Head back in time and discover the old historical heart of Valencia. Go beyond plates of paella, the sunny beach and market halls. Start your 1.5-hour walking tour at Plaza de la virgen, the most symbolic square of Valencia. If theres something that defines Valencia its this square. Your private local host will be happy to tell you all about the local rituals and events that take place here. Admire the fountain and stroll around to appreciate the beautiful architecture.

As you walk, youll stop at places like the largest Gothic city gateway in all of Europe. Youll even take a peek inside a bakery that still holds part of the 11th century city wall inside. Your private guide will tell you all about the Arabic cultural impression that is still notably present in architecture and even in modern Spanish vocabulary.

While you wander past secret alley ways, your local hostwill point out a neighborhood where monks used to live. This part of the medieval old town is peaceful during the day and bursting with life at night. Today, this neighborhoods has a renewed purpose as one of the citys main cultural spaces and is famous for its cozy cafes, bars and restaurants.

Valencias silk weave history is not one to forget. Wander past the street that still maintains a silk craft workshop today. If youre lucky youll even catch a traditional weaver at work. Make your way to stunning courtyards and little-known plazas that trace the route of the northwestern portion of the Arabic defensive wall from that period. Check out remaining bits of the wall and top it off with a panoramic view over the city.

Top off your tour with a peek inside a typical parish church that was remodeled. Its restoration has been classified as the most important architectural and pictorial-ornamental work ever carried out anywhere in the world. Its a must-see! End the tour at a square that leads to the old Moorish quarter. Your host will be happy to leave you with the best food and drinks recommendations before you say goodbye.

The awesome locals are eager to show you their own unique personal anecdotes with you. Get a glimpse into their daily lives and feel free to share any specific ideas to make this private tour most suitable to your preferences.

Marcos is not just showing around, but tells an interesting story about the history story of Valencia. The buildings, churches and sites are figuring in this story. With his approach and knowledge, he is the best guide we have had so-far. Besides, he is a very pleasant guy!

We booked this tour on our first fill day in Valencia. Marcos (our guide) was very knowledgeable. We started in Plaza de la Virgen and slow walked our way through the highlights of the area. The tour was about an hour and 45 minutes, but we never ventured much further than the Roman gate. We enjoyed the depth of Marcos's experience. He even used an Ipad to provide additional visual aids and historical context along the way. For two people who love architecture and culture, we would recommend this tour. If you're a strong walker - great! If not, no worries; Marcos moves at your own pace and gauges the flow of the pace as you go. We paid for a private tour - just for the two of us. At the beginning of the tour, Marcos asked if we could add four other people (2 couples) because a colleague was ill; we declined as we felt we really wanted to get the value of our private tour which could have been lost to use if we had added more people. In all - a great choice if you're looking for a private option to start your trip in Valencia.

A really good introduction to Valencia. The guide explained the history and background to this interesting city and showed us some aspects of it, concentrating on the Old Town and its development since the Moorish times, pointing out things like the rounded street corners and having a look into the courtyard of a former palace. We were given glimpses into some museums and churches that we could visit later in our stay. When we did visit the main attractions - such as the cathedral, San Nicolas, the Llonja and others - we understood and appreciated them much better as a result of this. We were very pleased to have done this tour at the start of our visit.
