Know More about this tour

Enjoy a full-day trip to the Pacaya Volcano from Guatemala city and discover the beauty of this natural gem! Towering over 8,000 feet (2,438 meters) above sea level, Pacaya is considered Guatemala's most active volcano.

After pickup from your Guatemala city hotel, head southeast about 15 miles (25 km) to the base of Pacaya, where youll embark on a 2.5-hour hike up the volcano with your expert guide. Enjoy a mild walk to a viewing spot at the lagoon of Calderas and take in panoramic views of the Agua, Fuego and Acatenango volcanoes. As you continue hiking toward the top, learn about the history of this active volcano and spot unique volcanic vegetation along the way.

Once you arrive at a plateau along the trail, marvel at spectacular views of the Guatemala landscape and see the main crater of the volcano. To ensure your safety, you wont be able to visit the crater, but you will get an amazing view of red-hot lava flowing and steam baths created by the heat of Pacaya.

Take a break and relax here as you take in more scenic views before hiking back to the base of the volcano.

Mirco and Luiz were amazing. They were helpful during the tour, but they also gave me other travel tips throughout the city! I would highly recommend them again!

For $25 get a ticket in town for the next day (never sells out)- you’ll go up and see the DORMANT volcano, which is cool-but there will be no flows(contrary to this description-been dormant for 7 months as of the writing of this review) It’s an enjoyable experience, though myself and others felt it was a bit underwhelming. Out of 15 people only one had trouble (she was young, at 28 years of age, yet very sedentary, I’ll leave it at that, she did say she was going to diet and exercise the moment she got home). Beautiful views-if you are going to do Acatenango consider skipping this, if you’re not doing Acatenango, you at least need to experience this more accessible volcano while in Guatemala.

Wonderful experience. The hike is very difficult, but worth it. Beautiful views, guide is very nice, Lava Store is so unique and impressive. If you don’t do the volcano you didn’t experience all of Guatemala.

Very cool experience! Hiking a volcano is a bit surreal. A little work to do but if you can walk two miles on a street no problem, not for coach potato people. Wear hiking shoes or boots not gym shoes. Nathan out guide was excellent and would highly recommend this tour.

Wonderful tour. Our guide was fun. Although we couldn't go to the summit (since it's an active volcano), the walk up was beautiful. The stopping point was near the top and involved walking on a volcanic rock field to a place where we were able to roast marshmallows from the heat of the volcano. Such a fun experience. Also one final note, if the hike became too much, horses were available to rent for a small fee.
