Overview

Experience Jordans greatest ancient treasure on this private day trip to Petra from Amman. After traveling from Amman to Petra with a private driver, enjoy a 2-hour guided tour of UNESCO-listed Petra: a rock city cut into a sandstone valley some 2,000 years ago. Walk or ride a horse along the Siq entrance canyon, and behold the rose-tinted Treasury, Royal Tombs, and more. During your explorations, learn about Petras history from your local guide and see lesser-known Little Petra, whose sculpted rock buildings were a suburb of the main city.

Know More about this tour

You will leave the hotel early in the morning to drive south to the Nabatean Red Rose City of Petra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, for a classic visit. As you travel, gaze at the desert landscapes and hear tales of Jordan’s history. Hewn into a sandstone valley carved by the Nabataean people more than 2,000 years ago, this ancient rose-red rock city located 245 kilometers from Amman at the crossroads of age-old trading routes, to dominate ancient Arabia. Reach Petra main site to learn more about its magnificent history. On arrival, leave your vehicle, and enjoy a 2-hour tour of this UNESCO Heritage listed wonder with a local guide
First, walk through the famous “Siq”, a narrow path of 1.2 kilometers; rock fissure that was once the main entrance to the city, and marvel at your first glimpse of the hauntingly beautiful Treasury “El - Khazneh”
as the canyon suddenly opens up. Admire this rose-pink masterpiece, originally built to house priceless treasures and capture it on camera. Then, proceed through the widening canyon to witness other monuments such as the 3,000-seater Theater, the Royal Tombs, and the Byzantine Church. As you explore, listen as your guide describes how the Nabateans sculpted the buildings, and learn how they mastered the harsh desert conditions to make their lives here. After around two hours of exploring, enjoy free time. If time permits you can climb up the Monastery on your own or the High Place of Sacrifice: a clifftop altar that was once used for animal sacrifices and other ceremonies.
Free time to visit The Petra Museum; if there is time, then rejoin your vehicle and driver. Pass by Little Petra, a small rocky valley with carvings, that archaeologists believe acted as the Nabatean’s caravan before heading to the main city and as an accommodation stop for the traders who traveled through the city. Then, journey back to Amman, where your day trip ends with a hotel drop off. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring a sunhat for this unforgettable adventure. Come and explore one of the world’s wonders of architectural engineering combined with the ingenuity of carving for an unforgettable adventure just like that of Indiana Jones and the Transformers!

Incredible experience! Cannot recommend this tour enough. Our local guide in Petra, called Joseph, was the absolute best! We didn't realise just how big Petra is so ended up staying on with Joseph after the tour finished just after the Treasury building (around 2.5hrs - we started at midday) and spent another 8hrs with him walking up to the view point of the Treasury from above and then over to the Monastery with the 800 steps ascent and decent! Then we returned to the Treasury for the Petra by Night Show. Both my Mum and I said it was one of the best days ever and felt like a real adventure - we covered every part of Petra in that one day! Joseph was so accommodating and flexed the tour to whatever we wanted to do and was very knowledgeable about all of Petra. Our driver from Amman was also very nice and accommodating - we asked before the tour to pay extra to stay over night in Wadi Musa so we could cover all of Petra in one day and see Petra by Night - which would highly recommend! Also make sure you bring trainers/walking shoes as there is quite a big distance to cover if you want to see all the way from the Siq to the Monastery (we walked 13miles over the 10/11 hours we were with Joseph!) and bring snacks but there are places to buy drinks and snacks in Petra too. Honestly the best trip would highly recommend both the driver and Joseph our tour guide, and recommend extending the tour while with the guide to see all of Petra if you can!

My driver and my guide were excellent considerate very helpful and I appreciate their helpfulness , however The company'sold me my tickets under false pretenses and did not live up to their written agreement, that cost me an extra 100 JD upon my arrival at Petra.

