Know More about this tour

The city tours start from the Campanile Memorial - an important landmark situated in the heart of the city. We then proceed to follow route 67 - an exciting arts and culture heritage trail that runs through the city. Route 67 incorporates 67 art works that were completed by 67 local artists, these include both historical and modern day pieces that showcase South African history and the people and culture of the Eastern Cape. It also pays tribute to Nelson Mandelas 67 years of service to South Africans.

The tour also includes a visit to the Donkin reserve at Belmont Terrace and the old lighthouse that offers the best views of the city. Here you will find yourself surrounded by a mix of exquisite old Victorian churches, newly renovated terraced cottages on Donkin Street; and a lighthouse that once guided ships into Algoa Bay.

Where do we even begin? We were a group of friends who had all been to Port Elizabeth before. We wanted to do something new, different and informative. As well as to taste local food. This tour was all of that and more. The food was delicious too. Our guide Kagisho also known as John was incredible. Super friendly, laid back, kind and knowledgeable. This man had so much patience and always wore a smile. Port Elizabeth had long been a town that many simply pass through. This tour is worth spending an extra day for. This City is going through some exciting changes. Also because the Afroventures crew will make sure to show you a good time at night too. Make sure to stop in Port Elizabeth, go on their Addo Elephant National Park Safari and be sure to include this tour on your itinerary too. Thanks for making us fall in love with Port Elizabeth again Afroventures crew.

Our guide was Kagisho aka John and right off the bat we were greeted with a warm and friendly smile which made us quite eager and excited about this city tour. Our first stop was the clock tower it was interesting to learn about the first English settlers, the nguni people and the current economic state of the city. We felt completely safe as we walked around the city centre as John pointed out points of interests, buildings and explained the historical significance. The blend of the different cultures living as one mixed with some truly sublime views given the pasthistroy made this tour AWESOME!

We had a wonderful private tour---just the two of us with Luvo so a very easy pace, lots of information about the city and country and even a coffee stop at the beautiful King Edward Hotel. It is always good to see a city through the eyes of a local, but also in this country to hear about the recent history that so many have lived through. Informative and inspiring.

This trip was so interesting as it really brought the history, buildings and culture to life. Had we done this alone wed have missed important historical details which helped us to become more aware of the impact of Nelson Mandela. A must do trip if youve only got a few hours in Port Elizabeth. The walking is not difficult by any means as its at an easy pace. The guide was a wonderful young man, who is passionate about his city, this passion is exactly what places like Port Elizabeth needs, especially with its young people.

Lee was a brilliant guide. He was born in Port Elizabeth and knew the city well. We did a walking tour as requested then he took us round the outer parts by car. He answered all our many questions then took us to a wonderful cafe for coffee and a snack. Our 3 hour trip extended to almost 6 hours. Brilliant day. Thanks Lee.
