10/10 would definitely recommend booking Awapuhi Adventures. My fiance and I wanted to do Road to Hana during our semi-short stay and decided a tour would likely be the way to make the most of it. We went with the full day private tour with Awapuhi Adventures and it was more than worth the cost with Matt as our guide! You can tell he really loves Maui and wants other people to love it and enjoy themselves too. We booked the medium activity version, which included light hiking, and we only had one specific request to see Red Sand Beach. The rest of the time we were pretty much open to his suggestions and whatever else we found along the way. We got all the greatest hits plus a few fun surprises and the specific request. He never rushed us and made sure to adjust our tour based on things we spent more/less time at while also keeping an eye on the weather. This being a private tour meant we weren't beholden to anyone's schedules or interests except our own and it was fantastic. Meeting him at a location instead of being picked up also gave us some extra time so we got a very full day. Matt is extremely personable and full of all kinds of interesting information about the area and different sites. He's also a great conversationalist and can chat about pretty much anything. In general, he knew when to guide and when to let us safely wander a bit on our own. He also got a lot of different pictures and videos for us that were full of little details or moments we wouldn't be able to get otherwise; Bonus points for being able to airdrop them immediately at the end of the tour so we didn't have to wait. The ride itself was also very, very comfortable and he showed up with little extras that we might need (towels, reef safe sunscreen, water, cooler, etc). We're used to driving mountain roads but we felt very safe with Matt driving since he knew the roads and their customs which meant we got to enjoy the trip without having to hyper focus on narrow and unfamiliar roads. I'd like to also give a shout out to him because I have two separate invisible disabilities and he was very, very gracious about them. He genuinely didn't seem bothered and I feel like I got to fully experience Road to Hana without feeling othered. Core memory unlocked! Thank you so much for the trip, Matt!

We did the HALFWAY TO HANA TOUR and it was amazing! It was super easy coordinating meeting times and they answered all of our questions. Even though we did the halfway to Hana tour, we were still able to see all of the major sights along the way. Our tour guide Eli was very knowledgeable and an excellent driver, and also very considerate, making adjustments as needed. Overall, would recommend the halfway to hana tour if you want to spend a couple of hours taking in the beautiful sights, eating the famous banana bread, and getting home before sundown.

We did a private road to Hana tour from our cruise ship. Chris was our guide and was waiting to meet us on the pier. He was a fantastic guide, knowledgable and passionate . I am so glad we did this as a private tour as the car was so comfortable and Chris knew exactly where to stop for the best pictures.

This tour was beyond outstanding and worth both the cost (which was super reasonable for what you got) and time. Matt was a fantastic guide, drove like a pro (which he is), so no worries whatsoever there, and he knew all sorts of hidden gem spots to take us to. Plus he is super knowledgable about all things Hawaiian, from culture to history to food to geology to flora/fauna to politics. If you want to know all about what you are looking at, beyond the fact that it's green and pretty, he's your best pick possible. I learned SO MUCH from him. Plus he is cool, funny and fun. Nice guy and outstanding life experience. Not to mention best prices I found and great value for the dollar. Really great value. It made our entire Hana adventure magical.

My wife and I had an amazing day with Matt. The private tour is definitely the way to go if you want to see all the hidden gems Maui has to offer. We would definitely do it again!

The most scenic road. It has gardens, cliffs, water falls, black sand beach and more. A day trip can be quite hectic. A beautiful, long, winding road leading to paradise. Only thing one needs to be careful is to turn back and return much before sunset. We made a mistake by leaving late. There are no lights on the road for a long distance and you have to manoeuvre the sharp curves and hair pin bends very carefully. In all, it was a very satisfying road trip.

This personalized trip was exactly as I dreamt! Chris showed us exactly what we wanted. I felt we were on a private island at certain points. He noticed weather coming in at the beginning, so made the conscious decision where to head first. He was smart, passionate, fun and the perfect host. He was a safe driver and considerate at all times. I was impressed how clean and new the vehicle was and all the extras they thought of.... towels, ice chest, phone charger, etc. Really first class!

