Meet your bilingual tour manager and driver in Santa Maria Novella train stationand board a comfortable full equipped vehicle.
Youwill start driving to Loro Ciuffenna, one of the most distinctive towns of the Valdarno Superiore, which is located on the slopes of the southern ridge of Pratomagno at an elevation of 320mt.Much of the town centre is medieval in architecture, and you may view the ruins of a large water-powered mill, dating from before 1200 AD, that until quite recently produced chestnut and other flours. Once we have finished our visit in Loro Ciuffena we will keep driving through these medieval gorgeous tiny villages full off hidden secrets.
Every village is well known for its local products like "Schiacciata" which is an amazing white pizza - the best white pizza in Tuscany. Here we will stop for a delicious authentic Tuscan lunch composed of a massive Antipasto full of local food, follow by dessert, and a lots of wine. We will end our trip below the summit of Pratomagno mountain around 4:00pm. From here we will walk for 15 minutes to reach the top(up a fairly steep incline with some uneven surfaces, which may not be suitable for all abilities. For those who do not wish to partake in this part of the trip, you can enjoy and relax yourself in the peaceful picnic area while you await our return). At the top of the mountain you will see the famous giant christian cross, symbol of the mountain and a tribute to Saint Francisco, as well as an amazing view right out over Tuscany. Itwas here that the Australian explorer and WWI hero Herbert John Louis Hinkler crashed in his attempt to fly from England to Australia. The Pratomagno mountain range is believed to have been under the sea approximately 5 million years ago.
The lawns, or the ridge of the Pratomagno, appear with different scenographies according to the light and season change: the soft green scattered with so many kinds of flowers in spring, rich yellow in summer, the warm colours in autumn, the snow and the transparency of the air in winter. The Pratomagno isalso a very good place for mushrooms and other natural fruits, as well as the cinghiale (wild boar) running free.
After this remarkable experience we will take you down to the mountain to the train station in Figline Valdarno at 6:00pm where you can catch the train back to Florence.
