Know More about this tour

After morning pickup from your Rotorua hotel, travel about 25 minutes in a comfortable minivan to Wai-o-tapu thermal wonderland, taking in the sight of farmland and forests as you drive.

Upon arrival at Wai-O-Tapu, your experienced guide leads you along well-marked paths to reach a series of brilliantly colored natural pools of steaming hot water that bubble with geothermal activity. Hear a morning presentation about the Lady knox geyser and watch the daily eruption that shoots a fountain of water high into the air.

Your guide explains how the Tarawera Volcano eruption in 1866 formed the park's natural hot springs that glow in bright yellow, orange and turquoise colors. Your guide also points out examples of how the native bush regenerated after the eruption. As you take in bubbling mud pools, steaming lakes and more, youll understand why Wai-O-Tapu is considered one of the worlds most surreal places.

Expect a leisurely walk along wide trails with plenty of time for photo ops and informative commentary from your guide. Feel free to ask any questions that you may have as you admire the otherworldly beauty of Wai-O-Tapu.

See even more geothermal spots during a short drive through the Waimangu volcanic valley. Your guide explains the ways that local Maori people have used the sites as well as how New Zealands volcanic processes work.

At the end of your 4-hour tour, your guide returns you to your Rotorau hotel.

Highly recommend this adventure! Two great stops in the Thermal Valley Rotorua with bubbling mud pools and amazing geysers!

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and provided us with a great introduction to the thermal features around Rotorua. There is so much to see, it was nice to have a guide to take us to the highlights and point out things we generally wouldn’t have noticed or seen. The only trouble we had was contacting Elite Adventures prior to the trip - we tried a couple different emails, but ended up calling them once in country to confirm our pickup. Pickup was right on time, and the coach was comfortable, with a nice size group of about 12.

This is one of the best tours we have been on. The geo thermals were very interesting and spectacular. We had the most informative and obliging tour guide Clive. Highly recommend it.

We saw some amazing sights at Wai-o-tapi and Waimangu. We also enjoyed the walks and introduction to native plants by our guide.

Trent was a wonderful guide who showed us New Zealand's natural beauty. He's extremely knowledgeable and personable - highly recommend!

Normally I prefer to visit places on my own but this tour was excellent. Small groups (4 people including myself in my case) make it a more personal experience and all of the locations were unforgettable. The guide shared the history of the place with us (which was really fascinating!) as well as some interesting facts about native fauna and flora. The pacing was very nice and relaxing, I didn't feel like we had to rush from one point to another to stay on schedule. Overall it was a lovely your!

  • 05-Apr-2019

I enjoyed my morning. Pick up from the motel, followed by a visit to the mud pools and 2 different geological parks...Kay was brilliant, walking briskly so we could make it in time to see the lady Knox geyser at 10 15! She made it so interesting. Thank you

Great morning spent on this trip! Brian our guide was excellent, this was so much better than we expected, you cannot go to Rotorua and not do this.

Really interesting small group means easy to interact with guide. Tour guide very good but main thing is you can't come here and not see the amazing thermal activity on show. Another amazing world to see.