My husband and I are SO VERY GRATEFUL that we booked a private tour with Awapuhi Adventures AND that the most wonderful Christopher was our guide. We stopped were we wanted and lingered as long or short as we wanted. Chris knows so much of the island history, about flowers and trees, and The Best Place to stop for banana bread and homemade chocolate with honey. He is a gentle soul….we loved spending time with him. At one stop, he played his Hand Pan. WOW. important note: he has the experience and skill to drive the Road to Hana and beyond. We would have been crying in a ditch. We continued all around the island and saw so many other sites. This trip was above and beyond…. Debra and Fred, Wisconsin

My husband and I signed up for the Private Road to Hana with Eli. Unlike small group tours to Hana, we were able to spend a decent amount of time outside the vehicle exploring beaches, waterfalls and hiking on the Pipiwai Trail known for its bamboo forest. Since Eli also works in the film industry as location scout, he knows many secret and beautiful places in and around Maui. He was able to take us to one lava cave not really known by others. He knows where to look for the most magnificent rainbow eucalyptus tree which is hidden from the main road. Eli is also a big supporter of local farmers, and so we stopped at this small fruit stand and introduced us to lilikoi. The farmer had cut the top off and we were able to sample the fruit right there and then. These experiences made this whole Road to Hana trip very special. Having the right private guide and being able to request to customize itineraries made a huge difference. Thank you, Awapuhi Adventures, for this amazing experience! Kathleen and Boris, Boston, MA

WOW! The short version: We had an AMAZING experience, our tour guide Chris was OUTSTANDING and I HIGHLY recommend booking this private tour with Awapuhi Adventures! This was a highlight of our week in Maui for sure!!! The details: Our week in Maui was packed full of experinces and fun and although the Road to Hana was something friends said was a "must do" for our first time in Maui, I hesitated because it sounded like a long day and making the drive on our own, or being a part of group tour on a set schedule for that length of time, didn't sound all that appealing. A few days before we were heading home, I kept getting the urge to look at the Road to Hana options again so I looked up tours, read all the reviews, etc. and came across several companies that offered private tours and decided that this was the way we wanted to experience the Road to Hana. After considering all the details in the reviews, we decided to book with Awapuhi Adventures on our last full day in Maui. BEST decision ever! Our guide Chris was AMAZING! He was friendly, knowledgeable and full of fun facts on pretty much everything along the way! He has driven this tour a LOT of times and we felt safe, considered and taken care of on every turn. It felt like we were hanging out with a long time friend! Chris paid attention to what we were interested in experiencing and customized our day accordingly. We especially enjoyed stopping at the local stands, interactions with the local people, hiking around the black and red sand beach areas, the amazing views of the water, a cave, turtles and scenery, lunch at Huli Huli's, coffee and ice cream stops, laughter and joy, and so much more. We learned a lot along the way from Chris about the history, culture, towns, plants, flowers we were seeing and enjoyed the entire day. Had we driven this route in our rental car, there is no way we would have known where to stop, where to pull over when there is only one lane for both directions of traffic or backing up on those curves if you need to, we would have missed so much and had a less than stellar experience I am sure. Had we taken a group tour, we would have saved a little money but had a much different experience as well. This trip is worth the splurge! It was the most scenic tour and being able to relax and take it all in without any stress, was priceless! It was myself, husband and our 19yr old son on the trip and all of us had a GREAT experience! My son even said that Chris really made the trip! All the information he shared kept us all interested and engaged during the 10 hours we shared together - Chris even played music for us which was an icredible treat and he helped us get some great family photos too! I am SO happy we didn't pass on this tour! While sharing details, I should also note that another great advantage is the vehicle that Awapuhi uses. They tour in a Honda Odyssey mini van which is incredibly comfortable and the key is whether seated in the front or back, your windows roll down, so everyone can see the sights! It seems to be the perfect size to navigate through the countryside and get in and out of easily and there is A/C so it's an ideal way to travel this road (I should note, I'm not normally a mini van person - but I'm telling you - it was a great way to go!)! As you can tell, I can't say enough about this tour, and company! If you are wanting to have an INCREDIBLE memory making experience - THIS is the tour and company to book with!!! Thank you for an adventure of a lifetime Chris and Awapuhi Adventures! We will never forget you and this trip, you left an imprint in our heart and memories! I would definately do this tour again when we return to Maui - I hope many others will too!!! Mahalo!
