Know More about this tour

When the gates to Port Arthur Historic Site close to the general public, enter a haunted world on your lamp-lit, after-hours tour of one of Tasmania's most famous World Heritage Sites.

With its ruins and remote location, spooky Port Arthur is tailor-made for ghost tours. The ghoulish stories you’ll hear date from 1870 to much more recent times -- more than 2,000 paranormal experiences have been encountered in almost 25 years of ghost tours held at Port Arthur. Chances are, you might be next to come face-to-face with a ghost at this poignant and tragic site!

With only the light of lanterns to guide you -- and the shadows of eerie ruins looming at every step -- it’s easy to feel the presence of souls long gone. Hear tales of disembodied voices, ghostly footsteps and apparitions as you visit approximately half the historic site, taking in the 19th-century penal settlement buildings and grounds.

At the end of the tour, safely returned to the bright lights of the visitor center, you’ll receive a Certificate of Bravery and Courage as a reminder of your spine-chilling tour of one of Australia’s most haunted sites.

  • It was a cold night, drizzling rain. We were in a group of 20 people with a couple of lanterns to light the way. Scene set for a spooky experience.
Guide was informative but spoke to fast and was difficult to understand most of the time.
Only thing to make it better would be seeing a ghost!

  • It was pretty amazing! We arrived at the historic sight at 8:30am and left at 10:30pm. The tour grants access to other areas not open during the day. The only disappointing thing was the lighting when walking through the sight. The lantern bearers where all huddled together and not spread out which was rather dangerous. A few people started using their mobile phones to light the way so we followed suit. Still a really enjoyable experience though.

  • good tour and rather interesting!

  • I enjoyed hearing about the stories in atmospheric settings. The guide was informative and entertaining.

  • Amazingly scary!

  • The guide tried to make it scary, but I found the tour rather mundane. it was still extremely interesting nonetheless.

  • This was a great fun tour, the kids were nervous going to bed that night but still really enjoyed themselves. Well worth the money.

  • My husband and I enjoy the ghost tour. Something different from the day trip tour.

  • Good history. Beautiful ghost stories of a very friendly lady.

  • The tour was great with a really friendly, informative guide. Rob I think his name was. We also saw some cool wildlife on the drive there and also at Port Arthur itself. Concentrates solely on the convict past of PA and the way the building are lit is a bit eerie. Great night.
