those more adventurist, I believe you could see more for a lot less money by taking the train on your own . It annoys me that the castle fee was not included in the tour price and then they charged more for the ticket than you could get at the castle entrance. But the biggest bummer for me was that coach ride thru the beautiful countryside was obscured by the filthy windows. I believe the coach is hired by the tour company so its technically not their fault , but it did taint what was otherwise a very pleasant drive. Over all the tour was good as we only had one day, but left us longing to spend more time in that beautiful region of Bavaria.
