Know More about this tour

Start your Munich Old Town tour with a pickup from your central hotel or alternatively, meet your private guide near Munich Central Station. Then, set off to explore the medieval streets while learning about the city’s fascinating history and culture. If there’s something you want to know more about, simply let your guide know; your tour is private so your itinerary can be tailored to your interests.

A city of many names, Munich has been called the heart of medieval Europe, the Athens of the Alps and beer capital of the world – each name indicating its different identities throughout history. Each sight on your tour comes with a story, so follow your guide around the city and learn all about its famous attractions.

Visit pretty Marienplatz, the central city square since the 1100s, and admire the town hall with its glockenspiel that re-enacts stories from the 16th century. Stop for photos by the Cathedral of Our Blessed Lady (Frauenkirche), Munich’s iconic red-roofed cathedral that was bombed during WWII, and wander around one of city’s oldest places of worship: St. Peter’s Church (Peterskirche).

Pass through the food market of Victuals Market (Viktualienmarkt) with its brightly colored stalls and peer in the windows of Hofbräuhaus – the must-visit beer hall while in town. Stop at the former royal palace of Bavarian monarchs, Munich Residenz, and then pass into the square of Odeonsplatz where Adolf Hitler made his first push for power during the infamous ‘beer hall putsch.’

After 2.5 hours exploring the city, work your way back to the start point (either your hotel or the station), and then bid your guide goodbye.

  • Walking tour was a great way to get acquainted with the city of Munich. Jax the tour guide (Radius Tours) did a great job of explaining the history of the city while showing our group the highlights of the area. Great tour.

  • Once we got going, we had a great tour with Verena. Our voucher indicated we were to meet at the Radius Tours office in the Hauptbahnhof train station, but she was waiting for us at our hotel. It was not that far, but probably cut 15 minutes off of our tour. Verena was very well informed and her English was great. We learned about the history of the city as well as some of the fun stuff beer gardens and May poles.

    I would recommend this tour.

  • A nice walk through the heart of the historical area of Munich. Our tour leader was extremely friendly and knowledgeable gladly addressing any and all questions we had.

  • Great tour, extremely knowledgeable tour guide, a wonderful insight into Munich history. Recommended.

  • This was exceptional! Our guide, Anja was outstanding, providing tons of historical details, recommendations on fantastic places to dine and just providing an overall unforgettable experience.

  • Personal tour allows you to have a 'friend' from the city who walked where you wanted to go.

  • Franka was wonderful...taking us around and sharing her love and passion of her city with us. Wonderful to see the city through her eyes and gain a different perspective on Munich.

  • The small group setting was ideal for this tour. Patrick, a native Municher with an academic interest in history, made an ideal guide. He had numeours anecdotes and insights to share, which made the buildings and alleyways of Munich's Old Town come alive. His droll sense of humor also helped a lot. Highly recommended as a way to get into, yet remain a little apart from, the touristic bustle in the center of the city.

  • Excellent. Our guide Daniel was very knowledgeable and energetic. Would highly recommend this tour.

  • never happened the tour guide never showed at the hotel. I emailed while in Germany to Viator and have not gotten a response in days.
