Know More about this tour

Your Rome food walking tour takes you off the beaten tourist path to the historic Roman neighborhood called Testaccio, and ideal place to get a real taste of Rome. Savor its delicious food, soak in its vibrant culture, and meet the people who keep so many wonderful food traditions alive.

After meeting your expert guide, head off to discover the culinary gems around this must-see foodie district. As you walk, hear tales of Rome's lesser-known history from your guide, and see sights that many tourist maps miss, such as Rome's only pyramid and the Protestant Cemetery, where the poet John Keats is buried.

Visit the legendary Barberini pastry shop to try its mouth-watering Italian pastries that have been sold for over 50 years. Then, browse gourmet produce at a bustling local food market. While shopping, your guide will introduce you to some of the more colorful characters who work there. Make your own bruschetta and try real buffalo mozzarella at the famous Testaccio Market.

Continue your tour to one of the neighborhood's best kept secrets, Trappizino, to try suppli, every Roman's favorite fried rice ball. Sample some of Rome's best pasta along with wine at one of Rome's best restaurants for authentic Roman cuisine.

Further highlights include visits to the Giolitti Caffe and Gelateria, where artisan gelato has been made for over a century. Next stop is fantastic Volpetti cheese shop, home to 150 regional cheeses.

After eating your way around Rome's foodie heaven, you'll end up two blocks from where your tour began, approximately a 5-minute walk to all major public transport options.

  • This was a delightful experience. One of the highlights of my trip.

  • We liked the experience of walking in an older established community and being able to taste and learn about original recipes and eating habits of years ago. This truly gave us a flavor of Roman food. Our tour guide was excellent as well, very personable and knowledgeable.

  • We arrived early in the morning into Rome. It was a great way to kick off our 4 days. Walking around Testaccio and hearing about the history of the area and then getting to taste amazing food was fabulous! The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable! The store and restaurant owners couldn't have been more delightful. We would do it again in another part of the city.

  • Giuliana was fantastic! She was welcoming, attentive to everyone in the group, and not only taught us about local Roman cuisine, but also about local Roman culture in a way we have never seen.

  • This was a fantastic tour of Testaccio area, great guide, small friendly fun group of 6 including us and the food fabulous and the places we visited couldn't have been better. And we got to see a 2000 year old Pyramid in Rome! Who would have thought!

  • We were luck enough to have Jon Luca. There is no better food tour in all of Rome. Being escorted around Rome with Luca is like being with Mary Poppins. Everyone knows him and loves him.., so much good fun and we were treated like family everywhere we went. Luca is a great ambassador for Viator

  • I took this tour my first day in Rome. In fact it started just a few hours after I landed! I loved tasting all the food of Rome! You a history lesson! I wish I had purchased some salami!

  • The. Best. Tour. Of. Our. Entire. Trip!!
Highly highly recommended. Our tour guide Chiara was raised in Rome but she spoke perfect American English. She was the only guide of our entire trip that made our group feel like family - she reminded us that meals in Italy last 3 hours and they make you family. She truly kindled that! We introduced ourselves and she asked if anyone was celebrating anything. As this was my birthday, I was treated to happy birthday sung in Italian and an extra tart at one of the stops along the way. The walking was not too much, and the stops were frequent. The samples of food given at the restaurants/kiosks/stalls/shops were quite reasonable - more than a taste but not overfilling. We tried bruchetta and wine and rice balls and buffalo mozzarella and cured meats, etc. There was a sit-down portion towards the end with pasta and wines. We also learned practical tips, like how to store buffalo mozzarella and, even more importantly, how to spot authentic gelato not the stuff that comes from a mix. The neighborhood was great to learn about, the guide was outstanding, the food was tasty, and I couldn't have been happier to spend this time with Eating Italy. Highly recommended!!

  • Very fun tour with lots of delicious stops as well as a stop to the huge food market and visits to some interesting historical sites. After eating your way across town you will end up at a very cool restaurant for three more types of pasta and wine. Then top it off with excellent gelato! Our guide was very fun and very knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend it.

  • Had an amazing time! Our guide was passionate and informative. Every food stop on the tour was delicious and you'll get bonus historical stops too. I'd suggest this even if you've been to Rome a few times already.
