The name Ribeira Brava comes from the impetuous river that crosses the village fruit of the water courses that cross the county, with North-South orientation that has sharp slopes. This was the fact that most impressed the discoverers, having led to give the name Ribeira Brava to the village.
Serra de gua is surrounded by a dense grove and high mountains, among which stand the peaks of the Cross, Cedar and Pico Grande. It is irrigated by numerous streams, such as Faj das guas, Poo and Serra da gua, which together form the Ribeira Brava river. Its name derives from the construction of a mill destined to the sawing of the woods with the name of saw of water, the name that later extended to all the parish.

Ribeira da Janela is a calm and tranquil parish of Porto Moniz municipality, located in a mountainous area and whose main economic activities are related to agriculture and rural tourism accommodation. At the mouth of the stream there is an impressive rock that rises from the sea and has an opening that resembles a window (Ribeira da Janela is actually named after this unique rock).

I spent an unforgettable day in a jeep with my mother and brother. The landscapes are magnificent, the guide is remarkable and I was able to see some incredible places with breathtaking views. The guide listens and gives very good advice. I highly recommend it!

Très belle découverte de l’île , parcours 4 4 dans des chemins typiques et montée en altitude puis arrêt à Porto Monic pour le déjeuner et ensuite pause d’une heure pour se baigner à Sechal L’intérêt principal reste l’accompagnement réalisé par Lino le chauffeur et guide qui explique très bien la vie de l’île et avec humour

Wir haben dank unserem Guide Gerhart und der sehr netten Familie, mit der wir uns einen Jeep geteilt haben, einen unvergesslichen Tag erleben dürfen. Wir haben viele interessante Stops gemacht, um die einzigartige Natur Madeiras nicht nur anzugucken, sondern auch riechen und anfassen zu können. Wir haben Geheimtipps für Poncha-Bars, Badestellen und vieles mehr bekommen. Wir hatten vor der Tour gehofft, in Porto Moniz zu baden - aber die Schlange war so elendig lang, dass wir froh waren, dass uns unser Guide an einen anderen tollen Pool brachte (Geheimtipp ;)) Das Mittagessen war günstig und absolut zufriedenstellen (kein Muss!). Wir werden jederzeit wieder Touren mit Green Devil und Gerhart als deutschsprachigem Guide buchen.

This tour was great. We had Diogo as our tour guide and he was very friendly and happy to answer all of our questions. Really fun way to see the island!

The ride was wild and the stops were varied and interesting. (Examples: morning stop at a little cafe halfway up the mountains; great views above the cloud layer; a "fairy forest" with trees that are hundreds of years old; natural volcanic pools in the sea; a nice lunch at Port Moniz; a swimming/ cliff jumping stop, waterfall stops, and at a nice little souvenir shop). But what really made it was our guide (Spencer, thank you!) and his sharing entertaining stories, history of the island, current challenges and plans for the island, and an incredible knowledge of the local plants, especially the edible and herbal varieties. Definitely a highlight among the many adventures of our trip!

Great tour guide, loved all the info about the plants, history of different places. Learnt so much about the island. Enjoyed the bumpy off-road journey, that's something I would not be able to do.
