Overview

Many guidebooks speak solely of Pragues hearty, carnivorous, traditional fare, relaying only outdated information of our citys bursting food scene. Were here to show you otherwise. Step outside the city center and get to know Prague the best way we can think of: through your belly. Well taste everything from traditional to inventive, including a Michelin Bib Gourmand honouree.

Know More about this tour

Join us as we make a whirlwind tour of Pragues food, drink, and cultural scene. This is more than just a food tour, this is a chance to get to know the people, the lifestyle, the history, and ups and downs of the city. Its a cultural excursion set around good food, drink, and conviviality just as a food tour should be!

Well start things out right in a modern bistro with a knack for things homemade. A short walk through an up-and-coming neighbourhood in Prague will show us that even the parts outside the centre are well worth exploring and learning about, and will leave you wanting more food. Not to worry though, because before long well be sitting in a modern classic Czech pub, enjoying a homemade soda or a lager paired with some traditional pub fare from locally sourced Ingredients. This boozer is a great place to learn a bit about the history of the region and how seriously we take our beer.

Although we love our pubs dearly, our next place is a mere stones throw away and we dont want to keep it waiting. This restaurant/bakery was awarded the Bib Gourmand in the 2017 Michelin Guide, and they dont disappoint. With a focus on homemade and homegrown, this place is a paradise for your tastebuds. They play with fermentation, wood-fire baking and roasting, as well as natural foods and herbs. Sound intriguing? You should taste it.

Continuing along the old dusty path (possibly literally), well have ourselves a quick digestif from a family-owned, all-natural distillery whose plums come from the environmentally protected region of the White Carpathians a real taste of our Moravia region. Our feet will have a short break as we take public transit towards another stunning neighbourhood. There, well have house-roasted coffee and cake at a cosy caf before making our way to a beer garden in a park and catching a stunning view of our city that is to die for.

On holidays we try to book a food tour early on in our trip. Not only does it allow us to get our bearings in the place we are visiting but it is good to get off of the well-trodden tourist routes with some local insider knowledge while learning about the local history. This tour with Prague Urban Adventures did not disappoint, Our guide Johanka was a delight. She guided us around a variety of different eateries and gave us lots of background to Czech history and how much the country has changed over the past 20-30 years. We tried some amazing foods, drinks and beers! We loved the Czech version of Coca-Cola which was even better than "The Real Thing"! Do not hesitate to book this tour as you will love it and if Johanka is your guide you will be in for an excellent day!

This was not just walking from place to place and eating. We stopped at two restaurants, a wine bar, and a beer garden. We sat down at a table in each place, soaked up the atmosphere, and had nice conversations while eating good food..

My wife and I recently did this tour with one other couple and our fantastic guide Sasa.
He took us to two excellent restaurants (Eska and Local Hamburk) where we tasted such local favourites as Corn Soup with Pulled Duck, Potatoes in Ash, Grilled Asparagus with Red Wheat, various types of sausage, stuffed peppers, dumplings and so on. We also tried local beverages such as fermented lemonade, pilsner beer, white wine and Kofola. We then went to a local cafe for pastries and coffees and then finally to the largest beer garden in Prague for a final beverage and to discuss the local culture. We also got to utilize the local transportation system (boat and tram).
Sasa is the best guide we have ever had for this type of tour! He is very knowledgeable and friendly and speaks excellent English. We would highly recommend this tour!!!

Saša Ivša our tour guide was fantastic!! The arrangements of tastings was delicious and well varied, plus it made for a great walking tour on the 4th of July. Saša was knowledgeable and spoke great English. The tour was well organized and the different stops were really good. Before we started off on the tour Saša provided a great interdiction and inquired about any certain food allergies. On this tour you learn a lot about Czech Republic, plus the local food and beer. The meeting location was easy to get to my streetcar and the area wasn’t filled with tourist. We were dining with the locals, this memorable food-cultural experience is definitely worth doing this tour. At the end of our tour we ended up in a nice beer garden over looing the great city of Prague.

Places we visited on the tour:
    Nejen Bistro
    We tasted:
    •        Chicken soup with asparagus, egg, chives, spinach pesto and spring onion
    Lokál Hamburk
    We tasted:
    •        Smažený sýr (fried cheese) with potatoes and tartar sauce
    •        Prague ham with creamy whipped horseradish
    •        Talián sausage with horseradish and dijon mustard
    Eska
    We tasted:
    •        Potatoes in ash, smoked fish, dried egg yolk, kefir
    •        Roasted rabbit, beetroot, currant
    •        Salmon trout, zucchini, cucumber, mustard seeds
    •        Homemade fermented lemonades (Kombucha, Apricot, Sour cherry)
    Café Alchymista
    We tasted:
    •        Lime Cheesecake
    •        Poppy seed cake
    •        Blueberry cake

When you know all about the sights of the city you best go on a Food by Foot Walking tour with Saša as your guide, you will not regret it. He is an easygoing guy, full of information and the most amazing stories. No question was left unanswered. Except the most delicious food in a variety of restaurants I enjoyed the personal atmosphere in the small group. His great surprise was a trip in a little ferry over the river that no tourist would ever have found. One of the best places was the beer garden with a beautiful view of the city.
