Sample Itinerary
9:30am: your friendly, private guide meets you at your hotel. Make your way to Plaza de la Puerta del Sol, the city’s most famous and most central square. Then head to Plaza Mayor, hop onto Teleférico, the city’s scenic cable railway. Have your camera ready as you enjoy the mile-long climb through scenic views of the city. Spy sights such as the old railway station Principe Pio and the Manzanares River.
11:15am: Follow your guide to Gran Via, the main thoroughfare in Madrid. Stroll along this bustling street, lined with shops, eateries and bars. Take in what makes Madrid so special: its unique mix of Art Deco, Vienna Secession, neo-Mudejar and Plateresque architecture.                  12:30pm: When hunger strikes, stop off at a deli to try cocido, a local dish made of chickpeas, vegetables and meat. Or perhaps head to a tapas bar and sink your teeth into a selection of tantalizing Spanish dishes.
1:30pm: Pass by Glorieta de Bilbao, a star-shaped roundabout. Continue to the multicultural neighborhood of Lavapiés, once the city’s Jewish quarter. Stroll down the streets and see Spanish shops sandwiched among African store-fronts, Asian stalls and Indian cafés. Listen as your guide talks about the Movida Madrileña, the countercultural movement that began in Madrid in the 1970's after the death of dictator Franco. Then, discover hidden venues that are the center stage of Madrid's vibrant music scene.
3pm: make your way to El Rastro, the popular open-air flea market in Madrid. Weave your way through the stalls crammed with bric-a-brac. This is a great place to find souvenirs or trinkets for your family.
4pm: Jump into a cab and travel in style to the district of Retiro. Here, see some of Madrid’s showstoppers. Choose the Prado Museum (with our optional skip-the-line tickets) or Almudena Cathedral. Discover Royal Palace of Madrid (Palacio Real) and Alcalá Gate (Puerta de Alcalá).           5pm: End your tour at the lush Parque del Buen Retiro ( translated ‘Park of the Pleasant Retreat’). Stroll past the park’s many sculptures and take in soothing views of the gardens and lake. Relax with a refreshing drink and talk with your guide about your plans for the evening — your guide will be more than happy to help you find the perfect dinner reservation.

Then, bid your guide a reluctant farewell and head to a popular local restaurant for dinner.

  • My mother and I really enjoyed this tour. Our tour guide Luis David Zapata Madronal was incredible. He planned the tour in such a cohesive, enjoyable way that we were able to absorb and understand all the information and really grasp the chronology of events. After 4 hours of walking we really had a good sense of the history of Madrid. We highly recommend this tour.

  • It was a long day very knowledgeable guide didnt make it to a few places but in general the tour was good

  • Excellent day tour in Madrid - highlights but also local insights. Highly recommended.

  • What a great day! Pedro was awesome. He was so knowledgeable and passionate about the city of Madrid and the architecture. I would highly recommend this tour!

  • It is important to be really clear with your expectations up front, so that you get the maximum value from this tour. It is an excellent tour to get to know your areas of interest quickly. We were able to get to know the central areas of Madrid through this tour and so were able to plan the rest of our visit. Madrid is a city that needs to be walked to appreciate its architecture and history.

  • Our guide Pedro made this tour a memorable experience. We travelled through the back streets to find hidden plaques dedicated to Spain's famous writers and poets. Pedro described the differences in the buildings of Madrid, from the centuries old structures to the incredibly beautiful new buildings on the Gran Via, explaining how the architects designed the buildings to retain the flavour of the past. He took us inside buildings to view underground Roman structures that were clearly visible as you walked over the glass frames that protected them as if they were in a time capsule. His passion was obvious as he talked about a city that he loved.
This was a great way to understand more about Madrid, and we finished the tour with wonderful memories and knowledge that we would not have gained on our own.

  • Enrique was awesome! Kids loved it. He was very passionate about his culture and it showed. He took us to some off the beaten path places and we loved it. Highly recommend him.

  • Given our limited time in Madrid this custom half day walking tour was well worthwhile especially given the great 'local knowledge' of our guide, Ester. She did a good job of sourcing out the main sights we indicated that we wanted to see for example, Puerta del Sol, Calle de Postas, Plaza Mayor, Mercado San Miguel, Almudena Cathedral, Royal Palace, Plaza de Oriente and Calle del Arenal and she explained the significance of each in just the right amount of detail so as to not overwhelm us with too much detail.

  • We had only 8 hours in Madrid, so we decided to book the 2 1/2 hour walking tour. We are so glad we did! Pedro showed us his Madrid that he loves so passionately. We love history and art, and Pedro is an art historian. He generously gave us over 3 hours of his time and showed us the highlights of the area bounded by Gran Via and Calle Mayor and the Palace and Paseo del Prado. There were many amazing moments on this completely enjoyable tour. Pedro was so warm and friendly and wonderful to be with. It was all that we hoped for and so much more!

  • Unfortunately we had to do the half-day tour due to time constraints but our guide was very knowledgeable. He even helped us arrange transportation around the city which is something he didn't have to do. We definitely recommend the tour especially if you are there for half a day like we were
