Overview
Guatape , this eastern Antioquia municipality, located an hour and a half from Medellin, opens a world of color among its streets, adorned with baseboards that tell stories of the town and its people. They also call it the interior sea of Antioquia, the Acapulco of Colombia, the interior Cartagena, Paraso Paisa, Remanso de Paz, the heart of Antioquia's East. It was named in honor of Cacique Guatap, an inhabitant of this territory in the pre-Hispanic period. Another name he has had is the Ceja de Guatap. The Rock of Guatap or Piedra del Peol, is a monolith 220 meters high located in Guatap (Antioquia, Colombia). The Stone of El Peol, composed of quartz, feldspar and mica, was climbed for the first time on July 16, 1954 by an inhabitant of the area, Luis Eduardo Villegas Lpez. in the company of Ramon Diaz and Pedro Nel Ramrez until now the stone still belongs to the Villegas family. You can now access its summit by climbing 740 steps built in the monolith.

El guia fue muy atento durante todo el viaje, y demostro gran conocimiento de la historia del Café. Las vistas desde la cima del Peñol son maravillosas, vale el esfuerzo para subir.

“I like rock. Rock big. We go rock. You rock go” - this is how our guide communicated with us. To make the matters worst, we pointed out to him in the beginning of the trip that his car was leaking coolant. He replied: “no worry, car go rock”. On the way back we broke down in the middle of busy highway.

Jorge was communicative and accommodating, he reached out early to confirm pick up details and itinerary. He was accommodating with our requests which is the whole point of a private tour, and he gave us enough time and flexibility to enjoy the sites and foods. Lots of treats and he was very informative and a good partner for the day. Thank you!

The whole day with our tour guide Edgar Rivera was fantastic. He provided us with a great tour! Guatape shouldn’t be missed we started with general understanding of our day followed by a stop for a local snack! Some site seeing and breakfast followed! Going to Guatape and climbing the rock was invigorating and exhausting. It followed with a visit into town for a walk through the village and the church. Then a local lunch of churrisco! We then went on an hour boat ride learning about Pablo Escobar and other history. Before coming back to the city!

Our tour with Hector was incredible! His English is great, he’s well known in all the spots we went to, he was knowledgeable, attentive and great company. I highly recommend the private tour as the other group tours were in large busses and it did not look like a pleasant way to go about. I don’t think we would have had the same experience if we hadn’t booked with this agency.

Our trip to Guatape was incredible. Our tour guide Jorge was incredible. He was very informative and funny. Unfortunately, do to some personal matter, he had to cut our trip short. Jorge was super flexible and understanding. He made sure we got back in time. Although our trip was short, we had such a blast and I will never forget about this wonderful experience!

We did a private day tour with Hector and it was a highlight of our stay in Medellin! Guatape and the countryside was beautiful. Hector was very helpful in finding us local foods and drinks we had been wanting to try. He knew a ton about the history of Colombia so it really helped us learn more about the region and give context to the tour. He spent time in the states so his English was also great and easy to understand. Would definitely recommend this tour!

This tour was worth every climb of all 700 steps! The view up there is absolutely gorgeous. Celene and Sergio provided the best service. Celene made sure we were well set up for our pick up and had all the details needed for a smooth day. Sergio was an amazing guide! He made the hour or so drive so entertaining with all his knowledge and background of the country and culture. He was professional and kind. I would strongly recommend booking this tour with them!
