Overview

Discover the rock-cut architecture of the ancient Nabateans on a private shore excursion from Aqaba to Petra and Little Petra that includes a guided tour of the site. Meet you at the cruise boarding point at Aqaba Port. Traveling between Aqaba and Petra in a private leisure air-conditioned vehicle with your own English Speaking Driver who doubles up as your guide is ideal for exploring Petra's UNESCO Heritage listed wonder Nabatean Red Rose City. You will have the flexibility to take in Petra at your own pace, without being rushed by a crowded group tour since this is a private tour.

Know More about this tour

You will leave the hotel early in the morning to drive with your informative English-Speaking Driver to the Nabatean Red Rose City of Petra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, for a classic visit. As you travel, gaze at the desert landscapes and hear tales of Jordan’s history.
Hewn into a sandstone valley carved by the Nabataean people some 2,000 years ago, this ancient rose-red rock city located 125 kilometers. Transfer from Aqaba Port cruise boarding to Petra at the crossroads of age-old trading routes, to dominate ancient Arabia. Continue to Petra main site to learn more about its magnificent history. On arrival, leave your vehicle, and enjoy a 2-hour tour of this UNESCO Heritage listed wonder with a local guide. First, walk or ride a horse(remove) through the famous “Siq”, a narrow path of 1.2 kilometers; rock fissure that was once the main entrance to the city, and marvel at your first glimpse of the hauntingly beautiful Treasury “El - Khazneh”
as the canyon suddenly opens up. Admire this rose-pink masterpiece, originally built to house priceless treasures and capture it on camera. Then, proceed through the widening canyon to witness other monuments such as the 3,000-seater Theater, the Royal Tombs, and the Byzantine Church. As you explore, listen as your guide describes how the Nabateans sculpted the buildings, and learn how they mastered the harsh desert conditions to make their lives here.
After around two hours of exploring, enjoy free time. If time permits you can climb up the Monastery on your own or the High Place of Sacrifice: a clifftop altar that was once used for animal sacrifices and other ceremonies. Free time to visit The Petra Museum; if there is time, then rejoin your vehicle and driver. Pass by Little Petra, a small rocky valley with carvings, that archaeologists believe acted as the Nabatean’s caravan before heading to the main city and as an accommodation stop for the traders who traveled through the city.
Then, journey back to Aqaba port to board your cruise, where your day trip ends with a hotel drop off. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring a sunhat for this unforgettable adventure. Come and explore one of the world’s wonders of architectural engineering combined with the ingenuity of carving for an unforgettable adventure just like that of Indiana Jones!

The trip to Petra was amazing. The only complaint was that the driver, though a really nice guy, was not really English proficient!

Zaid Tours & Travel arranged for a fantastic guide (Abdullah Ahmad Mousa) at Petra, who was extremely knowledgeable about local history and culture, fluent in English, engaging, funny - and flexible about our priorities. He helped us field the many vendors trying to sell services, while also recommending experiences we might enjoy. Overall, the perfect guide for us. We would have liked to have more time, but our day was shorted by late arrival of the driver from the port to Petra. Three months prior to the tour, the operator (Zaid Tours & Travel) confirmed - in a message in the Viator app - that they would pick us up at 6:30am, given that we could disembark at 6:00am needed to be back on our ship by 5:00pm. Three days prior to our tour, we reached out in the Viator app - and after 2 days had not received a reply so we started calling. The listed number had a message saying that the office was closed - but we called at 5:15pm and the message said their office hours ended at 6:30pm. We then called the first emergency number listed - no answer. We called the second emergency number, and were told that our pickup had been changed to 7:30am. The problems with communication, and their subsequent dismissive tone about our concerns, soured us a bit with Zaid Tours & Travel, but they did deliver on a great tour, a very nice driver, and we got back to our ship on time. Overall, I'd work with them again but would communicate more frequently to reconfirm all elements and expectations.

Such an enjoyable tour. Our driver, Osama was right on time to pick us up from our cruise ship. He was a wealth of local information as he drove us to Petra. Our private guide met us there and walked with us into Petra and he explained the different areas of the site. Petra is huge and amazing. Our driver lent us a local phone so we could contact him when we were ready to leave. He took us to a local place for lunch and he even stopped and bought me some cookies that I enjoyed at lunch. We drove back to our ship after a quick tour of Aqaba with plenty of time before sailing. I would recomend this tour.
