Know More about this tour

On this private tour, get to know the places that interest you the most. Your private tour guide will pick you up from your hotel at 8:00am, then begin to head over to the Great Wall at Mutianyu. If time allows while on your way to The Mutianyu Great Wall, you will be able to stop and take photos at the iconic "Bird's Nest". This is the Beijing National stadium, which had hosted many spectacular events, including the famous 2008 Summer Olympics.

Once you arrive at the The Mutianyu Great Wall, youll enjoy a peaceful experience and take time to marvel at this wondrous structure and the surrounding hillsides that look north toward Mongolia. The Great Wall at Mutianyu was built and restored in the early Ming Dynasty (1368 1644) on the remnants of a Wall originally built in the Northern Qi Dynasty (550-577). Reconstruction took place under the supervision of Xu Da, one of the founding generals of the Ming Dynasty, who was responsible for building a Wall from Shanhaiguan in the east to as far as Mutianyu.

Stop at a local restaurant in the Huairou district, famous for their chestnuts, mushrooms, and trout. Here, you will have various choices of countryside style of cuisine as your lunch.

Head back to Beijing City to explore Tian'anmen Square, home to the National Museum of China, and the great Monument to the Peoples Heroes. Pass through the south gate to the magnificent 250-acre complex of the Forbidden city. The Forbidden city was the imperial palace from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is located in the middle of Beijing, and now houses the Palace Museum. For almost 500 years, it served as the home of emperors and their households, as well as the ceremonial and political center of Chinese government.

Your guide will drop you off at your hotel at the end of the tour.

We were picked up by 9am on the dot by our tour guide Becky and our driver. We had the choice of where we wanted to go first and how we wanted our day to be. We chose to do the square and city first and then make our way to the wall. Our experience was amazing! Could not fault the service at all. Becky was an amazing tour guide, very helpful, friendly. Spoke English Incredibly well so we understood everything. She helped us take photos, gave us advise and made us feel very comfortable. Not to forget how great our driver was. He drove safely and managed to get us everywhere with enough time to look around. Also January is a great time to come. Everything was not busy and we could look around in peace. Would definitely recommend!!!

Perfect day: taken care of at 8 am at the hotel by the guide 'Lucy' and her driver. The day is very well organized, visits scheduled carefully to avoid tails that can be very long. Lunch is held on the way to the Great Wall (1 hour drive from Beijing) in a typical Chinese restaurant. Back to 17H. Very nice guide that has been discreet when necessary and brings you a wealth of information! Speak perfectly English very open and attentive. In short I recommend without hesitation !

Jimmy guided us to the Great Wall (GW), Tian An Men Square (TAMS), and the Forbidden City (FC).
We, in some masochistic way, just had to visit these places in summer. Well, we decided on a guided tour to get the best out of each attraction with as little time travelling, bumbling around and wasting of time, as possible. Indeed Jimmy from Private Day Tour, knew his stuff. He actually suggested to set off 1/2 hour earlier to beat the heat as well as the crowds. We followed his idea, turned in earlier the night before, met him at 7am. The road trip to the GW was fairly easy, and at the GW, we got onto the ski lift very quickly. We were on the wall, and walked for about 500m or so as Jimmy shared snippets of its history, construction and description. We were under no pressure to walk long distances as he allowed us to rest when we wanted, particularly at the mid-wall battlements in which the shade created a wind tunnel effect, which really helped.
He next brought us to a local local Beijing noodle restaurant, complete with antique furniture and florescent lighting for our lunch. The lunch was filling and a welcome break. Beijingers eat huge bowls of everything!
We next took a short ride to TAMS, which would lead to the FC.
TAMS is a gigantic heat sink. No trees. No shade. Nothing to provide any protection from the harsh summer sun. Jimmy did warn us to bring our sunnies, hats and insisted on hand carrying large bottles of water. Again Jimmy was full of information about the well known site and the buildings surrounding it.
To us the highlight was the FC. Jimmy tied in the tour with frequent references to Bertolucci's The Last Emperor which made the visit more personal and meaningful as we recognised many of the structures and rooms, which were used in the filming. Of course there was a significance because each location had a purpose to it, eg, the Throne Room in which the Empress Dowager met Puyi for the first time, the various terraces where the young boy Emperor played, and the private quarters of the Empress Dowager.
The FC is huge, and the large open spaces, again, treeless. Again, Jimmy did not push us beyond what we could bear in terms of pace. We rested when we needed, for as long as we needed.
There was never a dull moment with Jimmy.
We had no regrets booking the tour and Jimmy made the trip worth while. He understood and made adjustments to our needs, in particular, in the heat of summer, and we can honestly say that our day was very well spent.Re

Anson provided a great day of structure and was very knowledgeable about each location. He did a great job of explaining the history mixed in with enough free time to explore. 5/5 would recommend!!

  • 31-May-2019

Anson was super insightful and gave a lot of history on The Great Wall and China. He also knew so many interesting facts about Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. He made the entire day very enjoyable.

The tour of the great wall, tiananmen square and the forbidden city wouldn’t have been as great as it was if we hadn’t had Anson as our tour guide! He was very knowledgeable about chinese history and my friends and i learned a lot from him. He was able to watch over the group and went above and beyond to make sure everyone’s needs were met. Overall, the experience was amazing :)

  • 23-May-2019

The day was scheduled well and our guide Anson gave us enough time to rest and play! Loved the walk Anson suggested, and also the food he prepared/ordered for us for lunch. He made sure that all the allergies and personal dietary options were met. We arrived at the Square a little late, but was awesome because there were less people. Ultimately, it was a great tour and I enjoyed hearing the stories from history.

I with my friend visited Beijing on transit and booked tour which covered Mutianyu Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, and Forbidden City. Lucy made our tour so easy and relaxing. She very well gave us information about each place's history and its importance. Lucy got thorough knowledge about tour and her communication skill is excellent. This tour is highly recommended if visiting Beijing.

As I only had two days in Beijing, I booked this tour in the UK via the Amex travel service. This was to give me some sort of assurance that I would have a reasonable tour experience especially as it was my first visit to Beijing. I was not disappointed in anyway and from the formal confirmation the tour company night before when I checked in to the hotel to the professional and on time pick up in the morning from the Hotel Foyer everything had been organised professionally. The itinerary of the sites to be visited were the ones that come to most peoples minds and certainly on my list i.e. The Great Wall, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Tiannamen Square. This tour covered them all but at a pace that was dictated by you, in a comfortable air conditioned vehicle with an extremely knowledgeable, personal and professional guide. All admission tickets etc were paid for and the tour organised for when it was less busy and crowded at certain sites such as the Great Wall and a very tasty lunch at a very good restaurant. Lucy as the guide was brilliant, extremely knowledgeable, able to take any question but bring history and politics easily up to date. She has an excellent command of English, a very polite and courteous manner and a good sense of humor. If you have limited time in Beijing and really want to see the main sites in a comfortable vehicle with your own driver and extremely knowledgeable and courteous tour guide then I would definitely recommend this tour package and if possible ask for Lucy to be your guide.
