The Pilanesburg offers everything you will see in the more 'well known' national parks and is only two hours from Johies and Pretoria. Wonderful game, including the big five, and great amenities within the park.

I love animals so anything safari-based is a winner for me. Pilanesberg was part of Project Genesis - all of the animals were brought into the area in the hope of repopulating it under protection. We saw white rhino, elephant, hippo, zebra, impala and giraffe up close. A day trip pick-up/return from Jo'burg with a morning open-top shared vehicle and afternoon private closed-car cost around £135 each.
