Know More about this tour

After hotel pickup by your private guide, head about an hour northeast of Mexico City to Teotihuacan. Known as the City of the Gods, Teotihuacan was one of the largest and most important pre-Aztec cities in Mexico, home to nearly 200,000 people from several ancient cultures.

Explore the archeological site’s pyramids, plazas and palaces with your archeologist guide, who is able to give you all kinds of expert information about Teotihuacan’s physical and cultural history and answer any questions you have during your tour about buildings like the Temple of Quetzalcoatl and the Palace of Quetzalpapalotl. Hear stories about the ancient people who lived here and news about the latest archeological discoveries. See large murals, and walk along the Avenue of the Dead (Calle de los Muertos), a 1.5-mile (2.4-km) road that connects the main structures, including the Pyramid of the Moon and Pyramid of the Sun.

The Pyramid of the Moon and the Pyramid of the Sun are Teotihuacan’s most famous — and largest — structures, and you have the opportunity to climb them, if you wish, for outstanding views of the whole city.

After your tour, head back to Mexico City, stopping by an obsidian workshop on the way to meet a local family and enjoy tastings of tequila, mescal and liqueurs made from native cactus. You may also purchase lunch here, if you like. Your day trip ends with hotel drop-off.

  • Ligia was a very knowledgable tour guide who knew all of her facts. She allowed us to alter the schedule to fit our needs and we were allowed to spend a little more time doing the things we wanted to do and see. Great tour!

  • A MUST!

  • Great value for price. It is not cheap but worth every cent! With the private tour experience we were able to see all we wanted, take our time, clarify our questions and avoid too much time shopping

  • This private tour was amazing! Our archeologist was extremely knowledgeable and personable. We learned so much that was both interesting and fascinating, giving us a new appreciation for the cultures in this area of Mexico.

  • The trip was good, but there were a few hiccups. First, we would have liked to know we were being picked up by an Uber driver and not our actual tour guide. Second, the tour guide we were told we had the day before and the tour guide we got were not the same person. Third, while our guide's English skills were good, there were certainly things his skills were insufficient to explain. Fourth, while our guide was clearly knowledgeable about archaeology, he struck me more as a well educated amateur rather than a truly trained archaeologist. For the price we paid we should have gotten a trained archaeologist. Finally, restaurant we were dropped off at for lunch was extremely expensive. The food was good, but nearly 60 USD for lunch for two people is exorbitant even by Mexico City standards we were not drinking alcohol, so that was not a factor in the price. All in all I'm still glad we did a private tour rather than a group tour, but for 270 USD we should have had a better guide and a few options about where to go for lunch.

  • We enjoyed seeing the pyramids. However, the guide was NOT an archeologist, as advertised. That was a great disappointment. We were eager to have an archeologist guide us through the pyramids at Teotichuacan. Our guide was trained in tourism and business, with no degree or training in archeology.

  • My wife and I have gone on may tours round the world: this was the best one. Our personal archeologist, Carlos, was extremely knowledgeable and very passionate about every aspect of the Aztec life. We felt that we learned so much from him. The site was amazing, and getting there early meant that we had the whole place to ourselves for the first hour I mean, literally to our selves. The tour was conducted at our own pace. We had all the time in the world to take photos, videos, chat, climb the pyramids, and ask questions... lots and lots of questions, all of which Carlos was only to pleased to answer and elaborate on. This trip was the highlight of our vacation, and well exceeded our expectations.

  • The pyramids were amazing to see, but the tour could have benefited from a guide with stronger English language skills. I tried to make up for the lack of clear explanation by reading the English language signs around the site, but the guide wouldn't seem to let me stop! Better than if I'd turned up to the site on my own by taxi, but otherwise quite an expensive tour in relation to its value. I had the impression the guide wasn't quite an archaeologist after all, but perhaps their knowledge and skills would have been more apparent if I'd been a fluent Spanish speaker.

  • Our guides were fantastic, they went above and beyond.

  • Tour was fantastic. I have seen several sites around the world and this rates up there with them. The early morning start (6:30am) is a must and highly recommend a private tour. Less crowded and cooler when you start early
