Know More about this tour

This private food tasting tour was created out of requests from many guests who were interested in eating authentic Jamaican food cooked within the local communities. After pickup from your Montego Bay hotel you will travel from your resort and make several stops along the way to try a variety of different fruits, drinks, Jamaican patties and more!

These are some examples of the foods that youmay enjoy on this tour:

Jerk Chicken
Jerk chicken is one of the most common types of food eaten on the island. You can find jerk stands set up all along the sides of the roads when driving around the island.

The term jerk refers to both the spice rub and the way the chicken (fish, pork, or goat) is cooked. The technique of jerking, has evolved over time from using pit fires to now using old oil barrel halves. Around the 1960s a more portable method came up with a solution to cut oil barrels lengthwise and attach hinges, drilling several ventilation holes for the smoke. These barrels are fired with charcoal, which enhances the spicy, smoky taste.

Fresh Grilled Fish
Something unique about living on a tropical island, is that when you are hungry for some fish, you can simply dive in the water and get your dinner, which is exactly what you will be doing on this tour. Enjoy the freshest local varieties of fish grilled to perfection.

Jamaican Fruit Stands
Jamaica is known for its amazing assortment of fruits that are grown all over the island. As you drive around, you will see many stands along the side of the road selling a variety of different fruits and vegetables that are grown from local farms.

You will get to stop along the way and do a tasting of some of the different fruits such as mangoes, bananas, oranges, pineapples, watermelons, and more! Although many of these fruits can be found other places other than Jamaica, they taste different when they are all natural. You will also stop to get some fresh sugar cane or coconuts along the way.

Patty & Coco Bread
A Jamaican patty is a common quick meal in Jamaica. The Jamaican patty is a flaky pastry, often a golden yellow color and filled with a variety of different fillings. The most common filling is seasoned ground beef known as a beef patty. Other common fillings are chicken, vegetables, shrimp, lobster, fish and cheese.

The patty is often paired with coco bread. The bread has a hint of coconut, a bit starchy and sweet and paired together is a mouth watering meal. There are several well know patty shops along the island and you will stop to get your choice of patty and coco bread along the way.

I can not recommend this enough. Hands down our favorite experience while in Montego Bay. We booked this wanted to experience Jamaica outside of our resort and I am so glad that we did. Charles was our guide and was incredible. He was communicating with us prior to arrival and really went out of his way. At first he gave us a list of places we were going, we had done research and asked about a few other places and he happily met our request. He was personable and friendly and really made a personal connection. On our tour we went to a breakfast spot and had a traditional Jamaican breakfast, two jerk spots, and Rastafarian Veggie joint and a Jamaican Patties fast food type of restaurant. The food was incredible and talking to Charles and hearing his stories and anecdotes about growing up in the area and the food that is so important to him was so cool. We didn't want the tour to end and will book this again if we find ourselves in Montego Bay again. Anyone worried can rest assured that the car was air conditioned and we felt safe with Charles the entire time.

I highly recommend this tour company. We wanted to sample some of the local food and go to the bird sanctuary. Our tour guide Alrick picked us up at the port. He arrived early and we were able to get to the bird sanctuary early. As soon as we got into the car Alrick offered us an assortment of local beverages to drink. We opted for a local soda. The bird sanctuary is a hidden gem. Being able to see hummingbirds up close and feed them by hand was amazing. The food sampling was well worth time and money. We sampled so many items we had to pass on the last food stop. We tried several different local dishes along with an assortment of local fruits and juices. Alrick is a spectacular tour guide and gifted communicator. He made sure we enjoyed our day. He even promised to pick up in his Porsche 911 Carrera on our next tour. We would definitely use this company again.

This is a very fun and unique experience. We highly recommend this as a way to experience some of Jamaica's culture through food. We had some really good and different food, but probably the coolest part was the fruit stand with fruit we had never even heard of that are common in Jamaica. Our tour guide, Charles, is hands down the best guide we have every had (and we have had a lot). He was knowledgeable, but also very funny and entertaining.

I loved this tour. It was definitely worth it. Our tour guide, Charles, was very pleasant from the moment he greeted us at the hotel for pick-up. He was very knowledgeable and shared interesting facts about local food, fruits, plants, and much more. If you are choosing this tour, please make sure you go on an empty stomach and prepare to taste a lot of deliciousness! My favorite stop was Scotchies. We had pork and chicken and they were both sooo good. Tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. We even took some to go. Charles’ picks for food spots (to grab and go as well as sit down and eat) were definitely on point. I highly recommend this tour! Book it! Everything was so good I forgot to take pictures of the actually plates of food.