What a fascinating place to visit. Hassan was our guide for the second day in a row and he took great care of us. We arrived at Petra at 10 am (~3 hours from Amman with stops for coffee and breakfast) and spent 4.5 hours within Petra with our local expert guide Ahmed. We learned so much about the Nabatean culture and history and we’re amazed by it all. We were very fortunate with the weather and the crowds were lighter than normal allowing for some amazing pictures along the way. We were asked many times to ride horses, donkeys and camels but a simple “no, shouk ran” or no, thank you was sufficient and we did not feel pestered at all (contrary to what we heard before we arrived in Jordan). We highly recommend this tour and next time, we’ll do it for multiple days and make time for the long climb to the monastery. Btw- much easier is a walk up to the Royal Tombs and you will be glad that you did.

I took this trip alone as I was only briefly visiting Jordan on my way to visit friends in Qatar. My guide (Hasan) was amazing. He was very friendly and professional, and I felt safe at all times, especially as a woman traveling alone. He did a great job setting expectations for the day and allowed me to curate my own trip. I decided to shorten my time in Petra to allow a to visit Wadi Rum (an extra cost) as well. Upon arrival to Petra, you are assigned a separate guide to escort you through the site. It's done on a rolling basis, so it's pretty much the luck of the draw. My guide was ok, and nice but not very memorable. Hasan was great again because he let this guide know exactly what my plans were. Make sure to have enough local currency as there are many shops inside Petra (overpriced, so I'd recommend buying souvenirs before or after the complex). Once inside Petra, there are also opportunities to take a golf cart, horse or donkey on certain paths to limit walking. I highly recommend paying one of the many local boys who will offer to take you to the "high view" of the Treasury. You will definitely need some level of mobile agility to make it to the top but well worth the quick climb as you get a seemingly private bird's eye view of this world wonder.

This was truly a trip of a lifetime that we will cherish in a fun and friendly country. Petra is much bigger than I expected with so much to see and I am glad we enjoyed hiking because we got our exercise! The only way to improve this tour is to spend more days at Petra. This was our third day with tour guide Amer who quickly learned our preferences. We opted to skip Little Petra but chose to visit Montreal castle. We enjoyed hiking around Petra and had a helpful local guide that Amer selected. Our local guide and Amer gave us advice on how to manage our time. Since we brought snacks, we chose not to eat in Petra but try Mansaf lamb on the way back to Amman. Amer helpfully called ahead to make sure the restaurant would have Mansaf at our estimated arrival time. We are so grateful to Amer, our local guide, and Zaid tours for creating such a memorable day!

Would not recommend this tour. It was over 400 US dollars. When we arrived, the driver found a local tour guide and paid him, essentially from the 400 I paid for the tour. The driver took almost 4 hours to get there from Amman and almost 4 hours to get back. At times I think he was driving slow to stretch the time. There were protests going on so I understand the caution. But again, at times it seemed like he was purposely going slow. I only had 3 hours in Petra. I felt rushed and did not get to see everything. The tour guide took me as far as the restaurant, had lunch and then he left. Very misleading. I would have been better off hiring a driver to go myself and paying for my own ticket once I got there. Not sure what Little Petra is so I can’t comment on it. My recommendation , take a cheaper tour or hire your own driver. You don’t need a tour guide for Petra. Everything is well laid out and between the visitor center and the Museum, they can answer any questions. There are maps everywhere as well. I believe the tour guide was rushing because I was alone so he probably figured his tip wouldn’t be as big as with a larger party. I actually planned on tipping him but he left so fast and unexpectedly, I didn’t get a chance. Both the tour guide and the driver were nice but I just think this day trip is overpriced. Definitely not worth 400 US dollars.

We booked a day trip to Petra from Amman. We were lucky to have Khaled as our driver. He picked us up from our Airbnb, which was located in a complicated area. He waited 30mins for us until we finally found each other and still made sure our trip was complete despite the late start. He gave us plenty of information about the area and surrounding countries during our drive, and was such a pleasure to hang out with. We even got to try a traditional Jordanian meal at a restaurant recommended by Khaled which made our trip even better! He made sure our tour guide knew when and where we needed to meet him after the tour and took care of us the whole time. Our trip wouldn’t have been the same without him. Thank you Khaled!

The whole day was incredible. Tarek was a great driver and we had a wonderful time with him. And the tour guide we met at Petra was fantastic and very informative.
