Meet your guide at Nishikujo train station and walk to the nearby cooking studio to begin your small-group, 2.5-hour cooking class. Ease into this fun and informative class with a matcha tea tasting in a room with traditional tatami floor mats: whisk powdered green tea with water, sip and relax.
Watch the best way to cook miso soup during the opening demonstration. Your cooking instructor is well versed in the details and nuances of cooking Japanese food. Subtle techniques can have big effects on the food, so be sure to watch closely. Next master the art of takoyaki, a ball-shaped snack made of wheat flour and filled with octopus and pickled ginger and cooked in a takoyaki pan. Try your hand at making okonomiyaki, a popular Osaka dish with flour, egg, cabbage, pork and dried bonito flakes.

At the end of the class, taste the fruits of your labor, with an optional beer or sake pairing (if option selected). Discuss your favorite dishes and newly learned techniques with new friends over a delicious meal.

  • My daughter and I had an amazing time. Yayo was so hospitable and very talented. We did our best to make replica dishes but Yayo's were the best. We had lots of fun trying! We did the sake tasting as well and that was also good. Very worthwhile thing to do! The real Osaka! Thank you Yayo!

  • So nice, Yayo (the chief cook) show us how to enjoy matcha tea, how to prepare miso soup, okonomyaki, takoyaki, sushi and also subtleties for dashi and Sojasauce.
    Do not take a breakfast before!

  • This by far has been the highlight of my stay in Osaka. Yayo picked us up from the train station and led us to her apartment just a short walk from the station. There we were greeted by her assistant manager, the highly adorable dog Akane. Once inside we got to have a cup of Matcha before we started cooking. Yayo had a great balance of teaching and instructing. She would demonstrate the dish/ technique before encouraging us to make the dish for ourselves. She answered all our questions and kept the lesson fun. The homemade sake was a delicious treat and the added gifts were unexpected and very much appreciated. Yayo is an all around great person and instructor and I would love to have another lesson with her if she ever decides to have additional food options. She is a true gem of Osaka and this class isn't one to miss.

  • Great class!!! Instructor was a very sweet woman and her English was excellent. I would recommend this class to anyone. Bring your appetite there is a lot of food.

  • Nothing much to add beyond what's already been said. Yayo was a great guide, and Akane was as charming as you'd hope. The cooking class was seamless even more impressive considering there were 2 of us doing the takoyaki/okonomiyaki, and 1 doing the sushi class, and both happened at once!

    My only criticism was that once the class ended we had to find our way back to the station, which was a little difficult. This was especially true after the sake tasting, which is 6 glasses of sake straight-up! It was worth it opting for the tasting option, but definitely make sure you take it easy, as it was a lot of sake haha.

  • We really enjoyed this class!Chef Yayo makes everything from scratch.She makes her own dashi, soy sauce, and sake to name a few!We learned so much from her. Not only was she nice, she was extremely prepared and she makes sure you are well taken cared of as she teaches.Absolutely loved it!
