Know More about this tour

Your Vienna wine-tasting experience begins when you make your own way to Bitzingers Augustinerkeller, beneath the Albertina museum.

A traditional Austrian-style restaurant (also known as a heuriger) and wine cellar, the Augustinerkeller dates back to 1884 and is one of the last remaining monastery cellars (a wine cellar once used by monks) in Viennas old town; it was turned into a restaurant in 1924 and since 1954 has been run by the Bitzinger family, who works hard to maintain traditional Viennese hospitality. Youll be in good hands, as the Bitzingers are a well-known Austrian wine family.

This history and tradition makes the Augustinerkeller the perfect place for your private wine tasting! The rich atmosphere is heightened by the fact that the restaurant is located in the vaults built into Viennas old defense wall. This remarkable vaulting has been well preserved throughout the centuries and can be admired when youre inside.

Your tasting, however, takes place in the Augustinerkellers vinothek (the German version of an enoteca, or wine-tasting shop), which was designed by renowned Austrian architect Hans Hollein, who created a beautiful space with rustic brick walls complemented by an elegant crystal chandelier. After you are led to your reserved table, enjoy a tasting of four local wines a white blend, a chardonnay, a pinot noir and a merlot accompanied by bread with a pepper spread. You will receive information about these wines in written, however please note a sommelier is not included in the tour.

If wine tasting just isnt enough, you have the option to stay for a late lunch or dinner (own expense). Just let your server know if you wish to do so, and you can extend your experience with seasonal dishes, more excellent wine and live music.

This was a good central location. Good wine with a little plate of food to go with the wine.

    great service!

I would not call this a private tour at all. It was enjoyable, but more like just sitting at a traditional augustinerkeller and ordering wine!

Augustinerkeller is an amazing place. For the price we paid it was quite reasonable. We had an expert server explaining the 4 types of wine we tasted and we were also served with some local appetisers. The place is beautiful!

No tour was involved - we went into the restaurant, were seated at a table, handed a piece of paper with a one sentence description of four different wines and when they noticed we finished one sample they brought the next. Some times it was a long wait until they noticed we were ready for the next sample. In the description it said we would get four glasses of wine - what we got was four small samples. For what this tour costs we would have been far better off buying the wine by the glass on our own and we would have still had the same lack of information on the restaurant and wine we were drinking.

Loved the atmosphere of the Augustinerkeller. It felt like we were in a very old wine cellar. Wines were very good. Not exactly what we are used to in a tasting but having read prior reviews regarding their hands off attitude we knew what to expect.

I was the only person on this and wished I had not signed up for it. The Auugustinekeller was interesting enough to just walk in for a glass of wine. Here I was offered 4 glasses and a sheet of paper describing the wines. there was absolutely no other interaction. Not something I would recommend. I was vegetarian so they were kind enough to substitute the salami for some vegetarian option.

The wine was good, but the staff didn't present it. They only gave us a printed out sheet to describe the wines and they didn't pour it for us. We're a younger crowd and didn't feel like they treated us with the professionalism that they would use for an older group. They rushed the experience also they didn't even give us enough time to finish the previous glass of wine before setting down the next jug, and were eager for us to go when we were done. I would not recommend this tour.
