While the commune architecture is interesting the best part of this trip is the private access to the Wall. We were there alone!!

We had chosen this tour because we wanted to avoid big crowds and cable cars/lifts. We were picked up at the hotell by the guide Albert and his driver. The car was very nice and we had an interesting drive to the Wall by the Commune. Albert pointed out places of interest along the way, and made sure we could see the Bird Nest (Olympics 2008). When we arrived at the Commune, we had a stroll and a look at the architecture of the different houses comprising the Commune. From the Commune the climb to the wall was approximately 2 km long, steep, but not difficult. Albert and his driver were both helpful and attentive, and made sure we did not slip or stumble (on the way down). They also offered to carry our bags. Once on the top, there was plenty of time to walk along the top of this part of the wall. The view from the wall and watchtower was splendid, and allowed for great photos. At the wall we only met two other visitors, and this solitude gave an extra dimension to our experience. The day tour gave ample opportunity to talk with our guide, Albert. Besides being well informed about the Wall and Chinese history in general, he willingly answered our questions about Chinese culture and everyday lifte. He gave us an interesting insight into how young Chinese may look at the new possibilities in the country. His english was very good, and he was very friendly and forthcoming. This visit was one of the highlights of our 4 week travel in Russia and China.
