Know More about this tour

Your tour starts in New Zealands largest city. As we drive out of the city your guide will not only set the scene for your adventure today but also point out and guide you past some of the citys top highlights.
Exiting Auckland we travel south through the stunning Waikato countryside, the most extensive farming area in the world, encountering beautiful scenery, mighty rivers, great photo opportunities, impressive mountains and several farm animals along the way. During our adventure in the Waikato we will also stop for a quick coffee break at a special location.
Continuing our journey to Rotorua we pass through Tirau, famously dubbed the 'Corrugated Iron Capital of the World' because of the many unique corrugated iron sculptures and buildings. This town never fails to get a look and a laugh and our guides will point out all the main highlights on the way through.
Arriving at our feature destination you will experience a fully guided tour of Wai-O-Tapu Geothermal Wonderland. Considered one of the most surreal places on earth, here you will see the famous Champagne Lake, Devil's Bath, local mud-pools, geothermal craters and other geothermal wonders. The colours and activity will take your breath away.
To finish off our Rotorua experience we do a guided driving tour seeing the most famous sites in Rotorua city including: Lake Rotorua, Rotorua Museum, Government Gardens, Whangapipiro (Rachel Spring) & the Blue Baths. If there is time, we may even visit a special souvenir shop for some discounted shopping and to try Manuka Honey.
Sadly we must start to head north again but your day is not over with a fully guided return trip to Auckland with secret stops along the way.

We had a great time on this trip! Rotorua is a beautiful town with lots of cafe and restaurants. The geothermal pools there and in Wai-O-Tapu were also stunning. Our tour guide Grant was absolutely lovely and very knowledgeable about the area and New Zealand in general.

The trip arrangement with tour guide is normal, there are two entrances at Grand Millennium Auckland, and the tour company did not aware this, thus the pick up was delayed. Besides, we have 16 parties for the tour and the tour company only arranged a small car with maximum capacity to 17 persons. Under such circumstances, it is too crowded and the travel time for the tour with round trip was 6 hours. And as we are the last pick up point, we need to sit in the last row and supposed that it is not a reserved and fixed seats. And other participants did not want to swap a seat and exchange a seat for us when return. It is unpair and the guys are impolite. My suggestion that the tour company should arrange the seats with the participants so that they can change the seats alternatively.

Buyer beware about this company's tours. On my tour i was combined with people from probably 2-3 other tours to increase efficiency. I signed up for WaiOTapo only from AKL, and was likely combined with others who signed up for Rotorua highlights or TePuia etc. The driver did a great job a keeping tabs/timeline so kudos to him. Also beware that for now (may change later) WaiOTapo is ONLY open on certain days...but the tour is offered on other days too (my goal was to see WaiOTapo) so plan ahead (a bit of false advertising in my mind to offer a tour to a place that you know is closed!) Otherwise the tour was smooth, albeit confusing. No time allowed for lunch so bring snacks and ask for time to eat while driver is dropping other people off etc. I would have personally loved more time at WaiOTapo since it was my goal but could not due to having to accomodate the others who were there to see other sights.

A different and pleasant place. Especially Wai O Tapu. I felt the real volcano tour there. Incredible sulfur smell and warmth.

  • 11-Mar-2023

I went with my friend, recommend bringing snacks and signing up for more than one activity. The tour guide was great.

Champagne Pool really is that wonderful to see with your own eyes! I could spontaneously add on Te Puia to the trip to see the cultural maori thing (not everyone had exactly the same activities) We were a cool group, which made the day even more amazing!

I did the Wai-O-Tapu tour in December and the Geothermal site was amazing. The tour guides provided not only good information but a fun experience along the drive.

  • 15-Nov-2022

First of all, Simon, our tour guide was fantastic! However, I got an email from the company the day before that Wai-O-Tapu was currently closed Tue-Fri (my trip was on Tue) and was offered to go to Te Puia instead. Lovely place but not what I had travelled half across the world for to see. Whilst I do understand that there is currently a shortage of staff which is obviously not Cheeky Kiwi's fault, it's a shame that they didn't contact me a day earlier to offer me to go on Mon. A shame as I'll now never be able to see what for me had been the most important thing on North Island.
