Know More about this tour

Meet your guide at Munich Central Station or your centrally located Munich hotel, thentake a train to Dachau where a bus will then transport you to Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site.

During the Holocaust, Dachau was referred to as the parent camp, serving as a training ground for the genocide during the Third Reich. A staggering range of persecuted people were sent to Dachau including communists, German dissidents, gay men, Jehovahs Witnesses, Jewish peopleand Polish citizens and it's thought that upward of 200,000 people were once imprisoned here.

Today the camp stands as a memorial site with many of its original features serving as reminders of a time in history that should never be forgotten. Explore the site with your guide, and see the gatehouse with its Arbeit macht frei(Work makes you free) gateway, a bunker and a crematorium. You can also visit the administration headquarters and see the rail platform where prisoners once arrived.

As you walk around, listen to your guide give the background on each site, learning about Nazis whose names were linked to the camp. The leader Heinrich Himmler set up Dachau, and Theodore Eicke later used it as a place to train theSS (Nazi secret police) guards.

If there is something you would like to know more about, simply let your guide know. After exploring the camp, take some free time to browse the museum or eat lunch (own expense) in the visitor center, and then return by train to Munich Central Station.

  • I'm sorry to send this review but our tour with Jason no-last-name-offered was a big letdown.
For 422 USD he met us at our hotel and we walked together a block to the train then
took a crowded bus together to the Dachau camp. We rode back to town less than 3 hours later.
    Jason seemed adequately knowledgible
as he guided us but his facts lacked depth, nuance, feeling. He wanted us to skip the museum when we first
passed it and said we could go back later if we wanted but then that didn't happen. He left it up to us if we wanted
to see the various religious groups' memorial sites. His answers to our questions were often answered
w a shrug or a vague answer or that the whole underlying problem was the economy!
I had been looking forward to this tour for a very long time. My father was stationed in Munich in 1949 as an American
army doctor, we lived in Munich for 3 years and a brother was born there at the 98th hospital in Schwabing. My parents visited Dachau in 1950 and we still have the small black and white photos they took.
Jason was really uninterested in hearing about this or looking at the old photos I put on my phone.
What a waste, what a disappointment.

  • Fantastic tour. Our guide was an expert on WWII History and details of what went on in and around Dachau. Very sobering experience, but well worth it

  • Brendon is an outstanding guide. We highly recommend him!

  • Our guide was excellent. He has a deep rich knowledge of modern Germany history. Softly spoken, gentle and full of warmth he instantly connected with us. This was a 10 out of 10 tour. We had our young boys with us who like us were riveted in our guides explanations and stories about the camp.

  • Jason was an excellent guide, a powerful tour.

  • Everything about this was easy - booking on-line, collecting us from our hotel, the train journey, etc - just great! Our guide, Jason was very friendly and his knowledge and expertise on WW2 and Dachau was extensive. On what is a very dark period of history he managed to keep things light without minimising what had gone on and answered all our questions. We left feeling more informed about this period in history.

  • We had Sabri for our tour guide and we could NOT have asked for a better tour experience at Dachau. Besides the wealth of knowledge he had, it was well worth it to have him pick us up in our hotel so we didnt have to worry about transportation out there. The tour lasted from 11am-5pm.

  • Jason was excellent! His knowledge of Dachau opened up a new world to us as he brought the site to life, which was emotional. The history of this camp, the memorials that have been erected and the general feeling will never leave us. I highly recommend taking the private tour. Thanks!

  • Brendan was AMAZING!!! We got so lucky having him as our tour guide. He met us right outside our AIRBNB. He was right on time. We walked to the subway and then took the train to Dachau. He was incredibly knowledgeable and really painted a picture of the camp. His message resonated not only for my husband and I but our teenagers as well. He told us a story and it was captivating. Having a personal guide for this tour is 100 worth the money and if you are lucky enough to have Brendan you will have a day that you will never forget. Do this tour above all others!!!

  • Scott, our tour guide for Dachau, is extremely invested in the history of Dachau. His knowledge base greatly added to the experience. He kept it factual but the story emotional. Very powerful tour. One thing I would warn - you will not get to see everything in this amount of time. If you are a history buff, I would recommend going again by yourself. You won't get to read all of the signs. Scott really made up for this though, and involved us in the whole, true story.
