Know More about this tour

This is a luxury Private tour for up to 6 people. You'll be picked up in a Land Rover Discovery from your hotel for our journey reliving the life, times and locations for Ross Poldark's epic tales.

First stop is historic Charlestown which was used to depict Truro in the show. The old port and tall ships are sure to transport your mind back to the times of Ross Poldark .We'll then head for Church Cove, Gunwalloe. This attractive sandy cove is overlooked by the tiny church of St Wynwaloe, dating from the 13th century. The cove was the location for the night time ship wreck scene, which relived the coves real smuggling history.

After lunch (not included) the next location is beautiful Porthgwarra Beach, location for the steamy skinny dipping scene from the series. Once a thriving fishing cove, the crystal clear sea and views from the coast path are exhilarating and you can still see the evidence of the smugglers of yesteryear.

Departing Porthgwarra , you will take the short drive to Botallack, part of the Cornwall and West Devon mining world heritage site, and location for many of the iconic scenes with the mining engine houses perched precariously on the cliff edge. You're able here to take the short walk along the very cliffs featured in the series to Levant for a tour of the working engine house.

We very much enjoyed our tour with James. He showed us many beautiful Poldark settings plus other points of interest. James had lots of interesting information about Cornwall and Tin mining history.

James was our guide for two fabulous tours of Cornwall. He was prompt and filled each day with fascinating views, history and stories. I would recommend him in a heartbeat and we will definitely use him on our return trips to well as all the other areas in Great Britain that he serves.

James is an exceptionally good guide. He knows the history of the area as well as the geography. He can customize the tour to your liking. We had a great day with him and I would not hesitate to enlist his services again.

Our day out with James was an A We learned much about Cornwall, mining and its hazards, and Poldark. We got up close and personal with sites where scenes from the series were shot. James helped us select a wonderful pub for lunch. Also, we have driven in England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland, but the roads in the south of Cornwall must be the narrowest in all the UK! We were very glad that James was doing the driving, so we could relax and enjoy the sights.

I would definitely recommend this tour for anyone who loves the BBC/PBS series Poldark and really anyone who wants to have a great day tour of the Cornwall countryside. James Coulton, who is the tour guide is absolutely amazing! He is very personable and outgoing. Also what was so great about James is that even though his daughter was ill, he decided he did not want to disappoint us and kept our tour for the day he did have family covering for him.
He picked up my friend, Angie and me at the hotel and whisked us away for a fabulous day. He drove us around in a comfortable Range Rover lots of room and even capable of lowering the vehicle of needed. He provided bottles of water and umbrellas which came in handy that day. He showed us the places where past and upcoming episodes of the BBC/PBS series Poldark have been shot. He had pictures of the scenes from the series for us to see as we viewed the actual sight. We went to Botallack where we saw the mines Wheal Leisure and Grambler Porthgwarra - the cove where Rosss skinny dipping scene took place Pemberth - the area where Prudie washed her laundry in season 2 episode 2 and we went to Gunwalloe - the area called Church Cove where Ross carried the coffin of his daughter, Julia to the church and Dollar Cove where the shipwreck occurred among other places connected to the show.
James knew the history of Cornwall which he told us throughout the drive. We even went with him to explore one area for a potential tour area not sure if it will work out for him or not. Maybe he will figure out something on it. Toward the end of our tour he took us to a little café and we had a real Cornish cream tea. He showed us the difference on how the Cornish people eat their scones with clotted cream and jam vs. the people from Devon from where James is originally. We learned that Cornish people put the jam on the scone first and then put the cream on top whereas the Devon folk put the jam on top of the cream. Oh and before I forget one of the best stops was at the tourist information center at Bottalack where we got to meet Annie. She is absolutely fantastic!!!! She is so outgoing and friendly. She is an asset to the area.
Thank you James for a wonderful day!!! Barbara Fee
