Tour Details

Explore the city as a Portlandian would, starting in the sweet inner Eastside neighborhoods. Well meet you in the thriving SE industrial district, at our location nestled in between Portlands best coffee roasters, two distilleries, numerous breweries and our favorite chocolate shop. Here youll be served coffee or tea and be fitted for a bike and helmet, ready for a sweet 8-10 mile ride through the Ladds Addition residential neighborhood, across the sexy Tilikum Bridge, and into downtown Portland. See the city from the perspective of the family cyclist, the commuter, or the bike messenger see its glossiest and grittiest neighborhoods, its greatest triumphs, its shames and transgressions, the stories of its native people, its merchants, sailors and immigrants. Stops for snacks and to walk through gardens, including the Lan Su Chinese Garden, and parks along the way. Meet in inner SE Portland. Bikes, helmets and admission to the Lan Su Chinese Garden provided.

Know More about this tour

You'll meet us at our inner SE Portland location at the corner of SE Main Street and 9th Avenue, near the roasteries for Coava Coffee and Stumptown and only a few blocks from a half-dozen breweries, including the internationally-known Cascade Brewing Barrel House. Once you arrive, have some local tea or coffee (a pourover prepared by your tour guide, of course) while we fit you for a bike and helmet.

You and your group will ride through some of the prettiest inner Eastside neighborhoods of the city, including the Ladd's Addition neighborhood, through hub-and-spoke streets lined with craftsman homes from the early 20th century, and past the city's oldest rose gardens. Ride over the newest city landmark, the Tilikum Bridge -- the only bridge of its size in the world that restricts traffic to transit, bicycles and pedestrians only.

You'll ride through the South Waterfront district, past the lower terminus for the aerial tram and through part of the OHSU campus, where you and your guide might stop for doughnuts. Then you'll travel up (via elevator to skip the steep climb!) into the heart of downtown Portland. You'll wind through the Portland State University campus and along the South Park Blocks, where the Portland Farmer's Market is held two days a week in the summer. Coast down past several urban parks, and some of downtown's most popular restaurants, including our largest of the more than 60 food cart pods (collections of food carts) in the city. Take a stop for snacks at the food carts, or we'll hang out at one of our favorite parks in the Pearl District and eat some locally-made snack food.

Our tour will continue through Old Town and Chinatown, where we'll stop at the Chinese Garden. Don't just peek in the beautiful "leak" windows... we'll go inside and tour this fragrant meditative space, what's been called the most authentic Suzhou garden outside of China.

After this immersive experience, you'll be back on your bikes, riding through the Japanese Historical Plaza and along the Willamette River, the spine of the fertile river valley upon whose mouth Portland is centered. Ride over the Steel Bridge, another one-of-a-kind crossing, and along the east side of the river back to the inner SE. You'll be pointed in the direction of our favorite chocolate shop, Alma Chocolates, after the tour -- after 10 miles of riding, you deserve a treat!
