This tour was a great way to start our time in Porta Delgado after our arrival. Leon was our tour guide and gave us a really good sense of the city and its historical background. Thanks so much Leon!!
-
Our guide, Leon, was polite, patient, and generous with his time. Once he understood our interests, he adapted accordingly. Good overview of history and current way way of life.
-
Our guide was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating (sorry I can't remember his name). If you are staying near downtown this tour is greatly beneficial for finding your way around. Anybody can walk along the waterfront and find the usual tourist stops but our guide took us up the narrow back streets to the local small restaurants and shops as well as the beautiful and unusual botanical garden. He recommended Casa do Bacalhau for a night of Fado and dining and we had a wonderful evening. Overall a great walking tour.

We did this tour first when we got to Sao Miguel We had a great tour guide in Leon. This was a great tour to start with and we learned a lot about Ponta Delgada and its development over the centuries. This was a very informative and valuable tour.

We booked this tour for the morning of our arrival in Ponta Delgada. What a great way to start our vacation. Leoncio was our very knowledgeable guide. After meeting at the city gates square, we spent the next four hours learning all about Ponta Delgada. We visited some churches, climbed the stairs to the bell tower of City Hall, enjoyed a stroll through the botanical gardens and visited a food market where we could try free samples of island specialties. Our last stop was a cheese stop where we bought some famous island cheese to bring back to our hotel room. We had a great time! Highly recommended tour - especially on your first day!
-
We enjoyed the tour and learned a lot about local history and lifestyle. The guide was punctual and knowledgeable.

After some initial confusion around scheduling, we finally got out and started walking. When this says Walking Tour it means Walking Tour! I'd guess we walked about 3 to 3.5 miles. Our guide had a LOT of local knowledge! His script was very detailed, but he had the answer for every question we asked! This was the perfect way for us to start our stay in Sao Miguel as it gave us a really good foundation of knowledge about the island in general and the city of Ponta Delgada specifically.

Our guide, Marina, was fantastic. She customized the tour for us, while she made sure we experienced the highlights of Ponta Delgado. However, the Viator agency was very disappointing. They did a poor job of coordinating our meeting with Marina. Instead of meeting us at our ship, we had to walk into town to find her. I emailed Viator twice trying to get directions for meeting the guide, but I received no response. We were the only ones on the tour so it would have made great sense for Marina to meet us at the ship and not leave us wondering where to go to meet her.

We met our tour guide in the center of town. Merena is a history major and gave us a tremendous amount of information about the Azores. We Stopped at different points of interest , also along our tour we stopped and tasted the local Beer. She also gave us a list of restaurants to try.

Although we weren't able to get to do this tour until our final day in Ponta Delgada, it was well worth it. We were able to see a lot more of the city than we'd encountered on our own. Our tour guide, Marina, was fantastic. She provided tons of history and context to buildings and architecture. It was a shockingly informative tour with tons of history about the island. There was rain in the forecast, so the tour manager called to see if we wanted to cancel, but it wasn't raining much, and I definitely did not want to cancel. Honestly, this tour was the best value of all the tours we did on the island. While some other tours focused on the natural highlights of the island, I felt there wasn't a lot of context about the culture or the history. I felt that it really enriched my experience significantly, and I could not recommend Marina more highly. She even dropped us off at a lovely cafe, where we had an excellent meal at an excellent price.
