Overview

The Hāna Highway is a 64.4-mile long stretch of spectacular views of rainforest, waterfalls, beaches and coastline. On the east after Kalepa Bridge, the highway continues to Kīpahulu on the Piilani Highway. Although Hāna is only about 52 miles from Kahului, it takes about 2.5 hours to drive when no stops are made as the highway is very winding and narrow and passes over 59 bridges, 46 of which are only one lane wide. There are approximately 620 curves along Route 360 from just east of Kahului to Hāna, virtually all of it through lush, tropical rainforest. Many of the concrete and steel bridges date back to 1910 and all but one are still in use. This full-day trip to the Hana coast has the best scenic drive along the shorelines of Maui.

  • This was the best part of our visit to Maui - Alex and Todd were awesome! Alex was extremely knowledgeable of the history and took us to many beautiful places. I enjoyed being in a small group. Truly a must!!

  • We enjoyed our tour and it is a long day. It was an interesting and informative adventure. The very southern portion of the road was very rough! Our tour guide was very friendly but in some cases he pointed out things as we were passing or had already passed the place or site. It would have been better if we stopped for pictures or at least were warned and slowed down as we passed. We made two bathroom stops where the one place was completed closed and the second one where two port-a-potties were being loaded on a truck and taken away, while the third remaining port-a-pottie was padlocked!

  • Boy, so much went wrong on this tour. 1 Tour started late 2 Because of driver being late/replaced they provided us with a free breakfast not part of the tour, our group got a very, very rude waitress 3 the Tour office over-booked so our group of 8 was to follow another bus. Only we were always ahead of the other bus. Our bus driver didn't know the stopping points of the tour so we spent the whole day on and off the bus and not where we were suppose to be. I asked for my money back upon return of this turn and would not recommend to anyone one else. They only gave me half of my fee back. LJ/KC

  • It was ok. Long day. We had a few issues w/ scheduling and buses. There are certain places you cannot stop because it's a tour bus e.g. Twin Falls, and the Bamboo Forest. Overall it's ok. The tour guide was nice - great when we stopped at the beaches. Sandwiches won't fill you up - bring your own snacks.

  • Alex our tour operator was the best host ever! The tour is long and exhausting but it is totally worth it. He adapts the tour according to its travelers and he is very nice. On our way back we had a tire ripped and he made all arrangements for us to be picked up by another operator. We liked it!!!

  • Amazing Trip with amazing Tour Guides. We had a wunderful day and made a few steps even outside of the regular schedule based on the Tour Guides special recommendiations.

  • Great trip with a wonderful driver, Brannon. We had plenty of time to view everything and were so glad we did it as a tour. Driving the road ourselves would have been hazardous.

  • Overall an excellent tour. We started to have our doubts at first. We were called and asked to switch days due to the fact that the tour was overbooked. Not sure why we were asked to change our plans but apparently no one else wanted to change their plans either. At first we didn't want to make any changes to our itinerary but after a second call we made the switch. We were picked up by our driver, whom didn't say one word to us as we got on the bus - I was starting to think that it was going to be a LONG day. As it turns out, he was just taking us to our actual tour bus and driver.

Our tour guide was Alex and he was outstanding talked a little too much for me but he was at least interesting. He was very well informed of the area and pointed out things to us that I didn't think we'd see. He offered to take pictures of us at any of our stops which was very helpful for us seeing how there were only 2 of us traveling together.

One particular stop along the route was worth every penny of the cost of the tour. We stopped at one beach where at least 20 sea turtles were on the beach, sun bathing. I have never seen anything like that before and doubt I ever will again.

It was, literally, a day long trip but the tour took us around the entire trip around the eastern portion of Maui. If I had to do it all over again, I would in a heart beat!

  • This was a fabulous tour. The driver navigated the roads with amazing skill and stopped frequently so we could enjoy the views as much as possible. My only complaint was that the day went too fast!!

  • We took the Road to Hana tour and it was fabulous! Our tour guide Brannon was so knowledgeable and really loved his job. We made many stops and learned so much about the Hawaiian people, culture, language, plants and animals. This is a tour that is a must do as you see so much of Maui. This tour goes around a lot of Maui and does not turn around and come back on the same route. We totally recommend this tour.
