After this we will walk along the Calle Mayor, a centric street in Madrid starting in the Puerta de Sol and ending at the Cuesta de la Vega. Created in the Middle ages, this road became the main thoroughfare of the city in the Early Modern Period.

A major marketplace during the 13th and 14th century, Plaza de la Paja is known for its crowed streets pulsing with life. However, one can find small moments of serenity in the most surprising places. The square is an idea place to have a drink or bite to eat while admiring beautiful architecture that spans several centuries.
Plaza de los Carros is a nice little square with a lovely fountain. Here you can enjoy a nice drink and and take in the buzzing atmosphere.
Following on you will then see the Plaza de Puerta Cerrada, located in the La Latina neighbourhood of the historic center of the Spanish city of Marid. Built on a medieval Islamic fort, the La Latina neighbourhood is city’s oldest and one of its liveliest.

We will then head to Plaza Mayor, a grand arcaded square in the centre of Madrid. First build during the Habsburg period of Philipp III’s reign, it was once the centre of old Madrid, and is very popular with locals and tourists alike today.
Following, you will see the Real Casa de Postas, an administrative building, neoclassical in style which was the home to the telegraph service offices of the National Police force until it was bought by Madrid’s Regional Government in 1985.
Getting to the end of our tour, we will visit Puerta del Sol, a bustling square in the center of Madrid and one of the city’s most famous sites. Very informative and friendly walking tour around the beautiful city of Madrid. Learned about historic locations that we would’ve just walked past if not on this tour. Great insight provided by our guide Beatriz on other visitor topics such as shopping, eating, etc. Thank you! Highly recommend.

We had a wonderful tour. My group had 3 people and another couple was in the tour group, which made a very personal tour. Our tour guide, Beatriz, was very knowledgeable and clearly loves Madrid. We got a real feel for the city and she shared so much history with us. Our only complaint, which was beyond our control, was the heat. With such a small group we were able to stop and rest for a few minutes as necessary, which was appreciated, and also run into a store to grab a bottle of water. I highly recommend this tour, with one caveat. Madrid is very hilly. Young children and people with mobility issues will find this tour challenging.

So glad we got Angel as our guide. He pointed out things about Madrid we never would have known. And he shared his deep knowledge of Spanish history, architecture, arts, politics, royalty, food, religion and culture with a wry sense of humor and yes, occasional irreverence. Even though the heat was pretty brutal, he always found us a spot in the shade, and he recommended some great places for tapas and drinks. Our group was small — just us and another American couple — and it felt like we were out with a friend, not a tour guide. Highly recommend this tour, only maybe don’t book during the blistering summer heat like we did.

Angel was an absolute gem of a travel guide. The tour was full of valuable cultural context and he’s a true expert on the history of the city. I only wish we could go again :)

Sean was our guide, and he is great. Very knowledgeable and thoughtful. Not afraid to share opinions, but very respectful of all views. Great pace, and mindful of temperature and other conditions.
