Know More about this tour

After hotel pickup by your private guide, head about an hour northeast of Mexico City to Teotihuacan. Known as the City of the Gods, Teotihuacan was one of the largest and most important pre-Aztec cities in Mexico, home to nearly 200,000 people from several ancient cultures.

Explore the archeological sites pyramids, plazas and palaces with your archeologist guide, who is able to give you all kinds of expert information about Teotihuacans physical and cultural history and answer any questions you have during your tour about buildings like the Temple of Quetzalcoatl and the Palace of Quetzalpapalotl. Hear stories about the ancient people who lived here and news about the latest archeological discoveries. See large murals, and walk along the Avenue of the Dead (Calle de los Muertos), a 1.5-mile (2.4-km) road that connects the main structures, including the Pyramid of the Moon and Pyramid of the Sun.

The Pyramid of the Moon and the Pyramid of the Sun are Teotihuacans most famous and largest structures, and you have the opportunity to climb them, if you wish, for outstanding views of the whole city.

After your tour, head back to Mexico City, stopping by an obsidian workshop on the way to meet a local family and enjoy tastings of tequila, mescal and liqueurs made from native cactus. You may also purchase lunch here, if you like. Your day trip ends with hotel drop-off.

  • The tour was Wonderful. Our guide Lulu was the BEST. She was like family. The tour was amazing, shopping was great and our lunch with real local delicacies was without words to describe.
Lulu made this trip the BEST TIME IN MEXICO CITY. THANKS LULU.

  • Carlos was excellent!

  • It was a truly outstanding tour. The guide, Ligia, was knowledgeable, gave us plenty of time, and responded to questions with a friendly and caring attitude. This was one of the best tours I have experienced in the 49 countries I have visited. My nephew and brother were very impressed and pleased. I had invited them to learn more about the history and culture of Mexico and they were sincerely impressed. The vehicle was comfortable and she drove in a safe manner. There was nothing to be disappointed in during the tour, and it has provided many cherished memories.

  • Fantastic tour, our guide Lulu C. was very, very knowledgeable and a lot of fun to be with. She wanted to and did every thing she could to make our tour extra special. We are fascinated with pre columbian culture and have been on many tours of ruins over the years. This tour with Lulu was one of the top ones we experienced. Knowing that we like we like to experience the local culture and food when traveling, Lulu suggested a few of the local dishes, which we tried. A fun, special day it was. Thanks

  • Spent the day with a most knowledgable and informative tour guide. Thanks Lulu!

Just to be clear, the tour guide is not a certified archeologist, but not sure that matters with the amount of information provided to us. I'm not sure if Viator is aware that by advertising this tour with an Archeologist, they are committing false advertising. I have yet to find a review where someone said they actually did have a tour with an Archeologist. So, if you simply must have an Archeologist, I suggest you contact the Mexico supplier and ask them specifically for an Archeologist. I tried to verify this beforehand but was unable to do so.

We were picked up up at the hotel right on time and drove out to Teotihuacan area, about an hour drive. After we visited a couple of the sites, we stopped to enjoy the box lunches I had ordered for all of us including the tour guide from the hotel. That gave us the flexibility of eating what and when we desired. We returned to the hotel at a reasonable time for a little rest, since we needed some down time before the theater reservations we had that evening. Fun day.

In any case our tour guide was very friendly, spoke quite good English and generally provided a wonderful experience. Since it really was a private tour, we were able to set our own timetable and were not restricted to a bus or specific tour schedule. Really worth the extra cost for a private tour!

  • Very good time. Informative guide, and the site was amazing. Oldest I have ever seen to date!
The private tour was a great option given that time was a factor for us. It certainly costs much more than a group tour, but not having to worry about where to meet the guide made planning easier and saved us time the day of the tour. As well, we wanted to get back to DF ASAP, so we skipped lunch near the site and some other small info sessions and headed back to the city right after wrapping up at Teotihuacan. Since the tour was private, we were at liberty to shorten it as we saw fit after many hours were spent at Teotihuacan.

  • The tour was interesting. Our guide, Lulu, came on time and drove well. Her knowledge was reasonable but she lacked enthusiasm.

  • Our trip to Teotihuacan pyramids was phenomenal. Yes this is more expensive than taking the public bus, but we had an SUV with aircon and our very own English speaking guide to make the most of our visit there. The day before we went to the Archaeology museum in town and we kept on saying how much more it would have meant with someone explaining the significance and story behind pieces - on this trip we got just that. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and we saw a lot more than people just walking around the site.

We also booked an early tour, leaving at 7am, which meant that when we got there it wasn't crawling with tourists - I would definitely recommend an early start.

What the private tour also offered us was changing the day as it worked for us - we were leaving for the airport in the afternoon so we were able to change the times and other activities which we would not have been able to do on a group tour.

We left 7am and we were back at the hotel at 1pm, with plenty time to pack and make it to the airport.

Definitely worth the visit and the extra money - highly recommended :-

  • I am so glad we booked a tour of Teotihuacan with Freddie! Best tour we've ever taken! We learned so much more than would have been possible unguided, met local people and had experiences that were far beyond our expectations. Looking forward to coming back to Mexico City and booking other tours with Freddie!

  • The tour of the pyramids was great. Not sure if our guide was an archaeologist, but she was very informative. Called the night before to confirm reservations for private tour and pick up time. Van showed up on time but there were others in the van. Why did I pay extra money for private tour if you dont honor it. Was told it would take at least an hour to get another van to pick us up for the tour. Hopped oin the van with my group of 8. Pyramids was great. Had enough time to walk around and explore. After that, went to was ok. Then we all wanted to go back to hotel to rest and lay out by the pool. Oh wait, we couldnt cause now we had to wait for the other party to wrap up the rest of their tour. Wasted about 2 hours of time sitting around.
