Know More about this tour

The beginning of the history of Caparzo dates back to the end of the sixties, when a group of friends, fond of Tuscany and of wine, purchased an old ruin with vineyards at Montalcino. We are at the dawning of Brunello di Montalcino, the Association has just been set up and the producers-bottlers are only 13. The farm estate was renovated, modernised and new vineyards were planted. In a short time, Caparzo was able to impose itself on the market of Brunello. Thirty years passed from the first rows of vines and from the first cellar experiences. In 1998, the farm estate came to a turning point when Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini purchased Caparzo. She immediately carried out her objectives: combine tradition with innovation to create a high-quality wine, expression of an excellent territory, with the help of her son, Igino, and daughter, Alessandra.
The Patrizia Cencioni winery is family-run, managed by the owner Patrizia and her two daughters Annalisa and Arianna. Thanks to the owner's long family experience and entrepreneurial skills, that refined feminine touch is added. The vineyards date back to 1989, the year in which the Patrizia Cencioni winery was born, its origins come from an ancient Montalcino winery created in the 1950s by her grandfather, Giuseppe Cencioni, one of the founders of the Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino. The land destined for the production of Brunello di Montalcino is all around the cellars and tasting rooms, are located a few kilometers from the Montalcino town, about 350 meters above sea level and overlook of Val d'Orcia area.
The Castle was built in the thirteenth century on the Via Francigena at Montalcino by the Altesi and completed in 1441 by the Tricerchi. We have 13 hectares of vines, all of them Sangiovese Grosso, which surround the castle in 7 separate plots cultivated using spurred cordon and guyot: La Vigna del Velo, whose name derives from the chapel devoted to the Virgin of the Veil, the Vigna del Castello, the Vigna SantAnna, the Vigna del Lago, the Vigna dei Cipressi, the Vigna del Piano and the Vigna Nuova. The composition of our soil, containing limestone clay and sand, is rich and even. Our vines are almost exclusively north facing which allows for uniform ripening. Our cultivation methods are based on organic principles and respect for the intimate relationship between man and nature.
