Meet your tour guide at your per-arranged time in the lobby of your hotel. Together with your tourguide you will tranfer to the train station in Zurich. You will board an intercity train, which will take you along the lake Zrich to south-eastern Switzerlan. After one hour and 20 minutes, you arrive in Chur, the oldest town in Switzerland. Depending on schedule, a short walk around with your tourguide will take place.
Back at the train station, you will take your seat at one of the panoramic coaches of the Glacier Express. Shortly after departure (around 11:45am), the lunch service will start, while you will pass through the famous Rhine gorge heading to Disentis. During your journey, audio comments by headphone are availabe or you simply as your tourguide.
In Disentis, the train will start to climb to 2033m above sea level while a rough alpine landscape will pass the windows. On top, the "Oberalp pass" you will see a small lighthouse - your tourguide will explain you the story. The train will start to descent on a steep track down to Andermatt, a village on 1400m above sea level and now opening the new resorts. The train will stop in Andermatt for 15 minutes, that you will have the chance to get off the train for same fresh air.
The journey will continue through the 15 kilometer long "Furka" base tunnel, constructed in 1982 to save travel time from Andermatt to Brig and to operate all year. The Glacier Express will continue through the Goms valley in direction of Brig. This valley is known as a destination for hiking (summer time) and winter sports. After two hours travel time from Andermatt away, you willarrive in Brig. In Brig you will get off the Glacier-Express train and you can take the chance for a little walk around through the pedestrian zone in Brig and the palace "Stockalper".You'll be shown the place, where the water level was 4 meter high in 1993, where the local river flooded the city center.
Your tourguide will lead you to the right train in Brig, where you will board an intercity train. Your tourguide will most probably leave you in Brig and will handover all necessary tickets and information to you. Simply Awesome! No words can define it... Must check-out Bern and Brig too, if you can...
Thanks to our guide Rebacca who was par-excellence for making our journey a memorable treat.
The highlight of our time in Switzerland. Our guide, Dominique, was super fun and extremely knowledgable. She knew the answer to every question we asked and we really enjoyed our time with her. Although it's possible and pretty easy to do the trip without a guide, I would really recommend booking a guide. It removes all of the stress and allows you to learn a lot more about Switzerland than you would without one. I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone that has a free day in Switzerland! The Swiss Alps are amazing, and the meal on the train was delicious.
loved our guide, this is a full day tour. we visited in december and the sights were amazing, all the countryside covered in snow, just amazing!
the train is very comfortable, the food is good, our guide was very enthusiastic.
i think the highlight ofthis tour was the small town of Brig, i just wish we would have had more time in there, otherwise its a 10/10
We had Oskar as our guide. It was myself, my girlfriend and him. He was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour. My partner has a hard time walking and Oskar was totally patient and when it was time to board the the trains, he went ahead of us so we had the best seats on the train for the spectacular views. Well worth the money spent.
The day trip was amazing with spectacular views. Our tour guide, Anja, was really helpful all day. Arrived on time. Offered her local knowledge of the trip throughout the day. Made sure we got all the right connecting trains. We got much more out of the day because of her service. Highly recommended
Mr. Oskar did an amazing job of guiding our day. The sights, sounds and tastes of Switzerland left us planning our next visit. While we could have planned our day adventure on our own, having Mr. Oskar walk us through personal experiences and history of this beautiful land was well worth every penny.
This was a great tour. We got to see a lot of the country with some personal attention by our sweet tour guide, Dominique. We had some difficulties with the Glacier Express, in that they had double booked our reserved seats. We ended up in the back of the train and so the service was less than first class. This was not Viator's fault though, sometimes stuff just happens. The views were incredible. Once you've done such a tour once and you see how easy it is to manage such a trip yourself, next time I think we would try it on our own, but for the first time, it was nice to have the comfort of a personal guide.
The trip itself was brilliant, and we had a fabulous day. The Glacier Express lived up to all our high expectations and the scenery was spectacular.
Although our young guide was quite inexperienced it was her second tour, she did a good job getting us everywhere we needed to be and on time to make all our connections. We were picked up from our Zurich, taken by local train to the main central station to catch the regional train and then the Glacier Express. We returned to Zurich via a different rail route so in effect we circled a large part of Switzerland which was a bonus. Although we could have managed the day on our own, it was much easier and more relaxing to have the local knowledge of our guide.
The guide was informative and helpful. The train was comfortable and the lunch was good. The only disappointing thing was the lack of snow in mid-December, not something Viator could control. Even without snow, the scenery, including distant glaciers, was great.
