Explore the rich history of Rome during this full-day private excursion departing from Civitavecchia port at 7:30am. Your English-speaking driver will introduce you to The eternal city as you make the 90-minute drive from the port to the historical city center. Your day can be customized according to your interests, and you can upgrade for skip-the-line tickets for monuments to be purchased in advance. A possible itinerary is to first see the Colosseum from outside, spending about 20 minutes strolling around its square and admiring the Arches of Constantine and Titus, or, you can opt to go inside the ancient amphitheater, exploring its passageways. You can next visit Circus maximus, and imagine the chariot races that used to take place there, while also catching a view of one of the citys seven significant hills, Palatine. You wont want to miss the Roman forum, the trade, financial, and religious heart of the ancient civilization. Drive by or visit the Victor Emmanuel Monument and the balcony made famous by Mussolini, and gaze at the Pantheon and the ancient Roman temples oculus. There will be time to linger and people watch at the Trevi fountain and the Spanish steps, and enjoy a leisurely lunch on your own at a local restaurant. After lunch, you can visit Piazza navona, or Campo de' fiori, for an incredible view of the city. Or, travel along Appian Way, believed to be one of the first roads ever built, and explore the Catacombs ancient burial site. You can also visit St. Peters Square for photos and to catch a glimpse of the Vatican before departing Central Rome at about 3:30pm for the one hour journey back to the port to meet your ship.

Christano was our driver and did an excellent job navigating the narrow traffic laden streets of Rome. We were able to see all of the “must see” sites and even added several more stops which enhanced our experience. If you have ever considered a private tour, I would say this company is well worth the cost. Would highly recommend.

Most amazing experience and private tour I have ever taken! Johnnie met us right off the ship and was immediately funny and personable. The drive into Rome, Johnnie entertained us with historical facts and stories that were so interesting. We were able to see so much with our driver dropping us off at each site, avoiding the crowds and picking us up right after. He took us to out of the way restaurants allowing us to enjoy a peaceful lunch away from the throngs of other tourists. He was absolutely perfect - helpful, accommodating and so knowledgeable. Then he took us to meet our private guide for the Vatican and Sistine Chapel. Maria whisked us right through the hoards of people and gave us a 2 1/2 hour tour of the Vatican. She had so much knowledge and was able to expertly guide us through the museums. This trip was the trip of a lifetime and our two guides had such a tremendous impact on making it absolutely worthwhile, perfect and informative. We plan to go back for a longer visit and hire the same guides to see the rest of the city. They were both outstanding and the company was fabulous. Can't wait to see them again. USE THIS COMPANY- you will not regret it.

My biggest concern when planning this trip was whether or not we would have enough time to see these beautiful historical places and appreciate them in all their glory. Well I can honestly say that thanks to Rome Private Excursions we did just that. Our tour guide was amazing and so knowledgeable (It’s no wonder they call him The Professor). He would make frequent stops from great lookout points to tell us about the rich history of the places we were about to visit and then we were off on foot to explore. We enjoyed spotting the things he spoke to us about like the Roman numerals marking the “assigned” seats at the colosseum, a “season pass system” (if you will) way ahead of it’s time. He even recommended a great spot for lunch where we had some fresh oven baked pizza, pasta and burrata. Looking back, Rome is one of the places where I really feel like we got the most out of our time and we are grateful towards Luca and his team for making this possible.

We took a port pick up and essential tour of Rome with Chris and then a half day walking tour of the Vatican with Maria. Both were excellent tour guides and did a great job. Our only complaint would be that the restaurant that the first guide took us to (something named restaurant of the Popes?) took us to wasn’t one of our favorites of what we eat in 5 days in Rome and we wonder if he received a kickback for bringing us. The actual tours were amazing!

Being a travel agent I look for the best quality of service for my clients. I cannot say enough about this company! The vans were clean and sanitized, drivers were knowledgeable and explained the history for every site we stopped at or drove past. Need an interpreter? No problem! These drivers did that too! They stopped at any time to accommodate all of our needs. At the end of our journey they were more then our drivers they are now our friends!

We booked a private 1-day tour during our cruise. I would rate RPE a 6 on a scale of 1-5 where 5 is excellent! We had a wonderful day with Jon our guide. I wish we had another week in Rome, but he gave us such a great overview and all the arrangements were perfect. We loved our tour of the Vatican and feel like our driver gave us a lot to see in our limited time. Best of all was that he shared insights, lots of history, and stories that brought to life the things we saw. It was easy to make arrangements in advance and Jon picked us up at Civitavecchia Port so we made the most of our one day in Rome. I will definitely use RPE again whenever our travels bring us back to Rome!

We had a wonderful day with Max, our driver/guide. He was prompt to collect our family of 5 and took us to all the sights of Rome including a private Vatican tour. Great knowledge of the history of Rome and Italy combined with a good sense of humor made Max the ideal tour guide. Having spent many years in the U.S., Max was very knowledgeable on U.S. culture and Italian culture. He made it interesting for 3 college age boys, too. Expensive, but worth it.

We booked this tour at the last minute. We docked at the Civitavecchia port, we wanted a tour of Rome, but had to get our luggage to our hotel - then to Rome to tour? Sounded impossible - but Viator has the perfect solution - enter Manny! Manny picked us up in a roomy Mercedes mini van promptly are 8:00 - and we were off. He took us to everything you want to see in a day and more ! A beautiful park with great views of the Tibor river from an 800 year old church, a pyramid (yes! There is a pyramid complete with a sarcophagus in Rome!) we walked the grounds of the Coliseum (we did not brave the entrance lines) had a fantastic lunch in a busy plaza - (wonderful pizza and wine) plazas, fountains, the church is Peter in Chains, Mussolini’s residence and the balcony he gave speeches from - a castle, Spanish Steps, the Forum, Tavoli Fountain, Pantheon, Vatican (walked around only - we did not go in and tour it), we saw MichaelAngelos home, and so much more! Manny was AMAZING! We told him show us Rome in a day and he did it! He knows Rome! He told us so much history behind each stop and I learned so much more than I ever could have on my own!! We highly recommend Manny and Viator. I had hesitation on the cost - but it was worth every euro!!!
