Overview

Experience two things in one day while in Roatan! First, jump on a horse and ride through the lush jungles of this tropical island. Then, cool off in the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean and grab a bite to eat before getting back on your ship. Two great activities for the price of one!

Our guide Travis was fantastic. He took us anywhere we wanted to go and see. Gave us good ideas as well. Horseback riding was fun but was only about 20 minutes long and wasn’t really a “jungle” ride. It wound through some private property and we rode through a small section of the beach.

We were a little worried about booking a excursion not with NCL, but this experience was absolutely AMAZING!!! We stopped at 4 ports and because of Deri, this was our absolute favorite!! Deri made us feel welcomed and completely comfortable right away. We booked riding horses on the beach. Deri let us know he would take us where ever we wanted to go after our horseback ride. He suggested a few different places to visit. We decided to go see and hold monkeys and sloths, then to the beach. The beach was beautiful!! Deri was like our own personal bodyguard! If he thought we were hounded or bothered by vendors he would come over and ask them to leave. My family and I want to plan a week long trip to have Deri show us more of what this beautiful island has to offer.

Fun ride. Not quite what we expected for a “jungle” ride, but the staff was nice and the horses were well behaved. Our driver, Cameron, was a great guide and got us an inexpensive mangrove tour with the very enthusiastic Captain Alex which we enjoyed greatly and an amazing authentic island meal in Coxen Hole. If your expecting a jungle tour, you’ll be disappointed, but Cameron made up for it by being an unexpectantly excellent guide!

The most unusual experience on a horse I’ve ever had. Our guide walked in front of us, and the horses went at his walking speed. Stopped dead when he stopped walking. A too short a time walking in the ocean. However, our tour guide HARLEY did a fantastic job showing us the Island and taking us to FOSTERS BEACH. HAD TO SPENT AN ADDITIONAL $20.00 to get a lounger, but no towels. It was worth it. Great beach, friendly service. Lot’s of locals there. We enjoyed it.

This was the best excursion I’ve done in a long time. The island and beach were absolutely gorgeous. The ride getting there was a little sketchy but not quite as bad as Chicago or Detroit or anything. And hey, that’s half the fun, right? The tour guides were super friendly (tips). Very nice horses. They try to make sure you don’t take photos while on your horse (so they can sell you theirs) but I managed to sneak a few. And it was worth it - they’re the best photos I took the entire trip. There’s something magical about this island, I can’t wait to go back.

Deri was our tour guide and I highly recommend him! We were so nervous booking out of the cruise line but the reviews were wonderful so we felt good doing it. Although I was still super nervous once we arrived bc it was just me and my 7 yr old daughter bc my husband stayed behind. Deri calmed our nerves almost instantly and got us to our places on time. (As well as going above and beyond) He was very informative and hung out with my daughter during lunch taking the time to explain things of her interests to her. I would recommend him anytime and only regret is I wish we tipped him more. (And I truly mean that! He was amazing!)

We were disappointed in the horseback riding tour. Our guide we had was great he drove us around and told us about the area. He took us shopping in town. We didn't think that the horseback riding was long enough and we really didnt go into the rain forest at any time nor ride in the ocean but for pics

Firstly the positives. Despite us being some 3 days late in arriving due to our ship changing itinerary the local provider was still at the port to meet us and we did not need to make contact in advance to advice of our changed itinerary. The guy who picked us up was friendly and informative about Roatan and initially took us to a private beach as the horseback riding trip was not quite ready. Following the horse riding we were offered the opportunity to go back to the same private beach or to return to the beach being used by the cruise ships.

The main complaint is as regards the horseriding. Firstly there is no complaint regarding the horseriding guide as he was really helpful and it was clear that it was not his business providing the actual trip. The two key issues are as follows. There was no horseriding on the beach despite there being a clear photo on the Viator site which certainly protrays an image of horseriding on the beach. The horseriding which lasted about 40 minutes was in a jungle/wooded area which in places had steep slopes, was muddy and the horses felt as though they were slipping at times. But the greatest concern was as regards safety as we realised during the ride that no riding helmets had been provided.

In its current format I do not recommend this trip.
