Don't miss the chance to take this popular tour of the Boyne Valley, one of Ireland's most important historic locations. You'll get a sense of the ghosts of Ireland's past at the tombs of Newgrange (UNESCO site) and visit Tara Hill, full of historical monuments.

Know More about this tour

Sit back and relax as we escape deep into the countryside. We will take you back in time to the seat of the High Kings of Ireland at the Hill of tara.

Our first stop of the day is in the small picturesque fishing village of Howth. We drive through Howth Summit where you can appreciate spectacular views looking out over Dublin Bay. Let the fresh sea breeze invigorate you before we head to the countryside via the coastal route.

Continuing to Newgrange, this magnificent UNESCO World Heritage site is dated 3,200BC and is one of the oldest and largest Neolithic burial chambers in Europe predating the Egyptian pyramids! Older than Stonehenge, for 5,000 years the ancient megalithic tomb at Newgrange in County Meath has housed the remains of Stone Age aristocracy, sheltering the spirits of the long dead from the outside world. As part of your experience, you will be taken on a guided tour inside the tomb of Newgrange. We are one of the few companies who can provide you with this unique experience.

The Hill of tara was once the ancient capital of Ireland. It was here that the King of Ireland was decided. Legend says that stone called the Lia Fail cried out when the true King touched the stone. Why not visit the Hill and touch the stone and see if it cries out! Though best known as the seat of the High Kings of Ireland, the Hill of tara has been an important site since the late Stone Age when a passage-tomb was constructed there. Tara was at the height of its power as a political and religious centre in the early centuries after Christ.

Nice trip but should have done Howth last when more would have been open. Newgrange was beautiful. The tour guide was informative and knew his stuff. Overall a good trip except for the order of sights.

Tour was very well planned, appropriate timing for breaks along the way. Tour guide, Ross, was very knowledgeable and fun to listen to, interacted well with all members of the group. Driver, Allen, was also fun to chat with. The tour of the Newgrange site was awe inspiring, the guides there do a great job of explaining the site and adding to the wonder about the site. Lunch at Newgrange hotel was great, sufficient choices for all, and plenty of food. Hill of Tara was very rainy, Ross took those who wanted to go anyway. Excellent value for money.

Trev was great. Appreciated the flow of the day but wished we could have had more time at newgrange. No complaints by any means. Thank you.

The tour to Newgrange was wonderful and nicely organized. Newgrange is a bit difficult to see on your own because bus tours such as this one take up all the available slots midday, and you cannot get into the site without a guide. Our guide on this occasion was extremely knowledgeable and very funny. Having said that, I could have done without the stop to Hwoth which is a sleepy village with nothing to see at 10 o'clock in the morning. The Hill of Tara was OK, provided the weather is good. If not, you will find it tiresome.

This was the only tour we took that had a guide as well as a driver. This is a bonus in that the guide was able to provide additional information when touring the Hill of Tara. He was informative as well as funny. It was unfortunate that it was not well advertised that the visitor center at Newgrange was closed and the bathrooms had very little water pressure so had "issues" with so many people. The staff at Newgrange could be a bit more enthusiastic about visitors but that is not the fault of the tour company.

This full day tour from Dublin is organised by Gray Line and is a wonderful way of visiting these essential prehistoric sites. Pick up is in O´Connell Street at 9.30 and the coach is modern and comfortable. You start quietly with a short stop in Howth on the coast overlooking Dublin. There is not much to see here, but I suspect that we are filling time for the visit slot at Newgrange. An hours drive takes you to this site, where you spend half an hour with a local guide. This consists of 10 minutes outside getting background then 10 minutes inside where the winter solstice is recreated and then 10 minutes walking round the tomb. Access is controlled as you have to bus out to the site and each group is limited to 24 people. After a very good lunch stop at the Ardboyne hotel in Navan (I recommend the bar meals - but a carvery is also available) you go on to the Hill of Tara which we saw in bright sunshine and saw the archaeological remains and the splendid views. You are back in Dublin by 6. All credit to Trevor (the guide) and Alan (the driver) for a very successful day.

Trevor and the captain made this trip a good one with all the info and humor. Liked the little fishing town, good stop with decent weather to walk the docks. Newgrange was very interesting, the main reason we toured. Hill of Tara pretty tame, but a nice view as promised. Weather held off most of the time which would make a huge difference if it was pouring.

Trevor and Captain were great. This is my first time to Ireland and I wanted to be a complete tourist. I am so glad I took the tour. If I were to try to do this on my own, not sure if I would have gotten all the great history and life of Ireland. No only did I go to a bucket list place. Neolithic times are one of my favorite, Trevor actually was amazing with all the "other" history of Ireland. This is my first time to Ireland, but not my last. Going into the tomb at Newgrange and being part of the "reenactment" of winter solstice was just the icing on my cake. The Hill of Tara was even more than I expected. Thank you Trevor and Captain for making my experience amazing.

Ross and Darius were great guides/ drivers on this trip. Relaxed trip with lots of stops and even though it was raining on some of the day it was a great day out. Very interesting and entertaining.
