3/5 is a little high for our experience of two catamaran trips with Island Tours from Sandals South Beach. “Average” puts our experience too high compared to other cat trips elsewhere, but “poor” is too harsh, considering how much we loved one of the trips. 2.5 would work. The good: At trip to Floyd’s Pelican Bar - not too long a ride and the crew were ok - with a couple of exceptions - a really miserable bartender who seemed fairly contemptuous of guests wanting a drink, and a friendly but not very proficient on-board photographer (from whom we bought precisely zero shots after the trips - ours / passers-by on our phones were better quality). What made the trip good was the Pelican Bar itself - unique place in our travelling experience that easily lived up to our pre-trip expectations. The not so good: Reggae Sunset trip - The route wasn’t particularly interesting, a mid-trip turnaround in a supposedly historic cove sounded like an advert for other Sandals tours and properties - of course Sandals needs to promote itself, just don’t badge it as anything else. - the same bartender and photographer as in the previous trip - no less miserable or better at the job, respectively - a reggae- branded trip with less than 50% reggae music played on the boat - instead mainly US party pop & country - nothing wrong with that, it’s just a different trip.

Quite disappointing for the money. Crew was friendly - that was a plus! No effort by captain to put up sails even though conditions could have allowed. Captain more interested in honking & waving to people on shore than providing us with an actual tour & sailing experience. Food also disappointing. Thankfully, other passengers made the best of it with us, but a lot of sad faces.

The catamaran ride to and from Pelican Bay was beautiful. The crew was professional and were excellent hosts. Music, dancing and drinks flowing continuously. Pelican Bay is a rustic grassy hut in the middle of the water accessible only by boat. It is filled with various memorabilia of past visitors. Lots of flags, patches, stickers and license plates + tons of names and dates carved on its wooden planks ( feel free to add to it). Once you arrive they take a food (@ $25 per plate of fish, shrimp, lobster or chicken-all plentiful and delicious) and drink order ($6-$7 or $8). They you can swim, relax in or out of the sun. Spend a few hours then back to the catamaran. All in all it was an interesting day. Enjoy!
