Know More about this tour

This full-day Rio tour combines two of our top-selling Rio de janeiro tours into one epic adventure! Experience both our Santa Teresa Discovery and Corcovado, Christ Statue and Copacabana Tour in this jam-packed day that shows you all the sites you'll want to see.On this tour we'll explore the iconic Christ the redeemer statue, see what local life is really like in Copacabana, travel around the city like a local, experience the Bohemian vibe in the Santa Teresa neighbourhood and drink in some pretty epic views of the city.

First up - downtown! While this is mostly a Rio walking tour, we'll start with a little public transit, shall we? Take the subway downtown so you can experience how locals get around Rio and help orientate yourself in the city. We'll hop off at Carioca Station and wander through the Financial District, home of huge companies such as Petrobras and BNDES. Check out Carioca Square, once the main source of drinking water in Rio, transported in by the Aqueducts of Lapa. From here, we'll climb aboard the tram for the journey up to Santa Teresa, which involves a stunning 20 minute ride over the aqueducts. This is the last tram line in Brazil that is used solely for transportation purposes. Hopping off at Largo dos Guimaraes, it's time to explore the cobblestone streets of Santa Teresa! We'll wander about on foot and discover beautiful architecture, art galleries, restaurants and the local costumes that characterise Santa Teresa.

Previously a neighbourhood dominated by the elite, with their departure to more modern suburbs of Rio, Santa Teresa has been transformed into an artistic centre with many artists choosing the area as their preferred place of residence. Among the attractions in Santa Teresa is the Ruins Park and its gorgeous view over downtown Rio de janeiro and Guanabara Bay. As our time in Santa Teresa winds down, we have one final (and rather important) stop to make: Selaron's Staircase. This masterpiece and picturesque icon is one of the late artist's most famous pieces and is without a doubt one of the highlights of this Rio tour.

Our Rio tour will continue with an incredible bird's eye view of the city from the base of the Statue of Christ. This enormous white statue keeps constant watch over Rio, offering sweeping 360 degree views of the citys natural wonders: beaches, lagoons, forests, bays, and mountains that seem to rise from the ocean. Its no wonder that the Cristo statue was selected as one of the new seven wonders of the world. Next, its time to trade in this tourist icon for something less visited, the back streets of the Copacabana and Leme neighborhoods. Accompanied by your local Urban Adventures guide, you'll wander through the area tasting local snacks, sipping refreshing beer and learning all about its lifestyle and beach culture.

Please note: The order of the attractions visited and the transportation taken might change to better suit the logistics of the day

Itinerary:

Please note: We are sensitive to the issues and concerns surrounding favelas, and we understand that this tour may not be suitable for everyone. We strongly believe that the purpose of this tour is for educational reasons alone and allows for a better understanding of Brazilian life inside a favela. Furthermore, the tour operator has an agreement with the local tourism committee of the Santa Marta favela, and proceeds from your tour help support the local community day care called Creche Comunitária Mundo Infantil.

Even though I was the only one to sign up that day, Urban Adventures, the contracted tour company didn't cancel the tour. I had the guide, Lorena (Lola), as my person guide. The tour is a nice balance of walking and sightseeing, and Lola was very knowledgeable and patient. She was a very pleasant companion for the day and I feel like a learned a lot about the city and its history along with seeing the highlights. Sugar Loaf is not included, but would have made for too long of a day and that can easily be toured separately without a guide.

We had a great trip of Rio with guide Ivan of Urban Adventures. It was a private tour based on the use of public transportation: metro, tram and minibuses.Ivan is very knowledgeable and friendly. Throughout the tour he made an effort to convey to us his deep love to his city. This was particularly obvious in fascinating suburb Santa Teresa where he grew up.The tour started at 9 in the morning and lasted till 6 pm and was a pleasure from the beginning till the end.I have no hesitation to recommend it to everyone who wants a deeper inside into this fascinating city

This was the best tour I took while in Rio. It was a lot of walking but it worth it. You get the full experience of being immersed in the local culture.

This tour was good, however, it was a very long day, and because you are catching public transport, it is very busy and squashy on the subway, there is a lot of walking and standing which can be uncomfortable. Our guide, Julieanna was great and very knowledgeable, it was just us on the tour, so it was very intimate.

Everything about this tour was spot on perfect. Juliana, our guide, was knowledgeable, fun and warm. We had a group of 12, including two young kids, and she related well to everyone. Although the tour was publicized as one using public transportation, we had our own van and driver given that the group was maximum size. Three cheers to the tour company for that because it made it much easier for Juliana to keep all of us in check.

There was so much to see on this tour and it was hard to come up with a highlight. A special word about the Favela, however. We were warned by our cruise ship that the Favelas were dangerous and should be avoided and we contacted the tour company with our concern. They told us that they had never had a problem, and we were SO GLAD that we decided to visit. First, this Favela is special. Michael Jackson filmed a portion of his They Don't Care About Us video there and there is tremendous pride in the Favela there in part because they were made famous. Also, we had tour tour guides who are from the Favela who were thoughtful, informative and warm. Visitors should know that the local tour guides in the Favela are paid by the tour company and that a portion of our tour fee is also paid to the Favela, so there is an incentive for the tour there to be safe. We'd strongly recommend the tour, including the Favela, to anyone - especially if they're lucky enough to get Juliana as their guide!

It could be chilly up the hill as the visit to the Corcovado Mountain was at the end of the tour towards sunset. Recommend to bring something warm to wear.

My guide was very kind and friendly! I was given plenty of recommendations for the city.

A great full day tour with Juliana who was a first class guide around Rio. We would thoroughly recommend this - the walk around Santa Marta Favela was particularly interesting where the addition of a local guide from the Favela gave even more insight into living in the Favela’s.

This was a great tour. Our tour guide Juliana was very knowledgeable and has the perfect personality for this type of work. I would highly recommend this tour. You see many of the highlights of Rio and some out of the way places too. It was interesting to see the beauty of Santa Teresa and also the grittiness of the Santa Marta Favela. The views from the Christ the Redeemer statue are not to be missed!
