Know More about this tour

Your Rome food walking tour takes you off the beaten tourist path to the historic Roman neighborhood called Testaccio, and ideal place to get a real taste of Rome. Savor its delicious food, soak in its vibrant culture, and meet the people who keep so many wonderful food traditions alive.

After meeting your expert guide, head off to discover the culinary gems around this must-see foodie district. As you walk, hear tales of Rome's lesser-known history from your guide, and see sights that many tourist maps miss, such as Rome's only pyramid and the Protestant Cemetery, where the poet John Keats is buried.

Visit the legendary Barberini pastry shop to try its mouth-watering Italian pastries that have been sold for over 50 years. Then, browse gourmet produce at a bustling local food market. While shopping, your guide will introduce you to some of the more colorful characters who work there. Make your own bruschetta and try real buffalo mozzarella at the famous Testaccio Market.

Continue your tour to one of the neighborhood's best kept secrets, Trappizino, to try suppli, every Roman's favorite fried rice ball. Sample some of Rome's best pasta along with wine at one of Rome's best restaurants for authentic Roman cuisine.

Further highlights include visits to the Giolitti Caffe and Gelateria, where artisan gelato has been made for over a century. Next stop is fantastic Volpetti cheese shop, home to 150 regional cheeses.

After eating your way around Rome's foodie heaven, you'll end up two blocks from where your tour began, approximately a 5-minute walk to all major public transport options.

  • Was a terrific tour and a great way to experience authentic Italian cuisine. Tour guide was great and seemed to enjoy her job. She certainly new her food and the places to go. Highly recommend.

  • A great way to see some less touristic Rome, sample plenty of awesome food. This is the perfect tour to understand the culture of Rome through food and get some great tips and insights into history. For 4 hours we meandered comfortably through the Testaccio area which was once the port and warehouse area of Rome. Can 100 recommend this tour to fellow travellers

  • Francesco was a great guide--informative, fun loving and made the day a real pleasure. Will definitely refer people in the future!

  • Great tour in a district we never thought of visiting. A lot of walking but a lot of food as well.

  • This was a wonderful way to tour Testaccio and sample great foods all at the same time. Julianna was our guide, who knew the area intimately and was greeted warmly by the proprietors at each stop, who treated us to local specialties at each stop. Food tours are the way to go, and this one is strongly recommended.

  • One of the highlights of my recent trip to Rome. We loved how the neighborhood the food tour is in, Testaccio, is quiet and away from all business and craziness of Rome. Emma, our tour guide, was the best! She was so knowledgeable and passionate about all things Rome, especially the cuisine. Every stop on the tour was our favorite, but if we had to pick I think the bruschetta/mozz and pastas would top the list. While eating all the amazing food, you also learn some fun historical facts about Rome and visit some of the lesser popular historical sites. We were only in Rome for 2 days, but I wished I did this as soon as we got there as we would have eaten ALL meals in Testaccio . This is a must do in Rome! Come hungry!

  • This tour was amazing!

  • Our food walk took us to Testaccio,an area of Rome we had never been to, but found,to our delight that it is middle class, relatively free of tourists, with the delicious real Italian food we had hoped to find. Our guide,Emma, was delightful, knowledgeable, and treated us to nine different types of Italian cuisine. We wished we had go on her tour the first day of our arrival so we would have been better informed about our choices the remainder of our week in Rome. We were so full of wonderful food that we had just melon and prosciutto for dinner

  • This was an excellent trip. Emma was the leader and she did a great job. Food was excellent and very varied. Would definitely recommend this Tour.

  • An excellent tour and a great day out.
