  • Without question the very best vacation experience we have ever had anywhere in the world. Our guide made sure we got to see everything and more. He was informative, funny, and a wonderful representative of Iceland. Book this trip and you will see. Awesome

  • The trip started off great at 9:00am with Einar being our tour guide. He picked us up at 9:00am. First let me say that this tour is much longer than 12 hours. We were gone almost 16 hours! It was waaayyyy too long!!!
Einar started off being very friendly, informative, talkative, and a great tour guide. We had a two hour drive to Vik.
Our first stop was the Seljjalandsfoss waterfall. It is spectacular! Be sure to wear waterproof shoes, jacket, and bring a poncho.
You will get wet walking behind the waterfall! A ten minute drive to our next destination was the Nauthusagil cave. This was the favorite part of the trip for my teenage boys and hubby. Einar was their guide climbing up a river bed and into a crevasse to the top. This is very treacherous and should not be attempted by the elderly or young children.
Afterwards we drove to the Sudur-Vik restaurant. In a previous review they mentioned stopping at a farm. That would have been preferable. It was almost an hour to wait for a table and then an hour to eat. Now here's where it gets strange. Einar had lunch with us which was fine since we were all on this trip together - although our driver on another trip stayed in his vehicle while we ate and at the end of the meal my hubby paid for him as well. He never offered to pay for his share of the meal nor did he thank my hubby for treating him to lunch.
After lunch things seemed to change. We made a few stops along the way to the Glacier Lagoon, which was another two hour drive.
Let me forwarn you that this trip is 8 hours round trip. Not to mention the time spent sightseeing. We got the feeling that Einar was ready to turn back to Reykjavik. We were tired as well but we still wanted to see the Glacier Lagoon. We arrived there around 7:00pm.
It was cold, windy and raining. If you've been to Alaska, then this was not as magnificent. Definitely not worth an 8 hour drive round trip.
We then got back into the car and headed back to Vik to visit the Dyrholaey black sand beach. By the time we got there it was 10:00pm. Very cold, raining, windy and getting dark. We did not see any Puffin. We then got back into the car to return to the hotel.
Einar was not very talkative and we still had a long drive ahead of us. It is very nerve wracking to drive on Hwy 1 late at night. It is a two lane road and there was quite a bit of traffic. I give him credit for driving in those weather conditions and I'm thankful we got back safely without any incident. We made a quick stop at a convenience store and ate hot dogs. Einar paid for his own this time. He did his job getting us there and back safely. We did not see the Skogafoss waterfall or the Solheimajokull glacier. We arrived around 12:45am back at our hotel. I think this trip does not justify the cost. My husband tipped the driver out of habit. We should be reimbursed at least 300.

  • I don't think words can express how absolutely amazing this day trip was. Just the places we visited alone were so gorgeous, but what truly made this trip so fantastic was our driver, Einar. He met us on time and immediately we became friends. He took the time to learn what we most wanted to discover that day, and he made sure we had ample time at each of the stops to take pictures, walk around the areas, etc. We had only one full day in Iceland as it was a stopover returning from Europe, and this was the only trip we booked. Einar introduced us to Iceland and answered all of our questions about his beloved country soccer, foods, history, politics, education, government, you name it!. He was always courteous and friendly. This tour covered around 500 miles of scenic countryside--see our pictures below--and absolutely unforgettable. We saw lots of other tourists on big buses being herded from place to place. On our trip, we were the only people in the van with him, so we stayed at each spot as long as we wanted, stopped off for lunch when we got hungry, and had a say in what we wanted to see and do the most. I CANNOT recommend this trip enough. Having a private tour was the best part of our entire vacation!

  • Especially the glacier lagoon and diamond beach are worth the trip. Also the other stops were really fabulous, but it's a very long day and trip if you do it in one day. I think it's better to make it a 2 day trip and visit the ice caves as well.

  • Birkir, our tour guide, was great!! Private tour is the way to go! He was very informative and never rushed us. We learned so much and enjoyed his fun stories! We wish we had time to do more tours with him as this was the highlight tour from our trip. Would definitely recommend this to friends!

  • Fantastischer Ausflug!

  • We had a wonderful day and saw amazing glacier lagoon, southern shore and falls. The tour guide also driver is great and answered our questions. The schedule was flexible due to private tour. The restaurant he recommended was good.
The microphone in the Van did not work, so not all of us heard what the tour guide said.

  • The drive is really long but Glacier Lagoon is definitely worth it. The place is absolutely stunning! We stopped at interesting places along the way but spent the most time in Glacier Lagoon. Our tour guide Birkir was amazing. He encouraged us to stop anytime to take pictures and we took full advantage as the landscape along the way is truly beautiful. I will definitely recommend this!
