The vegetation then changes to Argan trees that only grow in the wild and which provide berries for local goats to eat. If you wish it is possible to stop for oil tasting in a small cooperative run by local women, where the Argan oil is extracted from the trees, this multi-purpose oil is very famous for its uses in cooking and also in cosmetics.
Nearby you can gaze at a panoramic view of Essaouira, a charming and artistic blue and white town. Once you arrive to Essaouira you can explore its peculiar wonders at your leisure. Stroll along the quays, where you can watch fishermen unloading their catch of the day and fishing boats coming back to shore, or enjoy the many good restaurants at the part and dine on fresh fish and seafood.Essaouira is a picturesque and divers town where you can explore the historic ramparts and visit the Medina full of local artists selling their crafts made of thuya wood. The ramparts will give you an insight in to how this old seaport village was armed against the threat of invasion. Parquetry still remains a traditional speciality of Essaouira, and another beautiful attraction of the region is its tranquil beach, where you could easily spend a relaxing and peaceful afternoon.

This was my second tour with Mohammed and it was as good as the first. He's a tremendous guide, friendly and attentive to any need. He picked me up promptly from my hotel and had arranged a wonderful local guide in Essaouira when we arrived there. The day there was beautiful and I was able to take in much of the old city. Afterwards we enjoyed a nice lunch by the beach before heading back to Marrakech. This is a great company to work with and Mohammed is the best.
This was a great change of pace from Marrakech. The Medina of Essaouira is much more relaxed! Our transportation was provided by Abdullah, and his vehicle was top notch. Very comfortable for the long drive. Aziz was the local tour guide and was equally great! Very friendly, making you feel like part of his family. 1000% recommend
Our driver Abdul was wonderful! He was very welcoming and very knowledgeable. He made sure we had a great time! Once we arrived in Essaouira we meet our guide Aziz. He was so nice and he was so much fun. Great sense of humor! He was also very knowledgeable and made sure we enjoyed our day. The town itself is a great place to visit. I highly recommend. Perfect day!
We were picked up from our hotel in Marrakech promptly at 8:30 for the drive to Essaouira. It was pleasant and we learned a lot about the history of the area on our way. Once we arrived, we were greeted by Aziz- a local man who has lived in Essaouira his entire life. He was very kind and knowledgeable, and took us through narrow streets and alleyways that we would never have found on our own. He treated us to fresh mint tea in a local cafe which was a nice break. As we walked, the locals would stop to greet Aziz- he seems to know everyone! Aziz brought us to quaint shops where we learned about the craftsmanship local to the area and about the people who make the items being sold. After a light lunch at a fish grillade, we continued our tour for a while longer before being picked up. On our way back to the highway, we stopped along the shore line for photos. It was probably my favorite day in Morocco. It was a pleasant change of pace from the hustle and heat of Marrakech. Must bring a sweater or light jacket! My husband and I highly recommend this day trip.
We were collected from our hotel promptly by Ismael, who was friendly and informative throughout the trip, keeping us entertained. The car was roomy, clean and comfortable. Our first stop was at one of the famous goat trees, where we got some cracking photos. Although it seems the farmers set this up to get money, it was reassuring to see that the goats looked in no way distressed, and their kids were happy, kept on the ground. We then visited the Argan co-operative, where we were shown the whole process of extracting the oil. The WCs there were modern and clean. In Essaouira we were guided by Aziz, who was accommodating and knowledgeable; his pride in, and love of his home town shone through, along with his stressing of respect for everyone - a message that a lot of Moroccan folk could learn from! Please note that it is often windy in Essaouira, and noticeably cooler than Marrakech - happily we were prepared for this, and took jackets. The visit to the battlements above the seas was especially windswept, but spectacular. If you don't like the hassle in the souks of Marrakech, the more relaxed vibe in Essaouira is a pleasant contrast. And it has some beautiful nooks and crannies for your photos. But the fish market is a bit of a shock to the senses! Ismael was waiting for us at the appointed spot ahead of time, and got us back to Marrakech safely - which was an achievement in this country of mad drivers! Visiting Essaouira was a day we will never forget. Highly recommended.
Ishmael, our driver guide from Marrakech was excellent. The local guide Aziz totally focused on (I.e., we spent a LOT of time) in the Mellah (Jewish quarter). Perhaps he thought all Americans are Jewish? Note our men over 6 ,2” tall, blue eyed blond.... He kept discouraging us from the shops we wanted to go to (which in fact had what we wanted) to go to shops he thought we should go to which in fact did NOT have the quality we wanted, wasting our time. We didn’t spend as much time in the harbor or near the ocean. Restaurant we were led to had the seafood and chicken we wanted, but all over cooked especially the grilled whole lobsters and mixed seafood grill.
We went on a trip from Marrakesh to Essouir today. Abdullah was a fantastic driver - a safe ride on good roads. He is both charming and knowledgeable and shared lots of information and insights, making the journey both comfortable and fun. Top quality! In Essouir, Aziz guided us around the old town, greeting everyone on the way and taking us to good sites. So friendly! Thank you both for a wonderful experience!
My family and I are grateful that Abdul and Aziz were are knowledgable guides on this enjoyable day. We had a smooth ride in a very comfortable private car from Marrakech. Abdul’s English was excellent and he took great care to explain what we were seeing and answering our many questions about Moroccan history and culture. The tea and pancake snacks were delicious and served with beautiful silver in a peaceful garden. On the way we also got to hold baby goats from the famous goat trees. Aziz took us to places in the ancient city that would have been difficult to access on our own, such as the ancient synagogue to see the Torah scrolls. Th artisans of Essaouira provided a variety of quality ceramics, woodwork, leather goods and carpets at cheap prices. The fortress by the sea which was a filming location for Game of Thrones was a feast for the eyes. If this was not enough, Abdul helped us retrieve our lost suitcase from the Marrakech Airport! that’s what you call going above and beyond! Please book this outing, because you will have a great and memorable experience for life.
My partner and I booked the private tour to Essaouira with Morocco Inspiring tours. We were picked up at our hotel by Abdul on time. The drive was comfortable and we chatted throughout the trip, he gave us lots of info about Morocco and also where we were travelling through. We requested that we didn’t stop at the Argan Oil as we had done this on a previous trip and we were accommodated with a stop for lovely coffee with very clean facilities. We took the opportunity for photos of the goats in the tree... a lovely surprise. Essaouira is just beautiful and a massive contrast to the hustle and bustle of Marrakech. Our day was made so much better (if possible) by our local guide Aziz, the love he has for his city came across in bucket loads as did his kind gentle heart. He told us of the history of the city and showed us round at a pace that never felt rushed giving us a great experience of the place. We stopped for mint tea/coffee during the tour, sat in the sunshine listening to music... fab! He recommended somewhere for lunch, which was tasty. We then wandered back down the beach to the pickup by Abdul who was again on time! If we had wanted more free time, we could have arranged that, we had a couple of hours, but we were happy to be in Aziz’s company. The journey back was broken up by a stop for mint tea and delicious pancakes in a lovely shady garden. I would thoroughly recommend this trip out of the red city to a place that soothes the soul.
