Know More about this tour

Drive-out approximately 30 miles (48 km) to the embarkation point of your airboat from your New Orleans hotel. Depending on the option you selected, board a large airboat holding 15 to 25 passengers or a small airboat limited to six to eight passengers for a more intimate, personalized experience.

Set out on a 20,000-acre (8,095-hectare) tract of tidewater cypress swamp close to the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Your flat-bottomed airboat is powered by an aircraft propeller to allow a fast, fluid trip through the shallow marshes. Feel the wind on your face as you zip into bayous lined with mossy cypress and tupelo-gum trees and your pilot points out a stunning variety of wildlife.

Prepare to see plenty of alligators in the warmer months (and warmer days in winter), some of which may be out sunning themselves on rocks! Your guide may even feed the gators, affording you amazing photo opportunities. Also keep your eyes open for turtles, snakes, egrets, herons and ibis. You may even catch sight of a hawk, owl or bald eagle. In the cooler months, look for white-tailed deer, raccoons and the large rodents known as nutria.

Your morning or afternoon airboat tour ends at the embarkation point. Be sure to check out the indoor exhibits of alligators including an albino alligator before making your way back to downtown New Orleans on your own.

  • Could have been FIVE stars if it had been Spring, Summer or early Fall. Because the trip was in late December, there was no wildlife and it was VERY cold. Alligators, turtles, snakes are cold blooded so they go underground for months. I wish someone had pointed out beforehand that the wildlife would be limited as it was a very expensive tour for 8 of us to basically ride on an airboat for two hours searching for animals that didn't exist. We saw three egrets and one nutria. To make up for the lack of wildlife the guide tried to make it fun by going extra fast. Intentions were good but he went around a turn too sharply and we ended up sideways on the bank. The guide had to get out and turn us back up straight and then push us back into the water. He ended up slipping and falling backwards into the front of the boat. He had to climb out into the cold bayou to get us going again. Fortunately no guests fell out of the boat but it was scary. A young child would definitely have flown out of the boat. This would have been a FABULOUS tour at a different time of the year... but save your money and skip it during the winter months.

  • Great trip. From young to old in our group loved the ride and seeing the swamp. We took the more private 8 person boat which was nice since we could fit smaller canals of the swamp. Saw some small gators and one large one on a late December trip. Easy drive in from the city if you have a car. Operation was professional, on-time, and learned quite a bit about the local environment.. We would do this again. excursion

  • Worth the time. Interesting. Fun fir our granddaughter.

  • FUN!! Must do

  • Wonderful trip. The transport worked amazing. We weren't staying in French Quarter but arranged with the transport to pick us up where our accommodation shuttle was dropping us off. Turned out the 'day-of'' there was some road work needing a change of drop off and pickup....went very smoothly. The air boat operator was very knowledgeable and personable. Would recommend this and do it again as well.

  • Best price around if you don’t need the transportation! The company is Airboat Adventures. It took me a while to figure that out before booking, so hopefully that helps someone. Our captain was fun and knew his stuff.

  • A highlight of our trip! A little thrilling, beautiful and informative!
TIP: If you've never been to NOLA, book this your first or second day. It really gives you a deeper appreciation when you are drinking grenades in the city

  • Great fun for whole family! Highly recommend!!

  • Awesome and fun adventure! Perfect for family! Saw lots of gators too!

  • Was better than I imagined. Guide was very informative. Saw many alligators. Experienced the bayou
