Know More about this tour

We meet at the dock in the boat basin where we have our safety talk and get equipped with wetsuits, booties and personal flotation devices. You get comfortable with your kayak in the calm waters of the estuary before making the paddle into the Pacific Ocean and out to Chetco Point. On your way out to the ocean you can view the many recreational fishing vessels and sailboats moored to the docks as well as the many different birds, sea lions and harbor seals. Crossing the Chetco River bar is as easy as it gets in Oregon. This heavily protected river mouth is a breeze to cross and once you hit the ocean everything changes. We paddle through kelp forests, offshore rocks and coves until we reach Chetco Point where we can take a quick break on the protected beach to stretch our legs. There are usually Brown Pelicans, Pigeon Guillemots, Osprey, Cormorants and Common Murres as well as lots of curious Harbor Seals! Sometimes the seals get close enough to get some good pictures and swim under our kayaks. Often times paddlers can get close experiences with the migrating or summer resident Gray Whales. Harbor Porpoise are also sometimes seen on this paddle. Round trip usually takes around 2 hours and the paddling difficulty is easy to medium level.

It was the best morning! Emily is a fantastic guide! We saw an abundance of wildlife, including too many seals to count. We will be back!

My husband and I had the time of our lives sea kayaking with South Coast Tours! Guides Emily and Katie were fantastic and so knowledgeable, and made us feel so comfortable as first time sea kayakers and pointing out cool local ecology along the way. We kayaked through the most beautiful portion of the Oregon Coast I've ever seen. What an insanely cool experience - if I could give the tour 20 stars I would! We'll be back, for sure.

We had a great time! Despite a little sea sickness and some confusion right when we arrived, we are easy going and just go with the flow. Moms be prepared to change into a wet suit virtually in public. Marcus was very nice and we had pretty good weather. My 13 year old daughter who usually gets motion sick was fine! And my 17 year old son loved it. Very fun experience. Thank you so much!

Great experience with Marcus - our family of 4 absolutely loved it!! It was a gray dreary and cold day - but in our wetsuits and excellent quality kayaks we were ready to paddle - time and distance was perfect and the little stopover near shore to explore a vast tidepool was fun. Marcus had called us the day prior warning of the inclement weather so we adjusted our plan from singles to tandems and from Arches to Brookings - it worked out perfectly and Marcus is a delight!

Marcus did a fabulous job leading our tour! We went out with 5 other people including a marine biologist couple who gave us a ton of info about what we were seeing. We got to kayak through a ton of arches, we saw sea stars, sea anemones, baby comorants and are seaweed. We loved it, beautiful day and great people. We highly recommend it!
