Overview

Coyhaique National Reserve, located just 3km from Coyhaique, was created to help avoid erosion after the many large-scale fires that ravaged the area around the city at the start of the colonization. We invite you to be part of this adventure and travel with us to one of the most beautiful scenic routes in the world , enjoying a nature forgotten by many.

Know More about this tour

Here you will have a fantastic view on a majestic Lagoon, the "Laguna verde". We walk around this lagoon and with its different colours, always depending where you are. The sun and the clouds, if so, will invite you to talk a thousends of fotos.
From here we will follow one of the best knowing Rivers in the Area, the Simpson River. Very well known by the Flyfishing scenery.
Before lunch, we will have a short stop in one of the most beautifil Waterfalls in the nearby, the "Cascada de Virgin".
After we have almost seen the "virgin Maria" after which the waterfall was named, we are going on our way to the Capital of the region "COYHAIQUE" (native word for "between the rivers").
Now on our way back to your ship you will have a great experience at a typical chilean ranch where we will give you a unique insight into the life of the local inhabitants and the organic products they serve you. An ASADO (chilean BBQ) a lamb on a spit, potatoes and salad from the ranch, nothing is bought, everything is untreated and pure. The family farm has not only sheep, cattle, goats, ducks, geese and chickens, no, they also have a wonderful strawberry, raspberry-blueberry plantation, where you can pick your own fruit and eat it directly. This is unique and we have the exclusive right. The family will give a warm welcome and explain to you what it is all about and what the life of a Gaucho is like.
Our last stop will be in Puerto Aysn, right beside the Aysn River for taking a foto from the longest suspension bridge of Chile, the "Presidente Ibaez".

well organized. tour guide was exceptional. van and driver were most considerate. old people welcome. saw the driver sweeping out the van during our stops. the weather was sort of cooperative. if the sun were out, it would have been spectacular scenery. as it was, it was beautiful. i was prepared to tolerate the meal at the ranch. what a surprise! the host was great, the tour of the farm was interesting and the food was excellent. best tour experience. the guide had plenty of cultural insights and well thought out explanations.

A great day with a fantastic guide! Tina, our guide, was a German citizen who had moved to Chile a decade earlier. She was able to answer our questions from an "outside" perspective which was nice. She met us at the dock and 10 fellow passengers climbed into a very comfortable van to head out. The first stop was a lake was astonishing with views all around of mountains and forests. We visited a waterfall which was also beautiful. Throughout the day we had a very informative discussion on day to day life in this area of Chile. It is a hiker, rafter, and fly fishing paradise. Gorgeous place with a great guide and in a small group. When we saw the masses getting off the tour buses we knew we had made the right decision.

Great guide and experience. We covered a lot in a short time without being rushed or having a large group. Saw views others cannot access. The best part was lunch at a ranch. Dessert was going to the field and picking your own fruits. Guide was waiting and van was comfortable. We had a tight time frame and they got us back with NO stress. Use this company again!

Great guide. Unfortunately trip composition (4 people vs 2 people) and places visited changed at last moment. Beyond guide’s control.

Amazing tour, Angelika is excellent and her vehicle was too. I went with 4 american friends. We really spent great time.

Huge disappointment. We met a bunch of other tour guides on the dock and no one had even heard of the company with which we booked. Finally another guide used his phone to call the number on out voucher. The guide recognized "Christopher." Finally our very timid guide arrived, Nicholas. The five of us got underway. The driver, Patricio, was excellent. He even tried to suggest things to Nicholas to talk about that we would be interesting to us. We have used Viator all over the world, and this tour was our biggest dissatisfaction. Rather than narrating points of interest or telling us about the area, we had to continually ask questions, and because his English language skills are limited, we would have to rephrase and rephrase and still never be certain we were understood or understood him. Additionally, time management was POOR. We spent way too long at a bridge and lame city park, then at a fairly lame water fall. When we finally got to the park, there was limited time to hike and explore, we were served a lunch of packaged food from a convenience store(?), and did not get to go to 3 promised stops due to having to get back to the ship and unknown delays from road construction. It felt to us that Nicholas was not particularly knowledgeable, that he has seen other tours stop at the bridge and the waterfall, so he stopped there too. We never learned about the park, conservation and parks in Chile, how people live in Chatabuco, etc. Also, when I spoke with Viator about this excursion, we were disappointed in the response, which was basically that they had spoken with the tour operator and he disagreed with our assessment about Nicholas and the excursion. Wow. Again, we have had excellent tours with excellent guides all over the world with Viator. This was our first bad experience and bad review. Our purpose is so that Viator can know and assure it offers quality. To be dismissed so readily has left us questioning Viator.

This tour is exactly as described, a long and beautiful scenic drive. I was hoping it was a bit more rugged, like Torres Del Paine, but it was more like Yosemite. Still beautiful, but a long way to go for the scenery. Our guide, Daniel, was charming and informative and spoke excellent English. We enjoyed spending the day with him! Our driver spoke little English, but graciously tolerated my terrible Spanish, and really tried to make it a nice day for us. We felt well cared for, despite some pretty rough and rustic sections of the road. Lunch was light snacks and some delicious wine by a beautiful lake. It was not quite substantial enough, and some empanadas wouldn’t have gone to waste. As a private tour, it was a bit pricey, but exactly as advertised.

Upon arrival at the port, our guide was quickly found and off we went for a great tour of the National Reserve and the surrounding area. Our guide was very informative and eager to share information. On the drive to the reserve, we made several short stops and the scenery during the drive was breathtaking. Some of the most beautiful pictures I took on this trip were out the window as we drove, so make sure you have your camera ready. The ship was in Puerto Chacabuco for a shorter time period than expected so the tour was a little rushed. For those visiting Puerto Chacabuco on a cruise ship, make sure you have something booked. There is nothing within walking distance of the port and the nearest town requires a taxi ride and there's not much there for a tourist.
