Know More about this tour

Your guide will pick you up from your Avignon hotel and then drive you north by minibus into the heart of the Rhône Valley. The area as a whole is split into several different appellations -- each with their own distinct viniculture traditions.

The first stop of your day is at a wine property in the Tavel region, famous for its production of deep pink-colored rosé wines. On a tour of the estate, learn about the terroir (characteristics of the local environment) that influences the taste and color of Tavel wines, and then sample a selection of the best, noting the crisp dry flavors that make these exquisite wines so prized.

Continue to another wine estate, just to the east of Tavel, in the renowned Châteauneuf-du-Pape region. Producing arguably the most famous wine in France, the area is also where the Appellation d'Origine Controlée (AOC) regulations originated. Products with this prestigious AOC label are guaranteed to be of a high quality and are prevalent throughout the entire Rhône Valley region.

On a tour of the property, learn about the strict AOC rules that the region’s wine estates must follow in order to produce these sumptuously rich wines, and then sample a few glasses with your guide. As you savor the complex fruity flavors that characterize Châteauneuf-du-Papes, you’ll realize why this beautiful wine remains virtually unmatched around the world.

Your tour finishes back at your Avignon hotel in the early evening.

  • If all you did on this tour was taste Taval it would be 5 stars. The rest is icing on the cake.

  • Really fun tour. Guide was great and very knowledgable. There were 3 couple including us and it was a great group.

  • Small group tour of two wineries. Drive/tour guide was knowledgeable and nice. He picked us up right on time in Avignon and the van was comfortable and had air conditioning. Would recommend.

  • Pick up and driver were good. Chateaunuf with in house talk and wine store vist was excellent. Travel was just a tasting run by driver/guide could have done with more detail there.

  • We really enjoyed this tour mainly because our tour guide Nicolas was very knowledgeable and engaging. He told us interesting history and fun stories. The wineries we visited were very nice and it happened to be the perfect length of tour, as more than 2 tasting locations would have put me to sleep. The scenery was beautiful and we even stopped on the way to take pictures at a historical place with a great view of the valley. I highly recommend this tour if this you are new to Avignon and want to know about the wine and history of the region!

  • This was an excellent wine tour! Got picked up in nice SUV near hotel. A small group of 7. Saw some amazing scenery, in addition to a great wine tasting at a winery which had a long history. Interesting tour earning about the casks of various size and age. Thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this activity.

  • Wonderful visit to two wineries. Beautiful countryside. Guide showed us vineyards in addition to going to two different sites. The C-d-P site included an informative tour of the facility.

  • Excellent tour. Julien was great and gave us a real insider's look at the vineyards and wineries. It was like spending an afternoon with a friend you've come to visit who is proudly showing you around his piece of the world. Both wineries were very interesting and Alexandre was most informative about the process of turning grape juice into fine wine and production of wine barrels as he showed us around Tavel's cellars.

  • Fabulous tour guide - knew his stuff, was from the region, spoke English well. Kept us moving but didn't rush us.
Stops at Tavel, Chateauneuf du Pape, both great. Fun tastings.

  • The tour was exceptionally well paced. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and personable. We loved the wines and learned a lot about the wine making process.
